I've fallen in love with Carcass Hellion lately. She's so good at locking down the first two ranks that it can let your team whittle them down or nuke the backline.
And I haven't got it yet, but the stone mount trinket (horse statue) that turns block into block + feels like it would make her damn near invincible.
I also love Carcass Hellion. I'll often run her with Leper for a self-sustaining frontline that locks down the enemy frontline with taunts and debuffs. I just love how unkillable you become.
You just need a backline that can reliably take out one target in the back.
I've had the oppertunity to try out that trinket on Carcass and it is as rediculous as you imagine.
Something I really like about Carcass is that she starts at full speed, so she can get an early taunt down before the enemies start attacking, where as other tanks are slow so a few swipes go through on Turn 1. Also, a nice stress control combo I like with Revelry is Flag's Endure.
@@esb422 Another good interaction for her speed is Adrenaline Rush.
Carcass is pretty much always the slowest after turn one, so if she needs to pop adrenaline rush it sort of works around the issue of clearing out her winded a bit. Because next turn she gets to act much faster, the window where she isnt generating new block tokens is actually pretty small.

@@ShuffleFM My act 3 win was a lot more harrowing, my whole team died except the hellion who survived 4 death door checks and managed do deal enough damage for the win thanks to the blood.
Ravager Hellion and Vanguard Man-at-arms is my favourite frontline in the game, it's such an excellent combination of destructive power and survivability.
I _think_ the idea with Berserker Hellion and slotting both Bleed Out of If It Bleeds is that you're intended to use a frontliner that dances between 2 and 1 for her. Frontline Runaway with Dragonfly/Ransack, Frontline HWM with Duelist's Advance/Point-Blank Shot, that sort of thing would be my assumption. And then Bloodlust is your Winded Cure tool
Doing this with rogue HWM is pretty good but using HWM upfront really restricts your backline options
Tried that, it sucks. You have to be very careful with what skills you use on your Highwayman (because let's face it, you're not using Runaway for this) and still you're almost never in the position to use the skill you want anyway.
Just today beat act 5 today with runaway (arsonist) - occultist (ritualist) - man at arms (vanguard) - hellion (ravager) and it was so much fun! Massive thanks to you shuff for all the guides, they definitely helped!

I've had a very funny time running both bleed skills on Berserker alongside a rank 1-2 dance character, specifically I was using a MAA with rampart and retreat
The power of Adrenaline Rush and her Berserker Bleeds combined let her solo the entirety of the Act 4 boss' last leg. I went in blind, lost the three other heroes during the first ⅔, and then just went on a Bleed Out / Adrenaline Rush / Raucous Revelry cycle to keep her off Death's Door while the boss took 20+ bleed per turn. It was great.
I’ve tested a lot of quirks with her, and my favorite for non-Stygian is Bloodthirsty / Deadly because typically she’s a pure damage dealer. Defiant is also great because it keeps her at low health without dying which gives her a 50% damage boost.
However, for Stygian Breacher is the best because “Shuffle” can be devastating for certain classes. Breacher Ensures she’s always where she needs to be, in rank 1, and she gets a starting damage & defense boost.
Breakthrough is a terrible movement skill & Toe-to-Toe locks her in place for a turn, meaning a shuffle to rank 4 could mean the entire run.
I really like to pair her with the runaway. The runaway can put the 2 combo tokens on the front enemies that the hellion wants to use with YAWP!, and also easily heal her because of Ravager's self bleed. Also, Hellion has the quick damage that the runaway lacks.

My fiance makes teams comps based on design over function. Her main team is Ravager Hellion, Tempest Leper, Virtuoso Jester and Surgeon Plague Doctor. She loves Hellion the most and just knocked out Act 2 last night.

Loving this channel, and psyched to see someone do a guide for Hellion that isn't just "ravager go brr." Sure, it does go brr, but fun tho!
Whenever this game comes out on Xbox series X and PS5, I think carcass is the path I’m most interested in using. Since I can use her for tanking instead of leper or man at arms. I’d probably pair carcass with alchemist PD for blight damage or surgeon for higher melee damage and boosted healing. Then sharpshot highwayman to hit comboed rank 4 enemies and virtuoso jester to both give big stress heals to other teammates when needed as well as apply combo to enemies in range of carcass hellion.
If howling end worked inversely with winded that might be a bit interesting. It would give a max winding build and min winded build

