My advice would be to get a second drive to dual boot Windows and Linux (although some distros like Pop!_OS don't work nicely with dual-booting, distros like Linux Mint do) or get a second/old computer to try out Linux first to see if you like it.
You may not like it at first, as getting used to it can take time, but it's really cool doing away with the ads/tracking shenanigans, even if you go with one of the more corporate distributions like Ubuntu.

(works on the Pro edition, doesn't work on the Home edition)
On the screen where you are being asked to choose "How would you like to set up this device?" you are given two options. Most people, since they are installing Windows on a consumer device, are going to go with the option to "Set up for personal use". That will bring up a screen asking you for the Microsoft Account credentials.
But, by choosing the option to "Set up for work or school" and then choosing "Sign-in options" on the next screen you are now presented with the option to join a domain. Choose that one. It doesn't matter if the device you're installing Windows on doesn't belong to a corporate domain, it will work regardless.
And, voila, the Microsoft Account is bypassed!

And the saddest part is that a lot of people even fully embrace this, just because one account ease of use and everything they have is centralized and synced over all their devices.
However there are a few laws here in the EU at least (GDPR recent example) that try to tackle at least privacy concerns, but they are sadly pretty hard to enforce as long as there are geographical locations these do not apply to. As going after them is nearly impossible and blocking the internet never goes well.
As an example for instance there is a part of the that GDPR is the annoying popup for cookie usage on websites, which also according to the GDPR need an easy option to disable all of the cookies and it should even be defaulted to disabled. But how many sites follow that? They just make that popup as annoying as possible to agitate people in the hope they will speak up against these laws.

I just had this problem yesterday when installing an SSD in a co-worker's personal laptop. While installing Win10 in the SSD I made the mistake of connecting to Wi-Fi and then it required an MS account and wouldn't allow creating a local account, there was absolutely no way to skip it (I suppose I could've disabled Wi-Fi and that would've been it). I logged in with my account, did what I had to do, then created a local account and deleted my MS account - which worked, but it is definitely not cool. I did confirm my user folder was successfully deleted, so I hope that was the end of it.

Thanks for taking the time to do this video, and looking out for your community in the way that you do.
    Thanks, Jay and team.
I’m middle aged and just built my first rig ever this year (GPUs, ouch) My first gaming PC (workstation). 3080/12700K 3xLG Ultragear 32in. 1440p nano. It’s allowed me to work for myself, pursue the creative outlets I love, and just overall improve my QOL.
I learned all the fundamentals here. Truly. You, GN, and a few random how tos and I now can build a PC no problem. I enjoy it.
The fact that you offer such value, look out for the privacy/safety of your audience/community is what keeps me coming back.
JayzTwoCents offers high value, integrity, and relatable content from good human beings.
You do important work. Thank you.

Indeed. And, congrats I guess. I's damn middle aged myself and disabled, and would be lost without this PC hobby, and channels like the ones you described. Also spent too much getting to have a 5800X, 6700 XT, Nu Audio Pro with Edifier S2000MKII, and an M32Q.

For audio I’m running some Fluance Ai60s, Schiit Stack (Modi, Magni, Loki w/short cables) Sennheiser 600s and an assortment of other headphones I love. Making my office into a place I love to go makes work far more satisfying.
Keep it up, homie. Thanks for reaching out.

@@wicksleysnipes1476 Yeah, it probably does. It depends on how good it is, but it easily could be a good one. Sound cards have the advantage of not taking up desk space. And I really like the quality of my Nu Audio Pro.
I think that is probably the best sound card available today, though stock has been almost non existent lately.

@@wicksleysnipes1476 Thanks man. appreciate that. And it sounds like you have some very nice audio gear there yourself. I bet those speakers sound really great.
Just a quick rundown of those models I mentioned, the M32Q is a gigabyte 1440p 170 Hz IPS monitor with great reviews from the pro reviewers like Hardware Unboxed.
Edifier S2000MKIII are very nice speakers with a 5.5" woofer on each and a higher end ribbon tweeter on each. Very heavy speakers, Hi Res audio certified, lots of power and low end for $450 cad. ( they have since been raised to $650 cad )
And the 5800X CPU and 6700 XT GPU are great gaming silicon that drives that monitor well for 1440p gaming content.
I would like to hear more about your "Schiit Stack (Modi, Magni, Loki w/short cables)"
and all of that sounds great but I know almost nothing about that stuff, specifically/../

Hi Jason, I'm writing this comment in the future 6 months to be exact. I tried the shift f10 in a pre-built Lenovo yoga 6 with Windows 11 and all it would do is ask me about the display but I washed another user who mentioned pressing function shift and f10 and now the command prompt comes up for me. So for anybody that reads this comment, if you tried shift f10 you need to hold the function key shift and f10 and it should work. It work for me on a pre-built Lenovo yoga. 6.

What steps should you take when your activation key is linked with your MS Account? So I logged in for setup, activated and updated then switched to Local Account and logged out. Is that enough or should I take further steps? I refuse to log in to Edge also.

One thing I noticed when I fresh installed Windows 11 on a new laptop was that it completely skipped the MS account login screen when it didn’t recognize any network drivers installed. So it was a similar situation as ending that task.

In the past I was about to start commenting in favor of linux for freedom or such. But today I predict that all these "software as a service" schemes will naturally push more and more people to linux since it is becoming a problem that majority of commercial software is slowly transitioning to this "service" schemes either by spying on you, serving ads or monthly subscriptions. Linux will remain the only island where traditional "install and use forever" software will remain. Maybe with less features or clunky as linux can be, but still last way of keeping control over your PC and data.

Linux is like avalanche, once enough people jump on it then it will start to get more support, get better even faster, and thus the avalanche effect. Proprietary software companies like Microsoft have done active trashing of Linux for a long time, and thus the myth of toxic Linux community prevails. When it's one of the best communities out there, as every single new user benefits the whole community and thus people are really helpful. Obviously in any group of millions of people there are the rotten apples, but the amount of those people is tiny AF and irrelevant.

valve has kinda of thrown their hat in the ring with their linux based steam os.. gabe has said before hes concerned of Microsofts control of the pc OS market.. people are incredibly naïve if they think the spying is/will be limited to advertising.. i guarantee you that there is already a quasi social credit score system in operation behind the scenes.. its only a matter of time before Microsoft join the rest of big tech in censorship and de-platforming

@@awakeandwatching953 Don't assume conspiracy where incompetence, laziness or corporate greed provides a better explanation ;). Just like when I start talking about kids topics close to my phone I will soon get ads for baby cradles, I would more expect that Russians are simply buying from google and Microsoft some sketchy ad keywords using credit card online (e.g. no shady deals in car garage in middle of the night) and then serve you ads for extreme left and extreme right sites in order to spread polarization in society where social unity is detrimental to their plans.
Hidden "credit" score system would require competent people, and and as such unlikely ;) Besides, we already have a working social credit score system in a form of every HR department checking your social media profile before interview to check if you are not a complete jackass posting drunk pictures with pants down every weekend or talking nonsense about microchips in vaccines in posts. Good enough.
EDIT: Yeah, your "quasi social credit score" system triggered my anti-conspiracy button here.
