- Stop Being Forced To Use A Microsoft Account
So every time you install Windows 11, you are being forced to use a Microsoft Account to continue to install Windows 11. A lot of people have no need for a Microsoft Account and preferer a Local Account instead, so why have Microsoft remove this options during Windows setup? I will show you 4 ways to bypass the forced Microsoft Account during Windows 11 install process.

What do you guy think of being forced to use Microsoft account? Got a video request? Drop it below. Drop us a LIKE 👍
I hate being forced to use a Microsoft Account to login to my computer and I think it's INSANE to be honest that Microsoft is forcing this.
@@StaceyAyodele Then just don't use their product. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@just.nobody Windows is the only OS that runs all my games. It's not like I can just switch to Linux. Linux doesn't run certain programs that I need on Windows.
We're all just enslaved to the will of Microsoft.
@@StaceyAyodele Deal with it.
I am agree with others , why I should be forced to use login with Microsoft account. I don't want them to share any data with Microsoft.
The new Rufus version besides skipping the TPM and the secure boot, allows to skip the MS account too. It only works with the soon-to-be-released 22H2
Yeah, Rufus works great
for now until MS blocks it, they have been removing workarounds so I expect them to do the same for rufus.
I don't know why everything nowadays has to be online all the time. I don't like the idea of personal details being sold on some date center. I can still remember back in the days when I could install Windows XP without needing any internet access. I wish modern version of Windows were still that way.
Just the way things are going.
Money & data mostly. Notice also how most major software providers have swapped to the subscription method of business? You no longer just buy a single copy of your software that is essentially yours, you get bled monthly for a subscription fee. But its ok because you always get the 'latest version' 🙄
@@bobpage6597 Yes and I hate that, I like to think that if I buy something, I own it. That's why a lot of the software I use is outdated or free, for instance I keep an old copy of Adobe Flash CS5 to do my animation on as I refuse to "upgrade" to Animator and pay them monthly just so I can use it. If Windows ever becomes a subscription based OS, I will switch to Linux.
@@CoolDudeClem People hardly own stuff nowadays.
They read their books online - those who still read.
They watch streamed movies online.
They are listening to music online: Spotify, YT, etc.
First of all I agree this bites! I do not like being forced into anything, I like having freedom of choice and support those whom offer many options. I am sick and tired of corporations limiting options and giving you only 2 options; "take it or leave it option".
People need to start pushing back and take action by refusing their products, writing letters etc. However the downside is most do not care or unaware or they are followers, enjoy being told how, what, when and where.
This is a regime power a form of dictatorship.
Fubar!
Microsoft you bite. Some never learn.
Get a clue Microsoft, give people better choices and stop forcing garbage down our throats. You can do better than this.
If you do better then your revenue and reputations could be better.
It is that simple.
Had to vent, my apologies.
Glad you got that off your chest
Hear, hear Sir!
After that rant, you are finally on the verge of making the right choice & installing a Linux distro.
Said goodBye to microsoft after w7 been using Linux for years no problems superb.
Spot on advice. You sir are a wonder and a friend. We have three computers in our studio and we are doing fresh installs using your fourth method this weekend. Have a wonderful day and a thousand thank you's!
You are A Guru Britec, thank you so much.
And you can be sure that I share all your videos to all I know. Always helpful and clearly informative.
Good tips and easier than what I have been doing. Up till now, I’ve just played along by setting up with my Microsoft account and once in, creating a new local account, making it an admin account, then logging off the Microsoft account, then log in with the new local admin account, then deleting the Microsoft account. Works well but your methods are definitely quicker and more efficient.
I've been wasting time doing exactly that for the last two years when I set up PCs for other people. Jeez. This is so much easier. Very cool.
I hope The European Commission does something about Microsoft forcibly bundling online services with Windows. They seem to be the only ones taking a stick to Big Tech
Thank you so much Brian for covering this topic. One solution is great but four solutions to bypass signing up for a Microsoft account online is a whole lot better. I'm saving this video for future use when eventually get around to creating my Windows 11 install media on a USB stick.
Excellent video as always! Keep the workarounds coming! I guess we will need more when they tighten the screws!
Great walkthrou of the process
Thanks for sharing tour expirences 👍😃
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Britec !!!!👊🏻
As always, we can count on you to make great worthwhile videos!
