Hi Dave. Mixing Eu and GB Domestic is a minefield. It certainly can be done, but if it is doesn't cause you any inconvenience, running the driver on EU at all times makes remaining compliant far easier for the driver and for the company.

Hi, firstly, great video! I work for an electricity company not employed as a lorry driver, however, I drive lorries as part of my role. I never or if ever it is very rare that I drive for more than 4 hours a day. Do I need to record my driving hours at all? My duty time regularly exceeds 11 hours due to emergencies. Thanks in advance

Hi @jordanfield5975. Thanks for the compliment, hope it has been helpful. With the information you have given, you may not need to keep records of your driving records, however you will still need to record your working time records. There are 3 questions to ask yourself. 1. Are you driving in scope of operator licensing? (yes). 2. Do you drive more than hours on that particular day? (no). 3. Do you drive outside a 50km radius of the vehicle's operating centre on that particular day? If your answer to point 3 is NO, then you do not need to keep any record of your driving for that day. If your answer to point 3 is YES, you legally do need to keep records of your driving for that day. Please bear in mind that company policies may override the rules. Hope that helps to clarify.

Hi Mark, we are upgrading our old 7.5t wagon that is a analog tacho to a new one that has a digi. The couple of lads we employ don’t have digital cards because they have their 7.5t on grandfather rites. We are now looking to see if we fall in to the domestic hours rules as we are a groundwork’s company that only moves our own materials for our own jobs. Only really compute too and from site and don’t work out of a 50km radius. Do we fall in the domestic rules? It would be easier for us to just get the lads log books to record their working day. Do we have to notify anyone that we are working under the gb domestic hours?

@@NTPOnlineLearning how can company policy override the rules???? Surely the law is the law.

So if I was to work 3 days as bus driver under domestic rules and one day under eu rules as a lorry driver (class 1 or 2) would I just record the bus driving work as other work for the 3 days?
Obviously start the eu shift 9 or 11 hours after finishing the domestic shift?
      Would this be correct?

As well as the HGV job, never really exceeding eu driving time, but is mainly under WTD for shifts

    If I take 3x15 minute breaks, can I work 11:45 ?

Hi, the 3 x 15 minutes are breaks and not classed as working time. You would not be working more than the 11 hours, just that the 11 hours you are working would be spread over an 11 hour 45 minute period. Hope that makes sense.
