- How Easy are Circuit Tracks MIDI Tracks to Use?
Today we're going to find out how easy the Circuit Tracks MIDI Tracks are to use. Normally, I'd figure everything out beforehand and then present the information in (what I hope is) an easy to understand and follow video. Today, I decided to have you all join me in the experimentation process! Enjoy the video :)

As both a Microfreak and Tracks owner: Thank you for making this video.
They make a great pair for sure, thanks for watching!
@@FreeBeat I think this is the direction I'm going...
Same here !!!! I bought tracks to give my Korg Monologue synth more Dawless sound options …..it has opened up a new world to sounds and effects…. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS ! Being silly newbie I am, I thought I needed to by more hardware but the Circuit changed everything
Man this is a cool setup. I figured the tracks would make a great central unit for a hardware setup and not a lot of RUclipsrs have shown the whole process so thanks for sharing this!
Thanks so much for watching!
I'm also glad to see you're digging into the Circuit Tracks and giving it a fair shake. As an "olde phart," I'm having a hard time grasping the workflow of products like the Circuits (I, too, tend to think more linearly), and it's really interesting and educational for me to see you work your way through getting a handle on the workflow. More "lightbulbs" have lit up for me watching the five videos you've made about the Tracks you've made than from watching countless others. Keep on groovin'!
It definitely requires a pretty major mindset adjustment to give all of your different tracks their own patterns. I certainly don't prefer it, although I can completely understand why so many folks love it. Thanks for watching!
Just one note, You could have shown Midi out of Microfreak, to Midi In to Tracks, So that you may play the synth keys while recording to cirrcuit tracks
Hey hey. I’m looking to buy a micro freak to make this exact same setup.
So in order to play from the micro freak and not the circuit tracks like he did, would I need another midi connection yes? (Micro freak midi out to circuit tracks midi in) So that the data from the micro freak goes to the circuit tracks. Is that correct or am I way off 😅?
@@djntu2964 hey man, did you find the answer for this issue? I just bought a Microfreak and I have the same doubt. If you managed to figure it out, could you please shine a light on me?
I tried this and record on CT while playing Microfreak, CT got midi respond and put notes on sequence but doesnt give any sound from Microfreak. What am i missing i couldnt understand
this comment is the only thing I wanted for this video, thanks man.
Use a midi to audio adapter to a midi cable connecting the two, with the audio jack from the midi adapter plugged in to the microfreaks audio jack port. I hope that helps
thank you so much for clarifying that the microfreak came with MIDI adapter, i didn't want to have to buy a whole new cable that wouldn't even connect with many other devices
Absolutely!
Cool. I saw that Novation components has a downloadable MicroFreak MIDI template for the knobs. May be worthwhile checking that out. I got my MF a few weeks ago, and my CT last week :-)
Yeah I'll be grabbing that pretty soon haha. Thanks!
Glad you are warming up to the Novation Tracks nice vid Free Beat🤙
Thank you!
amazing equipment CT i use it w minilogue xd and the looper boss rc nice video
I have developed a serious crush on the Microfreak recently and now I know I can hook her up to circuit tracks without having to use the software, I think I’m gonna have to take the next step 😍😂
Ooo...that bass patch is sounding pretty sick. Nicely done!
Thanks, it's one of my favorites so far.
Id love to see a jam with the Circuit, and a guitarist or bassist or something running into the circuit tracks.
Maybe I'll grab the bass and make it happen!
3:14 OMG when the delay kicked in UWU
Seems pretty easy… however, I’ve decided the CT isn’t for me. Gonna save up and get an mpc one probably at this point, who knows. I have an iPad and honestly don’t need a hardware standalone, but I miss knobs, buttons, pads and what not hahah.
This video is great, really dope groove and real clear. Seems easy enough. Hope you fall in love with the CT. Thanks for such a great channel,
Are there no options to connect midi controllers to the Ipad ? Like a APC 40mk2 or something ?
@@Sadiquecat yes, it‘s possible and easy to do… but not the same in my meaning.
@@Sadiquecat tons of options, if it’s class compliant more than likely it can pair with the iPad, with a camera adaption connection kit, and maybe a usb hub.
Thanks so much! The MPC one is an absolute powerhouse and is really all you need to make incredible music, I hope you are able to get one soon!
I know you said you were working on the lighting, but that main source right on the Tracks makes it pretty much impossible to see the pads. Anyway, if you havent found out since filming, there is a Microfreak template for the midi controls right on Nov. Components!
Great video! What would say about the Circuit Rhythm and the UNO Synth Pro Desktop or volka FM combo? For jamming and improv gigs mostly ....
Love them both 💕
They're both great pieces of gear!
