Ghost Love Score, Poet and the pendulum, and the Greatest show on earth are rightly held in high esteem by Nightwish fans. But Dead boys poem is the one for me.

Nightwish is not a collection of songs...it's a story, a journey. Skipping Dead Boys Poem is like skipping the 2nd chapter of a book. Sure the book can still be entertaining, but thestory makes no real sense anymore.
Dead Boys Poem is written just after the band's popularity exploded. At age 19 Tuomas was just a regular Finnish teenager. Just 3 years later he is the mastermind of the biggest export product of Finland. Being the writer of lyrics and music, the bandleader and the pivot point of the Nightwish empire with millions of dollars turnover employing hundreds of people......that weighed heavy on Tuomas. He feels he is forced to make very adult decisions, robbing him of the last remainder of his childhood (hence the "dead boy"). He feels he can't complain about it, because his life turned out exactly as he wished: the band (the child) is conquering the world with perfect concerts and performing their excellent music. But it is also a heavy cross to bear and he does worry because now that he famous, how will he ever find true love? And without knowing true love , how can he ever truely write music about love?!?
He is kind of in Limbo about himself. Not ready to be Tuomas Metal-Mozart, but no longer young-Tuomas either. The song contains everything he wanted to tell the world if he were to die at that age.

I agree, just something about the way Floor sings that song that I love. Tampere is my favorite too, but Wembley is really good as well.

I really don't think any other Nightwish song showcases Floor's incredible dynamic and emotional range so beautifully. This song is truly majestic.
Dead Boy's Poem should be standard on their setlist, so good is it. I think it's one of their greatest songs and Floor is amazing on this (okay she's amazing on every song, but you get my point).

Tuomas would be asked in the interview how Floor is with Nightwish and how she sings the songs. Answer: complete devotion
NIghtwish ballads and slow numbers are just as good as thier heavier numbers, often even better. They are masters at creating a soundscape, with the ultimate sound being their telltale wall of sound
Emma "I'm sorry guys, I have goosebumps ..." No, ma'am, no need to apologize for a Floorgasm, we all had one too. This could be called Tuomas' Requiem, it comes straight from his soul. Wait until you hear one that Tuomas has composed with Floor as the vocalist in his mind's eye. Everything you've heard was written for the prior vocalists to voice, Floor made them all her own. Most singers sing what they can, Floor sings anything, any genre she wants.
Tuomas, the keyboardist/composer/songwriter/founder, said this is a very personal song, things he would love to tell the world before he dies. Floor is just incredible, she becomes the song, story and music. She doesn't just feel it deeply, she radiates those feelings through her voice. Great reaction.

Hi Emma, I see you feel it :) This masterpiece really touched my soul the very first time I heard it. The feeling of the song, the lyrics and the beauty of the performance. Emppu´s guitar solo - just perfect! It overwhelms me sometimes because things haven´t been easy for many years but the music of Nightwish released and cured me from so much pain. I feel so lucky.. And I also met Tuomas a few weeks ago with a very dear friend of mine. I told him some things I never believed I would have ever had the chance to... It´s like a dream...

This song is very personal for Tuomas. I believe he wants this played at his funeral.
Whenever you see 'boy' or 'poet' in the lyrics, Tuomas is usually referring to himself.
I know this is an older song when Tarja was in the band but Floor knocks it out of the ball park. You must watch this whole concert as I have countless times it is truly a masterpiece!!

This is one reason why i love Nightwish.. you thought that "ive seen and heard all about Nightwish" and *BUM* it hits you in da face and theres something totally new which you didnt even except.. Ive seen em many many many many times even their first ever gig back in 1997.. Ive cried, laugh etc etc so many times in their gigs and after +50 shows i really dont know what is going to happen.. they still get me!!! And that is rare.. well in my opinion at least.. Maybe you´re ready for the next masterpiece called "The Poet And The Pendulum" and after that "The greatest show on earth" If you wanna hear Marko then it should react to "The islander" and "high hopes(cover)" and last but not least "While your lips are still red" and if you wanna hear what happens when you make Tuomas and Marko mad you should listen "Master passion greed" Those are only few ones and theres so many more.. Ill hope you get to see em live!!!