I appreciate that!
Great tips. Thanks for sharing
Outstanding video. Thanks!
Mahaha! Thank you for this Sir! There's nothing "personal" left in a PC anymore these days. Respect and best wishes Sir:)
Most welcome!
Thank you very much for covering all the methods!
Another fault of MS account is, one cannot sign in if internet is down!
My pleasure!
This was very helpful. As well as bypassing the need to link to a MS account it also meant my users folders are named the way I want and not the first five characters of the email used to login to a MS account.
Great tips. Thanks for sharing this.
You are so welcome!
Thank for this - the no@thank worked for me. My version didn't have the skip or use local account. You saved me a lot of headache.
Excellent, Merci !!
Thanks for that piece of useful information. I had this problem with a new win 11 pro the other day.
You're welcome!
Thank You Very Very Much Brian more people his need this method i have an Old Pc !!!!
Very helpful!
It is clear that Microsoft is harvesting your personal data in the Microsoft accounts. This is something of value to them that they are taking from you.
Thank you Britec - you solved yet another issue and soon we shall defeat all all evil and make this a safer place to freak out in
Great RUclips video Brian. Very helpful.
Glad you think so!
Excellent, excellent video!! 👏 Thank you and I loathe any company that makes one create an account for data mining.

I have been a Windows user since 1993, Windows 11 with its design, bugs, requirements and privacy, made me sick of Microsoft.
After trying many Linux distros over several months I finally opted for Zorin OS, I'm amazed at how well Linux works.
Goodbye Microsoft
I wish it was that simple, unfortunately its not for many uses
@@Britec09 I agree with you, it wasn't easy for me, it took me months and I'm an advanced user. In Linux you need to know how to use terminal.
Linux is not for all users
@@user.fedorman The terminal is not the problem for most people. It's their programs that won't work in Linux. Many of us are playing games and some games just won't work in Linux. Others are working with advanced software for car diagnostics. Once again no luck in Linux!
PS! I've been using Linux since many years on my servers, but my desktop works best with Windows. And yes I've been testing Linux for many years now but I simply doesn't like it as my daily driver.
Some time ago I tested Ubuntu Studio XFCE on my laptop with a live USB stick. It worked very well. Then I tried the latest LTS version of Ubuntu Studio which had KDE as desktop environment. It was a disaster. Unstable, GUI glitches, stalls and totally user unfriendly. If they continued with the XFCE I was thinking of installing it permanently. But sadly they really fu***d up with the horrible KDE desktop.
I think that is why Linux never (?) will take over the desktop; to may distros which will take resources from really doing a nice stable "Windows killer"!
Same here linux for me
@@user.fedorman terminal is not so necessary to use Linux fallacy it's easy to use been using Linux 10 years
Great video, thanks Britec! I hate the Microsoft account, as it messes up my personal folders. And we all know once you login with a Microsoft account, they can collect data as much as they like.
August 14, 2022 - Brilliant!!!👍👍😊 Compliments to Brian for a clear, and concise instructional and informative video. I will archive the link to this video for future reference. I watched this video because Microsoft is getting more authoritarian by the day. With Windows 11 they are basically making people that buy that OS their property. They want to control everything from the customers' PCs to the customers themselves. After Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10, I will probably use a Google OS on my desktop PCs. I've already used Chromebooks for the past six years or so. Cheers from Connecticut, U.S.A👍👍😊
Thank you for sharing this information Britec! I am not a fan of being forced into using a Microsoft account either, so having these methods will be very helpful going forward.
Glad I could help Paul
Love your vid. thx Brian

fantastic guidance as to how to configure new computers without having to use the Microsoft account!
Upon installing Windows 11 you can pull the plug of the ethernet cord out of the computer it should automatically let you set up a local user account
Is converting MS accnt to a local/admin accnt (through settings/my info/sign in with local accnt instead, creating local admin accnt) just as good as doing the work-around tips at set-up? Or is there a reason that it's better to work around signing in with MS accnt during the set-up process with your new computer? Cuz the ability to change your sign in within settings/accnt/my info/sign in with local accnt instead seems to accomplish the same thing if the initial work around doesn't work or you didnt know about it before going through the set-up process
I remember on the original Windows 11 21H2 (I say that since it seems they've updated 21H2 since then) I managed to bypass Windows 11 Home requiring a Microsoft account just by simply connecting to the Internet when it said "You need to be connected to the internet to continue" and the very second it moved forward and said "Checking for updates" I quickly disconnected the internet and that update check failed and it asked me to use a local account. Pretty good considering that was a first time success, however I think you made a video once demonstrating that that method no longer works.
