Informative as always. Recently the high end fakes are becoming increasingly difficult to spot even with the movement exposed. Your best advice is “if it too good to be true…then it isn’t true” is still the most sound advice for any type of purchase. As always I thank you for your expertise and your willingness to share your knowledge ! Cheers 🍻
The best to you have during the whole video, many times, is: IF YOU SAW OR KNOW A REAL ONE! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Whoever haven’t seen one, and it isn’t so obvious, it can be tricky! I own a 70’s “replica” inherited from a Berry dear friend who bought it knowing what it was, told me the whole story behind it, and it’s only obvious after you open it and see it is a battery operated movement. I’m restoring to its glory in memory to this friend who was a father figure for me. Thank you for yet another great video!
I am enjoying your videos and subscribed. A few years ago I found two watches wrapped in cloth under the spare tire in a wrecked car while cleaning out the car so it could go to the junk yard. One is a Panerai Luminor Daylight. The other is Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. Both heavy and look nice but as you suggest I had a watchmaker I trust look them over and as soon as he removed the case backs he showed me they are fake.
I googled the serial number for a watch I was about to buy on eBay and saw that many people had a watch with the same serial number. Turns out it was a Bombay Special, so I didn't buy it. I have a Seiko 5 that I now think is a Bombay Special even though the serial number checks out with Seiko's serial number search - it has a pry-off back cover that says it has a 5126 movement
Well... It can be hard to have experience with vintage watches or real Luxury watches. I've seen the new superclones and even the movement is hard to spot.
These was cheap replicas. I would like to see the difference between super clone (400-500 dollars) or hand made which use real Rolex parts (1400-1500 dollars). Could you please do video about those replicas. Thank you.
I think "for the collector" means "do not wear, plating will flake right off". :D I can actually think of a manufacturer that sells, directly from the factory, an experimental batch where cases were made 30 years ago, and assembled recently, that can't be worn, for double what the actual new ones that are to be worn go for, where they were experimenting with materials and got it horribly wrong. Fair enough i guess :D
I have bought several fakes on my rounds getting watches for repairs. Pawn Shops don't take in crap watches but there are high end Rolex Omega fakes that are very hard to tell the difference even removing the back cover. All looks legit with these $1500 replicas. The problem is with dealers, they do not allow watches to be tampered with, by opening. You want it, buy it. Looking on EBay and no way to inspect it, you have to trust the seller is supplying a real legitimate watch. In watches it is always best to buy a new watch from a reputal dealer or trusted source. You only have your reputation to go on and selling fakes to buyers leaves you with a negative reputation.
The Tanivas is not a fake, it is an example of junk budget watches before the quartz crisis killed them and that's a good thing. The Swiss were fully complicit btw, a part of history they have swept under the rug. But this highly misleading example was made in Italy apparently.
Honestly my main issue with the Tanivas tries to miss advertise what it is, as someone that really likes these very stripped down/spartan movements. These 1 jewel watches can be strong tickers and even fairly accurate with a bit of love, but this one crosses the line with the "Medals" thing. I know it's trying to make itself look more like a jeweled watch dial-wise, but just don't.
Very good video. The Seiko did not have an Indian movement as commented by one of the viewers and seconded by you. It looks like a cheap Russian movement, not an Indian one. India does not, I repeat, does not produce fake movement. We have world class watch company like Titan which has purchased Favre-Leuba watch brand, the iconic swiss brand.
Please be careful. I have seen channels get strikes for showing fake watches even when they are only shown as a way to warn people. I'd hate to see you get in trouble with RUclips. They don't have enough common sense to see that you are doing a service.
Hi all of you. Love this Kalle videos. I am impressed about the microscopes. Since I am beginner of hobby watchmaking. Can anyone suggest a cheap microscope with simmilair features as Kalle uses. :D Also to thank Kalle for his sharing of know how.
Even the supposed originals cheat tremendously in their marketing. Absolutely most of what is sold as swiss made should be rather called: delivered through switzerland.
Thank you for a most informative video, half a year ago i looked at a vintage Seiko 5 sports. The second hand swept, almost, when i askedtge seller to remove the case it was a quartz, a high beat quartz movement. The seller told me that all Seiko 5 from the 70s had quartz movements, i did ofcourse not buy that feiko. But for a beginner in the watch collecting it can be difficult to know. Please do not compare a fake watch with a homage, i own a Pagani Design Daytona homage with a mecha quartz movement, and a Tacticalfrog H-5 a captain Willard homage. These 2 are not fakes. When people ask me about them i tell them what kind of watches they are what the movements are and where i bought them.
You are looking at homage watches with Dutch (Western) eyes. All fine, each has his opinion like you also said. But ... Asian people like to honor famous designs and brands by copying them or getting inspiration from them. There is more to it then your own local view. Just my 2 cents.
Personally I think that the excessive "brand" protection in the west is of no real moral concern. Thera are so many products in the west right now which don't have any substance but just marketing to sell. Please leave the logo to yourself and charge me just for the real product.
It always amazes me with some high end fakes, that the effort they put in to make these watches “fake” is so wasted, as they could probably make there own watch, which could look good and keep incredible timing. But it’s all about the $$$$$$
Marketing. Rolex spend millions of $ on marketing (F1, Tennis). I don't support trademark infringement, the makers of these clones save money on marketing hence why they are significantly cos less than the genuine.
jajajajaajaj this smile guy shows all the cheapest replics there are from $15 dolars to $ 2thousand check Jenni Elle on $600 dollars rRolex Submariner replica is just exactly to the original
Homage……..OK. Replicants/fakes/Franken Watches……..no………..HELL NO. NO COMPROMISE. These criminals need to be jailed imho. Fine vid Sir. Just subbed. Thanks
Thanks Kalle. I'm working my way through all the videos on this channel. Very absorbing. See you Tuesday. Thanks

Excellent as usual
Great video, congrats and I as a noob, I love the work you do!
I love the Tanivas. It has got all things to be a perfect fake watch.....
Really well presented and really useful advice. Thank you
Did he get the Speedmaster from the Restoration VR guy?
Great, thanks for sharing. Useful info
Hey. The Rolex fake had an actually quite decent Miyota movement inside.
This is reason I won’t own a Rolex… most “wrist watchers” see it and think it’s fake anyway. The most faked watch of all… great vid Kalle.
lol keep telling yourself that 😢
Buy a watch to satisfy yourself not to impress others.
Have a Nautilus look alike but not marked or faked-love it it is what it is
Then there are people who collect replica watches.
If vanity didn’t exist neither would fake luxury goods.
😂
Ive done My autentic Trollex Oister and im proud Of It XD
Good advice, thanks!!

I don't think the valjoux 7751 should show the year but the day. That is a huge sign for a fake
Also, most of us can remember the year and don't need it on our wrist...
As usual, thanks for the excellent advice! I will also remember not to remove the back of a watch 16 or more times in a day ;)

Big topic. Even big auction houses sell fakes as I learned today.
THANKS
Love it!!! 👍

The reputation stays intact if you don't advertise them as originals.

they sell for about $500, my gens stay in the safe.

I like the well made fakes. They rub it in to the noses of the snobs how ridiculously overprices the so called originals are.
The weight of the watch, fakes are often lighter!
I’ve seen fake Tissot, Chopard! Some are hard to detect!
Never ever buy anything from India for one. There are also in your country buying these and trying to sell as genuine 😢
jajajajaajaj this smile guy shows all the cheapest replics there are from

Very interesting, crazy that people are giving their money to criminals without even realizing it.
