  • Dan and Kirk discuss the topic of relapse in the context of sobriety. They share their personal experiences with relapse, highlighting the different ways it can manifest and the challenges it presents. Kirk opens up about his own relapses, detailing the triggers and emotions that led him back to substance use. He reflects on the disappointment and self-blame that accompanied his relapses, as well as the impact they had on his relationships and overall well-being. Kirk and Dan also touch on the importance of support and understanding during the recovery journey, emphasising the need for compassion and self-reflection when addressing relapse.

Menace II Sobriety Live brings the up & coming podcast to the live stage; hosted by Daniel O'Reilly and a special guest, no topic is off-limits. Combining humour with stories and issues which both Daniel and the audience will have experienced, whether first hand or through someone they know. Offering an environment for people to openly discuss their struggles was Daniel's main focus behind starting the podcast, as well as his M.A.T.E group; so now he also brings it to the stage and to the public.
What can people expect at the live podcast:
Join Daniel at Menace II Sobriety Live, as he discusses all things sobriety, ADHD, mental health and more. The podcastwill be recorded live with a special guest, including audience interaction and finishing with an open Q&A.
Daniel will not only be discussing sobriety, but everything life throws at us, and he would love for you to join him. Bring your tissues and your sense of humour, because we have no idea what topics will be discussed, but whatever the conversation, it'll be a supportive environment and may contain some dad jokes.
    Story behind the podcast:
The Menace II Sobriety podcast was set up after Daniel faced his own battles with sobriety, ADHD, mental health and certain life scenarios. He set up a M.A.T.E group on Facebook, so that men could support men in an accessible, open and friendly environment. Upon seeing the responses from men around the world to some of the posts on the group, Daniel was blown away by the kindness and support of strangers. This led him to create the podcast, inviting a range of guests from different backgrounds, sharing his own personal experiences & struggles; and now, opening up to the public in a live environment, where people can come along and watch in-person, or get involved in the audience interaction.

This is exactly what I needed. 3 months sober and I’ve found myself romanticising about having a blow out and blagging myself that I can have 1 or 2 nights out.
I’ve found that if I “fast forward the tape” from that first drink, it helps. Asking myself “if I have 1 pint, where and what will I be doing in 4 hours”
In my house. On my own. Sniffing. Hiding from the world. Great work guys. LOVE the podcast and helping so many 👌🏼

Kirk’s description of a panicked relapse was so good. That’s exactly how I felt with heroin after i’d quit. I’d literally have to run away from places before I snapped. It fades over time, but it’s not nice.

My second viewing of Dan and Kirk. What a brilliant podcast. To be honest I didn't know what a Podcast was but I knew I wanted to watch this. My view of Kirk has gone 180. I used to think he was an arrogant little shi t but he's a star in my eyes now. A normal bloke with demons and vulnerabilities and i love his honesty. I saw too many suicides as a retired Met officer of 32 years and your message to other men is brilliant honest and powerful. Please please guys, nothing is as bad as you think at that dark moment. Listen to this in the darkest night and talk and reach. Kirk and Dan, you've got another follower and Kirk, you are a credit to your dad. X

Kirk what you said about you know youve got one more relapse but not one more recovery is prob the best advice to anyone sober. Once youve had that last big bender where youve lost everything and hit rock bottom to regain that mental strength to live laugh and love again takes huge power. I can only speak from experience of being homeless and now having life and all its joys 3 yrs later the thought of losing it all again would surely be ⚰️. Thank you brothers youve created somehing special here which gives your listeners great strength 👊

Fellas fellas fellas. You’ve nailed it again. Listened to this ep on my walk this morning, once again kept me out the battle cruisers. Dan I messaged you on Instagram a few weeks back when I was at a low point, I know you’ve got a lot on and can’t reply to everyone so I don’t have a problem with you not replying, the good news is your other content (this podcast mainly) has helped me realise there are addicts out there just like me (not necessarily necking a bottle of whisky for breakfast like in the films). Cracking episode as usual lads... funny psychosis story for yous.
Up all night on the bag and was looking out my mums bedroom window. (She wasn't home ofcourse). Out the back there is a field which is usually pitch black at night. Paranoi hit massively and then the psychosis picked up rapidly. There was a man laying on his belly, at the bottom of the field pointing a machine gun at me laying dead still. 6 hours later and just as the light started to appear I was so tired from looking through my binoculars at the gun wielding guy. After numerous attempts to wake up my girl asking for the "bigger" binoculars and her telling me to get a grip I realised that this guy was actually an empty blue barrel minding it's own business next to a Hay bail. 7 years later now and I've been t total for 3!! Never going back. Stay strong lads

    Hiya lads,
Came across your podcast through reels on Instagram around 6 months ago and have listened ever since. You've inspired me to cut down massively on my cocaine and alcohol use, with a view of hopefully stopping all together in the next few months. I was just like Dan, once I started on the weekend I couldn't stop.
So many examples you give like getting aggy with your Mrs when she was just trying to help you and being their financially but not emotionally really hit home for me and have made me much more self aware despite the fact the relationship couldn't be saved in time.

    Hi Dan, kirk and John,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing the podcasts, every week your talkshow inspires me through my sobriety and your little nuggets of information really hit home and stick with me,
So I have a few of my own quotes that I would like to share with you and I hope it also helps others that are struggling.
First one is that it's easier to say no to drinking than it is to stop drinking
    Second is
I find like Dan I only have a problem once I've started drinking
    So
If you have a psychological addiction to alcohol but then have that first drink it becomes a physical addiction so if we don't have that first drink then we have already eliminated that physical addiction
I hope that sticks and keep going with your sobriety, can't wait to see you in colchester next year Dan.
    Cheers
    Chris

In my own limited experience, recently I've had 2 relapse in the last half year and I felt really bad about them. Even when I was in the moment I was thinking I don't really want to do this. I see that as a positive step because in the past I didn't care enough or see at as negatively as I should've done. I feel a lot more aware now that I REALLY don't want to do it. I think that's an important milestone.