You can still do a local on Pro. Just need to select Join a domain. It actually makes a local account which from there they expect you to join it to a domain afterwards.
If I set up a local account like this for someone after resetting their PC, can I still set up a 4 digit PIN they can use as well? THANKS.
Are these options work on the Home version? On the Pro version, I just clicked the "Sign in option" then "Offline account".
Sir what if we try to install windows from older version of Windows 10 boot disk???
Haven't tried it in recent time.
Network Connection Flow is just the best
Yeah, works a treat
Good info
Thanks
hi brian from Cape Town....tell me do you perhaps know if microsoft gonna release another version of windows 10 as i can see the copy on their site is still a november 2021 release
Easier way is to select the option for work/ school account IE a domain machine, then you can create the local user account, just don't ever complete the join a domain later on.
In your first option (dummy account), do you click on the ‘use an online account’, or do you just enter the local account name to continue? It was difficult to see what you did next.
Thank you thank you thank you 🎉
Useful
Yes I agree that they should not be forcing people to only using an online account because yes it will defeat people's ability to install or even use Windows OS at all even the apps that can be used offline on the operating system in a place where someone is that happens to not have an internet connection but also bare in mind that they are also pushing this because of the built in Microsoft apps on the operating system that do require a Microsoft Account for them to fully work properly or even use them ( example : OneDrive, Chat from Microsoft Teams, Phone Link, Mail, Edge Browser ) and really more than anything you have to be online to acquire apps and functionality anyway specifically from the built in Microsoft Store ( Windows App Market ) regardless if those apps can be used online or offline because the Microsoft Store does require a Microsoft Account.
When you do this, will Windows still update all the stuff including apps?
Yes Brian I have often wondered why when setting up I had to get a Microsoft account which controls a lot of things like One Drive if you use it. But another great video and I sit in awe at how you work these things out - as I have said before you have a brain the size of Essex LOL!!
Is there anything that can be done *after* you've already been forced to install Windows with a Microsoft account? (besides reinstalling Windows...ugh)
I connected to a wireless access point (old Cisco router) that wasn't connected to my main router at the time and then it let me create a local account since it didn't have internet access.
thank you!! It took me 2 whole days to simply remove all the utter crap from my new laptop with windows 11. we have degoogled phones how about a de-micrsofted computer!
I tried your advice now to create a Win 11 x64 Pro Virtual Maschine with the Version 22H2 - the command oobe\bypass seems is removed. Well pure of them who still need to use Windows on thier maschines. Windows 10 was for me the reason to change full to Ubuntu Linux almost 8 yrs ago. Now I don't even will have a Microsoft System for evaluation.
Another annoying thing about win11 is the Local windows search will always Use Bing to search the web for suggestion. It is sinister. You must use regedit to disable it.
Interesting video but I have a problem: I don't know what a local account is, or maybe I'm just not getting the jargon. I still use Win7 and don't remember having to do this. I'm not a computer scientist.
That's fine, AFAIK windows 7 uses local account only. Windows 8 and up also has account like on android or Apple smartphone. Instead of local user it's connected to mail and some settings are backed up in cloud. Up to now it used to be users preference, but as last windows version is nearing it's end of official support in 2025 (Microsoft themselves said windows 10 would be last, so there's no longer trust in those liars) they are forcing to use online account. If North Korea would be developing OS it would be like windows 11 in terms of privacy.
Can one change all that in Win10 Home if it's already set-up and in use? Mark Anderson's comment below isalso my sentiment, particularly Microsoft, soft arm of insidious 'outside' muttering nabobs of greed and control.
Is it not possible to have a microsoft account that you really don't use, use that to install windows then make another local account and make it an administrator, then logging on as the new local account admin, delete the other account, obviously do this before you install any of your software, or am i missing something?
Whenever I reboot my Win10 PCs, always get nagged for creating an account now. Can't reject, can only be deferred until next reboot and I get nagged again.
Clever stuff.
You still have to use one to get out of the S mode, which I absolutely hate!
