The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classical trained singers this is an excercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast 😁.

In opera they call it a portamento (same thing) and by the way: vocal coaches often use the ability to make fluent and untinterrupted glissandi or portamenti through all registers going up or down as an important indicator of a singers vocal capabilities and control... (and I believe the highest note in that slide is F6)

@@johnlindquist1784 Thanks!, I thought somebody said that the high note in Fantom of The Opera was a D6, and this was an F6, but I did not research it...
But a D6 is really high too... And the amazing thing is how fluent Floor goes all the from the bottom to the top note, and back again, passing through all the registers and passagio´s etc. That is vocal control!
Marco once mentioned: "with the previous singers i always had to hold my voice back because my voice is strong, but with Floor i do not have to hold back, as Floor can compeet with my voice. I now have much more fun singing together with Floor".

SoFie, you might enjoy "Beste Zangers 2019" with english subtitles. But on Floor Jansens channel you will find her songs from there. Floor did this show, because her idol Henk Port, a opera singer from the Netherlands, part took and, so the population of her home country, the Netherlands, would know and appreciate her. She is and was a respected vocalist all over the world, except in her home country. In the show about 8 very sugcessful vocal artists of different genres sing for each other, no competition, often they bond and stay friends afterwards. In the first episode it was decided, that the "metal chick" should sing first to her idol. Man were they in for a pleasant surprise. They expected a shrieking growling woman and instead witnessed a classical singer par excellence. You and yours stay safe and sound.

Floor just walked through the registers and the notes, in one breath, it's incredibly, I have never heard this from other singers, it is possible that there are D6, Eb6, E6 at once, so different notes are said in different places.

@@hamohamo8270 the idea of a glissanso is that i covers the whole range of frequencies between the starting point and the end point, it is not a stepwise thing where you hear only certain notes...
@@rientsdijkstra4266 Floor voice does not jump out of the lower register immediately in the high register, she gradually rises through the registers and notes, from low to high, then goes down at the end, and this is not the whole range of Floor.
@@hamohamo8270 You are completely RIGHT! I was not contradicting you! My point is that that smooth transition is exactly the definition of a slide or a glissando. And that is exactly why vocal coaches see the ability to make nice glissando over a large range as an indication of a great technique(!). First of all many singers with lesser technique find it difficult to make fluent changes in pitch will keeping tone and volume consistent. Furthermore, when the singer moves her voice over a large range she will have to overcome two frequency ranges where the voice needs to make a jump from one register to another (the so called passagio's). With singers with a lesser technique you will hear this as sudden "clunky" jumps in the sound when he or she slides up or down through this range. But great singers like Floor Jansen, who have an excellent technique, have so much control over their vocal chords and anatomy that they can produce one seemingly fluent slide over the whole range, that to the listerner sounds as consistent, smooth and uninterrupted
and you are right also on the second point: Floor Jansen has been recorded singing notes up to F6
BUT: my reaction to you was is that in a slide there are no specifiek "in between notes" that you can measure, because the logical consequence of the above is that a slide or glissando consists of continuum of frequencies that is traversed smoothly...
"In between notes" are what you get if you make slide or glissando while using autotune (with strict settings). Because depending on the settings of the software the autotune will try to "correct" all the frequencies in between the official scale notes and snap them to the nearest scale notes, which gives a strange "steppy" effect. (actually: this is often used as an effect by modern singers in hip hop and R&B...)

I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja )
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish.
Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Hi SoFie, Happy This Year. Nice to see you again. It makes me so happy to watch your joyful reaction. You mentioned many of those features which make the Nightwish so enjoyable band to watch. They really give their best on those performances. They are very skilled professionals, they know how to do it, interaction with the audience, stage presence, everything. And tons of small details on the stage, pyrotechnic and background images, even the keyboard or microfone stands. Everything is carefully thought - that's the quality of Nightwish. Gabriel sent you a list of Nightwish songs, there are good choises to hear Marko singing too. He is a great basist, but also very skilled quitarist and singer too - he can sing really high notes when needed. Let's listen more of Nightwish. See you again.
Nice to see you react with passion and surprise. This bassist Marco is bit overshadowed by Floor but he is a remarkable singer and so important for this band. A pity that he's not part of the group anymore. He's essential for Nigthwish in many ways.

