I agree. I have seen many descriptions of Floor, but that is unique and can only be said about a select few artists and bands.

Agreed, first listen I was like, oh this is nice, but after the 2nd or 3rd hearing, it's stunning as usual! Anything this woman does is magical.
Absolutely agree with these others. First time was....very nice, but the more you listen, the better she hooks you.
The young boy in the background is Tuomas; he wrote this song about himself and the bullying he received in his school days. The birds you see are swans flying up to the Finnish Valhalla and the boy wants them to take him with them.
Floor said she felt very empathetic to Tuomas when she sang this song which should come as no surprise because she IS a very empathic person. She makes us feel that closeness to her(well I do anyway-brings me to tears many times and I'm in my late 70s).

The young boy's voice represents Tuomas' inner child. The spoken words are actually the "Dead Boy's Poem". This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. The swan is the guide to the afterlife in Finnish mythology. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side. A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny.

Only Tuomas could seamlessly weave in two lines from two different Shakespeare plays and have them be so organically part of this poem. Utter genius.
There's two pieces of Shakespeare in there (at least). First "If you read these lines remember not the hand that wrote them" is from Sonett 71. Second: "I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you" is from Sonett 72

@@AndyMagnusson70, I agree with you 100%. I actually prefer Anette's original version of Storytime; it's more whimsical. The thing is, Floor is a captivating, almost mesmerizing presence with a seemingly bottomless pit of vocal awesomeness and charisma, that also happens to be the current singer and thus the one with the most exposition of the three.

I think it's The Poet and The Pendulum. He even wrote his own name in the lyrics.

I would say that Poet is even more personal. Writing a song about killing yourself to cope with the urge to do it for real is more personal than this.
@@keimok1717 Yeah but there's only one song where he wrote "Tuomas" in the lyrics. You can't make your own interpretations in The Poet and The Pendulum.

I have never heard of this band. You opened up my eyes to something new for me to check out. It kind of has a Trans Siberia Orchestra feel to it. Great job on this one!

I get what you're saying in the broadest of terms but NW is a far more important and groundbreaking band. Check out everything from Nightwish from the live concert from Wacken in 2013. You'll go from "eyes open" to totally obsessed in a short time.

I Want My Tears Back same concert If you want to see Floor sing and she dances to! I suspect the commenters that are giving you grief or criticism of pronouncing properly are not really in the Nightwish Army. There really isn’t any rules but to enjoy the music. But there’s some general guidelines, 1) NEVER talk over the music. 2) We understand you must pause to stop from being blocked! You will get better at pausing as you journey thru the Nightwish catalog . 3) Don’t do Poet and the Pendulum until you’ve done the backstory & history of why Thomas wrote the masterpiece. 4) When you do Greatest Show On Earth click on Tempere concert and watch it to the complete end of the video! You will thank me later!5) Want to know Floor Jansen history of joining Nightwish there is a Documentary titled “Learn the Setlist in 48 hours”. And the most important guideline in the discovery and journey into the world of Nightwish, just enjoy. As a Old Metal/Rock head who discovered them over 20 years ago my mantra is, “MY FAVORITE NIGHTWISH SONG IS ALWAYS THE LAST ONE I HAVE LISTENED TO!” Enjoying your channel because I get to enjoy discovering my love of Nightwish thru you and other reactors! Not sure if you've covered Floor in a Dutch TV programme called "Beste Zangers" but check it out - she sings "The Phantom of the Opera" perfectly also "Shallow" amongst others. I know you follow her, so I'm guessing you've already heard her own channel covers such as "Let it Go", "Alone" and the latest one, "Oblivion" ? All extremely good. Btw, in the beste zangers show (which she won), each singer has a night off and the other singers have to sing pertinent songs to her - Floor wrote a great song called "Strong" and Emma Heesters(sp?) sang it to her which made Floor very emotional - so maybe you might want to take a look at that - I know it's not Floor, but at least it's her song! Can't wait to hear more Floor and Nightwish songs from you. Take care 🙂

I think it was last time when you did "The Islander", it was the music video with Anette Olzon, the 2nd singer, i like the "Islander" live version from Tampere 2015 with Floor very much, look it by yourself if you have time, i think you will like it too. And i agree, look always the live versions because Floor is such a good, perfekt, powerful and versitaile singer, but the whole band did live always a perfekt job. For me Floor is the best female singer at our time, and really beautiful, a huge (1,86m high!) beautiful Viking siren! 😉 If i could wish an reaction from you i would ask for "The poet and the pendulum" from Wembly 2015, or "The greatest show on earth" from Tampere 2015. Please do "The greatest show on earth" from Tampere 2015 if you do it because it's an outdoor conzert and they can do things outdoor the couldn't do indoor, i don't say more but if you see it you know why i say this and what i mean.
From the same Buenos Aires show you did the "Dead boys poem" reaction you also could do "Slaying the dreamer" or "Devil and the deep dark ozean", they are a little bit heavier but i think you would like them.

Good reaction to a great song, and one which is very personal to Tuomas - right up there with "The Poet And The Pendulum" (but get all the backstory before reacting to that - Ideally from Wembley 2015). It forms a trio with "Bye Bye Beautiful" and "Master Passion Greed" covering Tarja's departure from Nightwish. The first (BBB) is addressed to Tarja, the second (MPG) to Marcelo, but TPATP deals with Tuomas' own feelings over the matter and the backas which was directed at him.
OK, nobody else has, so I'll be cheerleader for Troy on the Irish bouzouki, yet another instrument he is a master of.
Quite well shown in tis video, he is driving the rhythm here in this latest arrangement, proiding a treble element to go with Marco's bass and Kai's drumming.
Troy is to instruments as Floor is to vocal textures - the swiss army knife who can do it all.
And he's allso a music producer and composer for full orchestra and choir (3 albums in his own name).
I think if Tuomas wants a sound that isn't in the range of current instruments, Troy just learns another.
But you have to do "I Want My Tears Back" from this concert - it is doubly epic because of the audience! You'll see!

Floor is amazing. Everything you said about her, I agree with. Now, go investigate Tuomas Holopainen a bit. It is HIS compositions/musical arrangements which give voice to the emotional performances Floor graces us with. There are a couple of documentaries on the making of some of the Nightwish albums which are worth watching.
Like to hear a beautiful soundtrack for a film which has never been made? Check out "The Life and Times Of Scrooge" (McDuck), by Tuomas Holopainen. In fact, I am going to go listen to that, again.
About always choosing the live versions..... That's certainly true with Nightwish, although there are a few exceptions where BOTH the live and the official vid are valuable adjuncts to one another. The Islander seems to be one of them. While Marco's universally loved solo performance out on the catwalk at Tampere is not to be missed, the official vid adds an important perspective to the lyrics as being a metaphor for the mixed and contradictory emotions of both the melancholy and the peace of release at the end of life. One probably would not pick up on that meaning from the live version alone and conclude it was just a straightforward, literal sea shanty. But the imagery of the video brings a whole new insight. /// Also, we learn that Nightwish doesn't sit around the campfire. The campfire sits around Nightwish!! LOL!