I'm on windows 10 and it was trying to force me to add a account after an update. The ipconfig with a dummy account worked to bypass sign in
Nice
thank goodness that ntlite exist there you can create your own user and delete everything you do not want :)
Thank you. I set up PCs for other people or end up having to reset them when they forget their passwords. Most people I help have absolutely NO need or want for a Microsoft account. Looking forward to watching this and learning how to get rid of the intrusive "mothership" and use a freaking local account.
@@dreaper2087 I wish, but not an option for 95% of people needing to run Windows programs. Most of the PCs I've set up for people are used by their kids for school work and the schools have standardized on what software they need and compatibility. It is all Windows based.
@@dreaper2087 you are wrong. The school system here standardized on WINDOWS a few years ago. They are locked in a contract for several more years. And any training given to the teachers and supported by their IT department is WINDOWS based.
Even more infuriating for us taxpayers was before this, they bought needlessly expensive Apple computers and laptops and were locked into that contract for 8 long years.
Now they use Windows 10 and 11.
Chromebooks are fine. They SHOULD use them next and lower costs. I hope they will.
You also miss my point. The educational software, particularly the math educational software they are using runs on WINDOWs.
Linux is NEVER going to be more than a footnote. Most people even today haven't even heard of it.
It got a bad reputation back when it was command line driven and all the inane set up required. Even with the current ease of Ubuntu and Linux Mint, it will never overcome that perception. Windows for good or ill is what people (other than Apple clones) will always use.
The current 2.43% of PCs running Linux in ANY flavor number speaks for itself. Go evangelize somewhere else.
@Linden Reaper it isn't my "job" to fix Windows. I do it because I can for people who cannot justify the expense of taking their PC to Staples or wherever to be "fixed".
I've been using Ubuntu and other flavors of Linux for years on old PCs - better than putting them in the landfill prematurely.
But go ahead. Go on the streets and ask 1000 people at random what "Sudo Get" means...you'll likely be lucky to find ONE person who knows....
That's how small Linux is and will likely always be. Even game developers hate it because of all the damned "flavors"...
That 2.43% is also admittedly inflated according to those who have done the looking...
Look, I like Linux. Free is good you know...but it is a minor footnote in the grand scheme of things. Chrome OS being run on Chromebooks is still a very small slice of the pizza.
Linux has made the most inroads into cellphones with Android. That's where its future lies.
@Linden Reaper not really. Linux is big on servers, sure. But that means nothing to users. They don't deal with it.
And nope. Wrong again, Windows is not my "bread and butter". It is what most of the world uses, so we HAVE to use it, so we might as well learn HOW to use it as best we can.
I started building computers in 1992. DOS was it, then Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, NT, etc., and now we are up to Windows 11 whether we like it or not.
I don't care. To me the best O/S is one that works and gets the hell out of the way.
As an engineer the software (Solidworks) I run ONLY runs on Windows, so that is what I use. That is reality.
Curious why you lurk on a RUclips channel that is 90% about Windows if you are so into Linux? Strange....
@Linden Reaper I mentioned Solidworks because I'm not the only one out here that HAS to use Windows.
As the old saying goes, no one in IT was ever fired for buying Windows...so here we are....
If you can use Linux in most of your life, then count yourself lucky. But I work for a company doing work that requires it.
Indeed we are having to go to considerable expense to move to Windows 11 in a few months. We have some great performance PCs here with killer video cards for Solidworks, but none of the motherboards will run Windows 11. That sucks.
Maybe low powered Chromebooks will become more popular, but sort of doubtful.
As a taxpayer I wish our local school board had more sense but they don't. They hired "consultants" who had no vested interest in keeping costs down.
As more and more people rely on their phones for their normal computing needs, yeah, maybe Android which is Linux based will push out Windows one day. We'll see.
I mainly have used it in the process of fixing Windows machines where the hard drive is dying. Seems Linux can often read them when Windows balks, so I can save their data for them and install a new hard drive.
I also successfully had an 75 year old neighbor use Ubuntu for about a year after Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98. She now uses an iPAD for everything she does and does not want to see another PC ever.