Love your enthusiastic reaction. So many of Nightwish' s songs have a particular moment which drives reactors insane, and this is no exception. Marko and Floor's vocal slide, near the end, is similar to 'that note' Floor reaches in Ghost Love Score. I love waiting, to see the reactions. Seeing as how you are impressed with Marko, may I suggest a couple of Nightwish performances, fearturing Marko on lead vocals. First is 'Kiss, while your lips are still red', and the second is their cover of the Pink Floyd classic, 'High Hopes'. You won't be disappointed...

Nightwish way back during the period of their first of 3 singers, while Tarja is doing a costume change, they do a cover of Pink Floyd's song "High Hopes" where Marco does all the vocals. Nightwish is so versitile, not a song sounds like an other.

Since this concert, Jukka, the drummer, had to resign from playing, due to servere migraine and insomnia.
Marco resigned a couple of years ago due to a kind of stress from outwards coming issues.
Kai Hahto, a good friend of Jukka took over the sticks, and is a phenomenal drummer!
You can see this in his former band Wintersun, from their live rehearsels in sonic pump studios!

Yes, it is one of the heavier songs, but far from the heaviest :-) Marco also has a great voice. He could easily be the lead singer in a large international band.

Yes, all the band members are brilliant and all they all work together to achieve Tuomas' musical vision (more like a classical mindset than pop/rock). Of course, Floor's vocals do stand out, but everyone is awesome!
Metal Queen Badass she is, Floor asked Tuomas to put this in the setlist. She can sing so beautifully operatic, bring a tear to the eye with more contemporary popish, and knock your head off with her metal badassery. I loved the reaction.

Marko can sing... and so can Troy, people take always so long to figure out he is also a singer (in addition to dozen of instruments he plays). He was singing so little with Nightwish so far; though, I am curious how much he will have to sing now.
hopefully not too much as his voice whilst suited to some of the new songs is not a belting voice as it has no power and is dominated by Floor. This was evident in the virtual concerts. As with when Annette was the lead there were some songs they couldn't perform there are now again songs that they can't perform without a Marco type singer. Not a big deal they have a huge catalog to choose from and maybe they will dig a bit deeper to find some other gem that works with Troy's voice that wasn't considered before. That is my hope anyway unless Marco chooses to return. One I would like to see them play live again and that Troy's voice could work well with would be Creek Mary's Blood.
@@mnewm21 Yeah, I agree Troy has very different voice than Marko and is not suited for most Marko's songs (just as Anette could not sing Tarja's songs the same way).

phantom of the opera with henk port too. and ReVamp song Sweet Curse with henk is good too. hes a bit too opera for my taste in that song though. its better in grasspop when floor did the whole thing herself

Nightwish is so heavy because they are a Metal band. That is also the reason why Floor has so much power in her voice. Metal wants to be the hardest, fastest and loudest music in the world. You can't stand at the microphone and beep softly into it. And every metal guitarist in the top bands can do Eempu's fast solo. Floor can of course also do what you have missed, but only uses it occasionally except here:

Hello my beautiful Sofie. How has your year 2022 began? I hope you've been safe and healthy. I missed your impressions when you see band or Floor do something unexpected or something very cool sounding. Your big brown eyes just almost pop out from their sockets from wonder. Heheh. And yes Marco can sign very well. He has almost as much vocal capability as does Floor. At this time nand has just discussing amount of talent on stage. You really need to react on Islander, in Tampere 2015, Greatest show on Earth same venue and year. I want my tears back Buenos Aires version 2015 or 2016. In those you can hear Marco sign more as well.

