  • Here is an actual video of replacing the switch. Every video I've found had been someone talking about replacing it, showing you the new part, then telling to how to do it. Im a visual learner.
    Thanks guys.

Awesome video. Thank you for doing this, I'd about to do the same thing to my blazer, and this helps a ton.

Is it possible that one side of brake lights work and the dont with a bad switch

Try just replacing the bulb. The filaments for brake/signal and tail lights are on separate filaments in the bulbs for these vehicles. (Source: didn't know how dual filament bulbs worked and spent waaayy too much time overthinking the problem)

In addition to @CeyWhen's answer, just use your turn signals to check the filament - if the "brake light bad side" rear turn signal operates correctly, it's not the bulb, and not the brake switch.
Sadly, the next likely culprit is the multi-function (stalk) switch, which can be a real bear to replace (connector is way up on the firewall) - so if you're going to do it, do the ignition switch at the same time "just because".
Why do I say that? Because the circuit control of brake/left/right is ALL in that stalk switch, and both column switches have a 20-25 year lifespan it seems. The switches themselves are easy to swap - it's the column trim covers and the firewall pasthrough connector that are the hard parts.
      P.S. Here's a guy that had the identical problem -- gives details I didn't.

Do not replace!! Just clean. Simple and $ saver. 5 clips and opens.

With great difficulty. It helps if you're 3' tall and made out of rubber.