I't be better if you got to choose if u want to use them as midi tracks or synth tracks or drum tracks being able to assign them would be better
Crazy! I couldn't remember all of that. Crazy...
dumb question: is it possible to connect a launchkey mini (connected to fl studio as midi controller) and connect it to the circuit tracks and use it as a synth? i know it would be a dawless setup but i don't own any synth's and i've been trying to make use of my launchkey mini that way. i appreciate any feeback!
Should be possible!
Hello. Can I assign a hardware synthesizer to the synth1 and synth2 channels?
I have connected the microfreak to the midi 1 of the circuit and I want to know how I can connect the Fl studio in the midi 2 to be able to sequence my vst's in the circuit how can I do it? Help please
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with how FL studio works, but I believe you need to set up the circuit as midi input in FL studio, then route your computer audio into the second audio in jack on the circuit.
Cool.
I want to hook up my NTS-1 to the Micro, and use its effects instead of the effects on the CT, and still use the Midi function… How?
Just run the MIDI the same way I did in this video, but run the audio out of the Microfreak into the NTS-1, then the audio out of the NTS-1 into the CT!
@@FreeBeat Thanks man!
How do you reverse it? Have an external synth dictate the tempo on the Novation? My Novation works amazing as the brain, but I cannot figure out how to get the midi IN to recieve an external clock.
hey, i cabled like you showed easy, and i tried every midi channel, but still cant play tracks with the mikrofreak.
The setup in this video was to play the micro freak with the circuit, not the other way around haha.
Can I record the pattern on the circuit tracks playing from the microfreak?
Yes you can, but only as midi data. The circuit tracks cannot record any audio directly.
I've tried both MIDI 1 and MIDI 2 tracks sending notes on MIDI channel 3 & 4. On both I can play the external synth just fine by just playing the pads, but can not sequence. The sequence is silent. I tried various methods of entering the sequence (recording live or entering manually note by note) - silence. I can get the external synth to play a sequence on Synth 1 or Synth 2 tracks by switching MIDI out channel to 1 or 2 just fine, but not on the dedicated MIDI tracks. Tried everything: Sending MIDI through MIDI out, Sending MIDI through a USB audio interface, sending MIDI through USB. Not getting anything but silence when playing sequence on MIDI channels 3 or 4.
Hey my man did you manage to fix this issue?
@@victorgondim8610 Unfortunately, no, gave up and am sequencing the external synths on their own, sending clock over midi does work.
@@amconsole Oh man tha sucks, I managed to send signals to CT and record it on MIDI 3 - But I had to add another MIDI cable from MF midi Out to CT MIDI In - then it worked - but the sequence reccord is a bit weird. Idk what's going on but the record comes in a different Octave and not quite synch with CT tempo. I need more time to figure it out :)
Hello, i just connected my CT and MF together perfectly but i noticed that MF’s volume is lower compared to internal synths of CT, any solution or suggestions ? Btw preset volume is 12.
You forget to mention that external keyboard playing and routing it to external midi gear is NOT possible!
Sorry for my ignorance, but does this setup work without any computer? That is, the Circuit tracks are replacing the software (DAW) and this is how the synthesizer works? Thank you!
Yep this is completely standalone. The circuit tracks even comes with a builtin battery so you can produce stuff with it basically anywhere
I'm getting no transmit using jdxi could anyone help. Do I have to do a setting on circuit tracks
Now do the second midi 2 channel as I can’t get it to full control record & play back the midi 2 channel
Unfortunately I don't have the Circuit Tracks anymore :(
You need to tell the MIDI THRU to act as a MIDI 2 OUT. To do this you hold Shift while powering on the Circuit Tracks to get into Advanced Setup View.
Press the duplicate button and it will turn green. Now the MIDI THRU will act as MIDI 2 OUT.
you are the best!
No you are!
Unfortunately the most important issue hasn’t been discussed: how to send bank/program changes to external Midi gear.
Novation introduced two Midi tracks and forgot to implement a BC/PC option for them. Jeeze! 🙄
Not your fault man. Excellent tutorial for beginners who are struggling with the setup of external Midi gear.
Ouch, I admittedly didn't even think of that being an issue, but that seems like a pretty likely feature to be added in the future. Thanks for watching!
My only interest in the the novation was wondering if it took PC messages to along with those midi tracks :(
Sorry for my ignorance, but does this setup work without any computer? That is, the Circuit tracks are replacing the software (DAW) and this is how the synthesizer works? Thank you!
Anybody else hears the Doors influence ?
OMG I am seriously going to tear my face OFF and SMASH my Circuit Track. It just keeps playing the external synth sounds on everything. Every drum track and synth 1 and 2 have the sound of the external synth playing aswell. Like I did everything this guy did so why won't it work the same way? This is why I hate technology sometimes!
So, pretty easy, as long as you already know how to use it, lol.