I absolutely agree with you about the flabbergasting end of the song. Marko is awesome and Floor is ... yeah... I've never heard anything like that before besides the Diva in Fifth Element on autotune. That part is frickin' Phenomenal!

Keep doing Nightwish. You never know what you're geting into...but you know it will be GOOD. And yeah....most singers sing what they can. Floor sings whatever the hell she wants. And Marko....yeah....The High Hopes cover, The Islander...Their duet of Ave Maria. Marko is incredibly talented. He mixed the sound for the Wacken DVD release, of which this is a part. The more I hear from him and about him, the more impressed I become. Emppu can shred. No doubt. I like this song because I feel it shows off more talents of the band. Great reaction!

Of all Floor's ability, the one I sill can't believe is her chesty head voice if it makes sense, and her transtition is crazy smooth. I don't know how to describe it.

In the three years since we were introduce to Nightwish by our son, we probably watched more than 300 reactions to this performance, but none better than yours! Joanne and I agree we love yours the best. From your obviously pleasant shock at first to Marco's vocal talents, through your facial expressions during the range of musical dynamics to your repeating several elements of the performance to review the vocal gymnastics of Marco and Floor, it was very enjoyable for us to watch. As senior citizens, we love when young folks become giddy over our favorite band. I haven't checked to see if you've reacted to our FAVORITE Nightwish performance, so if you have please forgive me for asking you to react to "7Days to the Wolves" from their Wembley concert of 2015. You need to react to Nightwish - High Hopes, live from End of an era. It's a tribute to Pink Floyd. There you get amazing vocals by Marko and TWO amazing guitar solos by Emppu. You will not regret it. Trust me.
If you want more Marko, I recommend checking out The Islander and Ever Dream. Two of my absolute favorite Nightwish songs.
I love Empu's face at the end of the solo. I'm pretty sure those are pinch harmonics being bent with the whammy bar. Some people will use a whammy pedal to get that kind of sound. To do it with pinch harmonics and the whammy bar takes a lot of touch which makes it hard to be consistent. So that face he has when he makes that note is just perfect for the situation! And of course that wail from floor at the end is just otherworldly. I don't think I noticed that Marko slides down during that part before. Good catch! Does he slide back up and kind of meet back in middle with her?
That moment at the end of the slide is referred to as a Floorgasm and yes it is normal to feel that way.

Marκo has been a singer for 35+ years and his bands is called Τarot and Μarko Hietala (listened "Islander live at Tampere").You could call him a veteran. Listened to masterpieces Nightwish "Greatest show of the Earth" ,"High Hopes"(Led Zeppelin), "Ever Dream" and "Poet and the Pendulum" (there is a story behind it, google it).

You can look "The Islander", a song from the Anette era, she was the 2nd Nightwish singer after Tarjas end 2005 and Floors in 2012. He sings all the time in this song, Anette is only in Background. A freaky song from her era is "Scaretale", look the official videos, they are mostly good. Another song where Marco sings is "If the lips are still red", but there are many other songs more where he plays in one song a bigger or a small or no part in another one or sings alone , "High Hopes" is good. You also could look "The Islander" as a live version from a conzert in Tampere 2015, this is a cool live version from this song, with Floor. Another cool song with Floor and Marco is "Last ride of the day", live from Wacken 2013! I think you would like all this songs. I Like your Nightwish reactions! A 🍸🍾Happy New Year🍾🍸 to you! Marco has an excellent voice... If they need a little rasp, or harsh vocals... gives them that. But if they need some smooth clean tenor harmonies to follow along with Floor, he gives them that too.
This video shows that when it comes to Nigthwish Universe, you didn't even leave the Solar System yet and you should react to Nightwish more often. There is a whole Universe to explore.
In the comment about the solo end, the vocals don't come in after , but as the guitar glissando descends through the note Floor starts singing.
All the times I've listened to this, I never caught that Marko stopped sliding and Floor kept going. Really gives a "torn" feel to the sound.