The problem with carcass for me is that once you reach 3 winded tokens, you literally go to deal 0 damage. Like, at least the other tanks do some damage that is not just a bit of bleed.
i actually had the cultist trinket that gives dmg buffs per negative token on Ravager. I am not sure what the other trinket was (it was my first try trying Shambler Spawn and if i recall correctly it was the one that gives you 200 % dmg at the start and then declines 30 % per round), but her Howling End dmg went through the roof. The trinket with the negative tokens turns Toe to Toe into a get a 20 % dmg buff.
One thing I kinda missed in the video is that Hellion doesn't really use tokens. Unlike most other characters, even other DPS, she doesn't generate strength or crit tokens, nor does she have a way to really combat enemy block and dodge. She just kinda has to power through them. She cannot vulnerable or even combo by herself. You mentioned this when talking about Vestal as a partner for her, but imo the thing Hellion wants most in general is a partner who can "prepare" her target of choice for her. Runaway Smokescreen and Occultist hexes are a good way of making sure the big Howling End on turn 1/2 counts, to get it past kill tresholds with more certainty, so you don't have to worry about those 2-3 turns it takes Howling End to come online again.
Otherwise, excellent video as always, Shuff! I clearly need to play more non-Ravager. It's still too easy sometimes.
How to play Hellion:
1) Put Hellion on team
2) All enemies die immediately due to the sight of her muscles
3) Win
Perfect logic
Having done several runs with ravager hellion, I've found selfish motivation (+damage per negative token stained trinket) to be one of if not her best trinket, especially in combination with a Jester. Every time I find it, it's basically a free win. With it, Toe to Toe gives a free +150% damage buff and with Encore you can ensure Howling End follows it up before an enemy can attack and remove taunt. Since Toe to Toe goes first, you can also clear a defensive token before Howling End fires. It's pretty common to end up knocking even two slot enemies to death's door before they can even act.
At the same time, since Hellion is frequently taunting, she accrues plenty of debuffs which ends up working in her favor. Plus, weak gets completely negated. The only debuff that truly hurts is blind, but she can still Toe to Toe or use combat items to help clear it without hurting her turn economy too much. You also don't need to play very risky keeping her at low health since the damage bonus for doing so ends up being rather minor when she has 3+ debuffs.
Interestingly enough you missed imo one of her best trinkets. The sweater that you can get from the leviathan that buffs both her bleed and move resist WHILE ADDING A HEAL ON BLEED RESIST AND A STRESS HEAL ON MOVE RESIST is litteraly tailored for her (get it?). She litteraly doesn't need anything else because objectively her best path is Ravager and every turn start she virtually heals 10%. It not only covers her weaknesses but makes her stronger FOR them. That said, she is far from a favourite of mine because it feels that other frontliners are just better and in this game it feels like she struggles with her identity a bit or at least that's what it feels like to me.
I had this on her once and it was hilarious. Bandits poking her for 3 dmg and she heals for 5 resisting bleed each time xD Poor bastards were literally healing her for 2 hp with their knives

1000+ hours in this game and I never knew that Hellion gets more damage at low hp. LMAO
I sometimes like to run hellion in 2 as berserker with hack, if it bleeds, howling end, adrenaline rush, and revelry plus hope to find her rotten tomato trinket. I normally run her with leper in 1 (i have bias for leper over MoA from DD1) and Dimas + PD in 3 and 4 since i don't have iron swan for the backline. is it the most effective? maybe not, but hellion has always been my favorite darkest dungeon character and I love to use her anytime I can
Should Carcass helion give you the winded token at the end of your turn instead of the start?

Don’t know if it’s worth pointing out because MAA is good with everyone, but having him guard Hellion lets you keep her at really low hp without having to worry about her getting killed.
Probably best to have MAA in rank 3-4 in that case, since a lot of common enemies (evangelist) have 1-2 cleave
a question: you have a good trinket in your recollection( you abtained it in previous expediton), how you can use it when you need it? Is it random?
Total random. Although depending on the trinket, it might spawn in a certain area more, or only drop from cultist enemies, or etc. So while you can’t guarantee the trinket you want, you can at least help narrow it down by knowing where it can spawn

If It Bleeds not being usable in rank 1 is criminal. It singlehandedly takes Berserker from mediocre to garbage. What's the point of the Hellion having a bleed-focused path if she she can't even access both of her bleed skills from the same position?
This game needs more bleed options in general. I petition for the Houndmaster to be the next hero.

There's a tab in the character sheet that is a diamond called "conditions" and it's in there. Not intuitive at all and totally obscure.
When hellion goes under half and 25% you can check her buffs mid battle and see it too.
How do you get the skins ?
Once you unlock all the heroes in the altar, you can go to the mountain section and buy skins :)

Berserker seems like it's missing something to make it great IMO. Maybe allow +1 without mastery/+2 with mastery for bleed skills because without the Leviathan trinket she seems really lackluster for bleed focus. She can barely keep up with PD in DoT and even then only in rank one.
I just think that if she could use her full bleed kit at all times, berserker would be a very good path, I think the fact that you can only use 1 bleed skill at a time based on positioning is what's holding berserker back.
If berserker got extra bleed amount on top of the res piercing that would be a bit too OP.
@@LokiDragon123 I wouldn't mind "if it bleeds" being accessible in rank 1/2 but dropping rank 3 for Berserker. But to add +1/+2 bleed would just put "if it bleeds" to be in-line with PD's "noxious blast" (3 without mastery and 6 with mastery) but with different target ranks. Granted, it would make "bleedout" nutty, but keep in mind it can only target enemy rank 1 and causes winded as a drawback. Berserker would just be a frontline bleeder on par with Alchemist PD in that case which I don't think would be game-breaking. I'd also retool her branch trinket because with my proposed changes it would make "bleedout" broken.

Carcass is not good imo, the sacrifice in damage in such a damage race of a game is too much and it sometimes feels like you're fighting with 3 heroes instead of 4. It can be good in small fights, but for the bulk of the game, especially the difficult parts, she falls flat with this subclass.

howling end feels so much worst when it can't bypass block which a lot of enemies in rank 1 and 2 have if their healthpool is greater than one shot of wicked hack.
