Short answer: Yes but you probably shouldn't.
Well, if by probably you mean exactly what Austin said, then no, you shouldn't buy one just for gaming. I happen to spend almost all my time developing stuff, and it's nice knowing the stuff I make is Windows, Mac, and Linux compatible from the get-go, so I just use Mac. Then, every once in a while, I'll play some random games and stuff for a while, and so far, the only game that really didn't play well at all(in Bootcamp) was No Man's Sky, which I didn't care for anyway.

Well what I mean is that Macs should primarily be utilized for productivity purposes like video editing, sound editing, school work, watching movies etc. And yes if you want, you can do some light gaming on the side.
But you should never purchase a Macbook for the sole purpose of gaming.

Just acquired the 2017 MacBook Pro 13 i5 intel iris plus 640 and it runs grand theft auto 5 much better than my just as expensive asus core i7 NVIDIA 1080 specifically meant for gaming I think it’s the optimization or something cause it’s ridiculous how much faster my Mac is

the most i run on a mac is some of the Total War games, i have console for the more mainstream games.

@@niamhg2354 I play on a Mac, what cod games do you want to play? If it’s an older cod like black ops 1 you should be able to on lower settings (if that game is even available on a Mac) but newer cods probably not. I only play league of legends so take my advise with a grain of salt

3 Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
4 Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.

I have a Mac from 2015, and games work fine. Sure, if you want to play heavier games, they won't be great, but they're still playable. Lighter stuff like Civ 6 or CSGO work perfectly.

CloudBurzt Fallout 4 actually isn't that heavy, 7 year old gpus like the 5870 paired with a sandy bridge i5 can run the game at low 1080p.
I have the 15" with maxed out everything except for storage, and It gets crazy loud. Can't turbo past 2.9 for an extended period of time, but that makes sense for such a thin laptop. Just wish it had better battery life.

I literally do anything and everything in my MacBook Pro 15inch maxed out. Editing, gaming, school work... it’s never had to load in the 1 1/2 years I used it for.
My friend installed Windows 10 on his 2012 Macbook Pro with Intel HD 4000 graphics. He uses it to play Overwatch. At absolute lowest settings he can actually get a 30+ FPS average so its actually playable, and he is actually really good at the game.
You can game on anything. Even a raspberry pi. Whether or not you can play modern AAA titles is another thing.
So yes, you can game on a Mac. Should you buy a Mac just for gaming? No.
But if you're a student, and you can only buy 1 computer. Then a Mac is your best option. Gaming laptops are bad for school. Windows laptops are subpar work machines compared to Macbooks.
Though, if you can afford a Mac, and you're a serious gamer, a PC for $500 would be better, and then get a decent Windows laptop for $500-600, that has good battery life, trackpad, keyboard, and is light. Or get a second hand/older generation Macbook air or something.

The only thing I dislike about Austin's judgment on gaming on a mac is that he points out the most Nonessential and unnecessary problems that are so little that you don't even recognize anything wrong but again he still recognizes it and reports it to us even if it's not even a major problem. But I get your supposed to showcase the pros and cons but if the cons are very little i don't think it matters especially to the kids who just wanna play games on their mac especially if its not a full lag or glitch.
I played Mass Effect 3 on a boot camped late 2011 15' MacBook Pro with 2.4 GHz i7, 8GB 1600 DDR3, and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1GB. It wasn't the greatest experience but it worked. I got the Mac from school as part of a package.
Of course you can game on the newest Mac , sure it's totally NOT made for it , but still , it's still an option!

The Raspberry PI runs a C++ version of Minecraft, not the full blown Java version. Not only that, the PI's version, one of the oldest version of pocket edition, is set to minimum settings and still has awful frame drops

I've had a Macbook pro 13' for 7 years.. it still works and can play some games on it. I get normal 20-30fps and on bad days 10-15.
I build my first PC 3 days ago and I can say I'm never going back to mac again.
I used to be a purely console gamer. Until I had a powerful enough laptop to play games with. My MacBook was the first laptop that allowed me to play most modern games at moderate settings. From there I was hooked. Now I have custom watercooled PC with a 1080ti. MacBooks are brilliant at playing games but it's not a bad device to play it on if you have nothing else.

Not many people know this but geforce experience is a beta software that allows mac gamers to play almost any PC game on Mac via emulation
If you want to use Mac OS and be able to game, hackintosh. Seriously, Apple doesn't sell much gaming capable hardware and what it does you will be paying huge amounts for. If, for instance you need Mac OS for work and want to game on the same system just get a system with a configuration that can take Mac OS, then duel boot with Windows to get the best of both worlds.

yes. it can. at ultra settings and motion blur, it can run like 0fps and the mac crashes and explodes.

I'm using a macbook pro (2020, 13-inch, 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5), and YES you can game on it but it shouldn't be intended as a main gaming device. I play League of Legends and Cs:Go, it runs very good for a mac in just the right graphics. The fps is fine and good enough for a smooth gameplay for both games.

Actually seeing as I am a guy who works in IT builds computers and works on mac. Some mac ports are absolute shit so running them in Bootcamp will be a better and faster option.

I mainly use my mac for music and photoshop but I have managed to download overwatch, pubg, wot, skyrim, a bunch of good shooters and fortnite. They all run at a solid 60-120fps and the graphics are so good :0

I had a PC but going to a mac I really don't want to go back. After looking at my Mac screen for a really long time, I went back to my old computer and it looks primative AF. And it is so buttery smooth. Mincraft, Portal, Shovel Knight. I just wish Shantae was available :(
Well I got a Maxed Out macbook pro with radeon pro 560 from the apple shop as my uncle works there and I was doing work experience so I got a reward of my liking.
Yeah! gaming on the 5th gen Radeon Pro 560 is differently game able on all sorts of levels! I just have a 1TB ssd in the mac and load windows and mac OS half of 1tb and it's great. Windows for gaming, MacOS for editing (I just like editing in MacOS). Great machine.
I think the reason why not many people like macs (for gaming) is the fact that
It's expensive
Runs MacOS ( They don't know that you can bootcamp windows 10 or lower)
And others bag macs out so they do too.
If it wasn't that expensive and it was just your typical gaming laptop price then people would go ahead and buy a mac for gaming of how premium it is.

I primarily game on my Macbook Air and it's good enough if you set to 720p and turn off anti-aliasing. I haven't tried newer games but all games I own in Steam works fine in med-high details. Don't run them on OSX. Steam allows you to install and play the game you purchased on both OSX and Windows if they exist on both OS and I tried Tomb Raider using the same settings and the framerate is like 10-15 higher on the Windows 10 version (bootcamp).
Misleading title. That's a 2016 MBP. 2017 ones have 7th gen i7 and Radeon Pro 560.
