    • UPDATE Meta Quest Bric...
    Meta has confirmed the issue of headsets being bricked and suggests users try holding the power button for 45 seconds to see if that revives their bricked headsests.
    Based on user reports it seems likely update V72 did not play well with old firmware versions and was causing a fatal fail state when trying to update Quests that hadn't been updated for several versions.
    To be safe you may want to temporarily turn off automatic updates on your Quest to prevent a brick situation. Here's my guide on how to do that • Meta Quest Update BRIC...

    If you or someone you know has been impacted by this drop a comment below to let us know what happened. If you have heard of any potential resolutions please also drop me a comment but BE CAREFUL attempting any suggested resolutions. Meta will likely have an official resolution soon and if you do something that damages your headset more, the official resolution may not work.

      The firmware version V72, which is the problem, no longer installs automatically. Now you get the V71 version with updating. I have updated a new Q3 and an old Q2. Both are on V71 firmware.

      I got mine a few weeks ago and I’m on the newest update with no issues. I heard somewhere that the ones that are bricking are quests with older updates that are making a big leap to the new one.

    I unpacked my Quest 3 around mid December, not Christmas and got the v71 update. Then a couple of days later, I had gotten the v72 update with the new hand tracking and its worked fine. They should probably having rolling updates, letting you do it in stages rather than 1 giant one, but it is what it is. I can report mine works fine, I hope you guys get yours to work fine too.

    turning off automatic updates doesnt turn off updates entirely the headset will try to update when you power off the device even when the setting is off

    I read a comment in a facebook group where a lady claimed she had the boot loop issue and was able to use the phone app to update her headset and it worked. That might be something for folks to try. I have a Quest 2 that I have had for a while and I have no issues but I turned off updates until list resolved to be safe.

      @@Devedander I wish I could help more. If I recall correctly I think she did specify she had a Quest 2 but I did not initially say that because I read a lot of posts about the issue and I may be confusing that with another post but I do recall she claimed that was her fix. I tucked that in the back of my head.

    The unit i have is a 512 Meta Quest 3 0ctober 2023. I have kept it regularly updated with "public release channels" as developer enabled. I only had minor freezing and black screens. where i confirm holding down the power button over 45 seconds "reboots the device after freezing". Worst case scenario if it is completely stuck, you can always go into recovery mode and "factory reset". doing these steps.
    Press and hold the Volume (-) and Power buttons simultaneously until the boot-up screen appears.
    Release the buttons and use the Volume controls to navigate to “Factory Reset” and select it.
    Confirm the reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
    use the power button to use as a confirm button.

    • @adhdvolcano
      @adhdvolcano 3 дня назад +2

      do NOT factory reset. please. so so so many people (hundreds) have confirmed that "factory resetting" the headset bricks it PERMANENTLY. no charging, no light, no screen, nothing. a true solid brick. please do NOT factory reset it!!!

    First of all, thanks for the information, but I have a few questions. So you said that units, which jump from an older to the newest update may have those issues, but what are you gonna do about it? I have v68 currently installed on my quest 3 and first wanted to update to the v71, until I saw this information. About one or two months ago I wanted to install the newest update, but it felt suspiciously long, so I aborted it. So, do you think I'm save to update from v68 to 71, or is that jump way to high? And if it is to high, what should I do? Because it's difficult to install e.g. v69 and then 71, isn't it?