British you forget the easiest way of using a local account that won't get bypassed the OEM Setup press Control Shift F3 it logs you into a Administrator Account then you can go to the users setup the the account just reboot the PC plus it lets you install your drivers from OEM boards before you setup your PC so at ODBE the pc has the factory installed drivers before even windows updates have a chance to install the wrong drivers
I will check it out.
hello mate excel content as always . i have a question outside this matter . i use windows only to install Automotive diagnostic softwares . most of these softwares wont be install FULLY on windows 10 and 11 and 64 bits in particular . some of them only run on xp 32bits . why is that ? i mean wht 32bit has that 64 doesnt or what xp has that 10 doesnt if you get my point . is there any way software /program /Trick .. to fix the issue . is there any software that i can run same time installing a software to see what is happening on background to see what casuing that software from installing properly ? thanks a lot
32 bit OS has support for 16 bit applications, they are not working in 64 bit OS. Might be rare exceptions, though.
On a HP AIO it came with 11 to which I did not want but kept it anyway and I did use the last method you mentioned to which it did work. I did notice 11 has changed a bit from first versions that were released so I figured I would give it a go. However I have noticed down the road of having a local account Microsoft is continually hounding me to create an MS account. Especially now that they have noticed that I am now online and on occasion windows is trying to convince or force me into their account. I fear that it is only a matter of time that Microsoft will lock us out of a local account once internet connection is established or end up putting some kind of time limit on a local account. I think it is only a matter of time. What a shame.
Glad you got that all worked out. Thanks for watching and don't forget to hit the subscribe button thanks
Glad you got that all fixed. Don't forget hit the subscribe button. Thanks!
The mechanisms to prevent circumvention of the requirement for a Microsoft ID in Windows 11 seem to be as well architected and designed as the entire operating system, most likely by a couple of summer interns the morning after a beer binge. BTW Enterprise volume licenses do not require the MS-ID.
They will.
I already signed in to the Microsoft account afret installing windows 11 but I keep have to sign in everytime I'm going on youtube
And does one keep getting messages that my Microsoft account needs repair?
If the SHIFT+F10 doesn’t pull anything up, any ideas?
Yeah I had to click because the guy's hair was so funny 😂
I am not a fan of creating a Microsoft account but I can't see many options in the future. The Linux universe missed a huge opportunity when Windows was paid and now that Windows is free it will be even harder to make inroads. If it doesn't work "straight from the download" then it's an adventure and most people, when it comes to computing, just don't want that. They will just create the account and move on. I am sure others have said this but if only Linux focused on one main version to challenge Windows rather than having to choose a distro from the 100s available. The Windows advantage, in my opinion, is the single flavor OS with an excellent variety of programs. I know Linux also has an excellent variety of programs but the sheer number of distributions (500+) is ridiculous for the average computer user.
I've been clicking on "Sign-in options" and on following page "Use local account". If this eventually vanishes then workarounds!

Does this work with Wondows 10 ? Thank you
10 doesnt require a MS account.
I have never had a Microsoft account, since I got my first PC in 1999. As for why Microsoft have decided to take this action, I can only surmise it's a reaction to the recent ruling by the EU GDPR court decisions regarding Data Protection and intrusive behaviour by the Tech Industry. Microsoft's decision flies in the face of American 'Anti Trust' laws, so I think in due course, we will see MS taken to court for the umpteenth time and fined large sums... not that that has ever had any significant effect on them, as they just find another way around the problem. Clearly, America needs to be more proactive in protecting peoples Privacy, by means of their own version of the GDPR, but for some reason, they seem reluctant to do so. Too many lobbyists and too much profit to be made, by not legislating against it. Big Money Talks Very Loudly... to those with their snouts in the trough. Yet another reason for sticking with Windows 7? Time we all gave up on MS and went with Linux; which is what I'm seriously planning on doing.
They want to collect your data

I've got W7 and W8.1 on my PC and am hoping to replace one of them with Linux (possibly Mint).
Which one should I keep, and which one should I wipe out to make room for Linux???
Thank you, Patricia.
Has anyone had issues making a spoofed Microsoft account? A dummy account as an alternative bypass? I want to see all the details step by step so i know exactly what to do before i buy a new computer, to avoid being stuck on the forcef account creation step and not be able to get past it.
Use Linux instead. Seriously, I started using Manjaro about 9 months ago and have been distro hopping here and there and I'll never look back.
Hahaha, I ran into this yesterday. After not being able to bypass signing up for a Microsoft account I just did a forced hard reboot and it then booted up normally.
Nice