The ending vocals takes my breath away! It is so emotionally powerful. This song is based on a hypothetical situation. If Tuomas (keys) were to die unexpectedly, this is what he would want to say in a letter to all of his fans and family. 🙏🙏🙏☝

Nightwish has a concert in Montreal this Friday May 6. Unfortunately, it has been sold out for weeks now. Last I checked couple days ago, no other North American concert is sold out yet. Over the years when Nightwish has come to North America, Montreal always sells out. They've supported Nightwish since way back at least to year 2000.

Hello, in my opinion, this is one of the most personal Songs from Tuomas, with The Poet and the Pendelum. We have our Big three, GLS,The Poet...,The greatest Show on Earth. I have my Big five. With Death Boys Poem and Shoemaker .Great reaction Emma🤘🤗
Emma, hi ! It might help you to know Tuomas uses several pseudonyms to refer to himself in various Nightwish songs which he writes from experiences or imagination, he says he is a man with a boy's heart and you will see that directly in places, here for instance, or elsewhere as "one with a pure heart", a line Floor sings in a high head voice as you might hear from an excited small boy.
Of course, you hear the narration spoken by a young boy. . . . . . .
He will also use poet, dreamer, writer/song writer or ocean soul - Tuomas has an affinity for the ocean, he was studying to be a marine biologist.
This song is his self-written obituary/epitaph, he is the dead boy and appears in the back drop imploring the swans which in Finnish traditions carry you off to the afterlife.
(Edit - I forgot) There's two Shakespeare quotes in this song almost verbatim from Sonnet 71 and 72, Sonnet 71 starts, "No longer mourn for me when I am dead" and Tuomas used the line " Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that writ it"; and Sonnet 72, "And live no more to shame nor me nor you."
Tuomas said this about Dead Boy's Poem:
"This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul".
The only time too you will see a very serious Emppu, not his usual joking and happy self; he knows what this song means.
This show was the celebration for the 2 decades of the band, it was an honor for us to have them pick our city (also Bogota but it didn't end up in the DVD because Floor wasn't feeling very well there)

It helps that Floor trained in the performing arts with her Classical/Opera training and the fact she is an Empath gives her the ability to connect with the song and lyrics and helps us connect with her Thank you.

Tuomas more of a composer than a song writer. (Not a crit of song writing). NW about tone and texture for me. The Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth classic example of classical "movement" composition

Possibly my favourite Nightwish song. I think I like the original rendition with Tarja even more (probably mainly for nostalgic reasons, since that was the voice I discovered the band with), but Floor does a phenomenal job on this one, as usual :)

Floor has amazing lungs that's for sure. I'm the same height as her but I'm a bigger build & I need to have a top & bottom X-ray when I need my lungs done because they don't fit on one slide so maybe she's the same. Though she's got epic training though I was a swimmer

Tuomas is a genius....and Floor turns this song into one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard!
If you want to hear another song where the audience sings along with Floor, listen to "Elan" from the same concert, Buenos Aries, 2018! It's one of my favorite songs of all time!
And I am 64 years old, and have heard a lot of the greatest bands and Nightwish is by far my favorite band!
This is another tear jerker song from NW, I tear up every single time, especially since my ex girlfriend left me after 9 years on and off together, (we were best friends who took it to the next lvl till I started struggling with mental health issues and I guess she got tired of it) the line that hits me the most is when the boy says "And you... I wish I didn't feel for you anymore"
Emma I need (We...I guarantee its a We) a favour. When the time comes and you react to 'Poet and the pendulum' please 🙏 make the lyrics live version and PLEASE make a research before (read the letter of the band and Tarja, find out about the story behind the songwriting) it's going to be a different experience. Also WHEN you choose that the time has come to do the other masterpiece 'The greatest show on earth' please do a research also (mostly about Richard Dawkins, his book and the album).

Yes, though Wacken 2013 Live concert is coverin' all the basics - there's much more to find in their newer published concerts 💜This genre - symphonic heavy metal music (there are several sub genres) is a hook that I've seen Opera singer/Vocal coach swallowing with lure and line when she started with symphonic 😆 Keep diving in the world of symphonic metal. Genre that is not mainstream in US and it may give you new things to learn and teach?
