Just had upper and lower control arms, bushings, ball joints, idler arm and an axle shaft replaced on my "Baby Blazer" last week, today I noticed that the LED for the 2Hi was not lit, I then tried 4Lo and 4Hi, they weren't doing anything, my anxiety kicked in, I was dreading the thought of calling the owner of the auto repair shop. I found your video and tried the key cycling tip, then started the engine and tried the buttons again, they all worked normally as they're supposed to. Thank you! Really appreciate your post. 👊😎
Dude thanks so much. I ran my truck this morning and 4x4 worked great. Parked for about 2 hrs then went back out to find no 4x4 and we are getting a bad snow storm today. So i managed to limp to a safe spot to park and found your video. Did the 5 cycle of the switch and wala. 4x4 again. I owe you a cold beer my friend. You saved me a big tow bill and possibly more lol. Thanks again
Kevin C I just fixed my 4x4 not engaging. I got a clue when my HVAC would not switch from top to bottom vent, that's a vacuum leak. Sure enough opened the hood and could hear vacuum hiss. Main hose coming off the manifold under the throtle body was almost completely broken. I shortened the hose 1" and connected it. No hiss, HVAC and 4X4 all work.
He saves my butt too. I could hear everything trying to work after I replaced some dry rotted vacuum lines but still had the blinking lights. Cycled the key 5 times and started the truck and Bam 💥 works like a charm! Thanks so much!! You the man!
Do you have diagram of vacuum line routing? Especially on drivers side, where there is 2 T's. Mine had rotted tubing & loose lines. Don't know where some of em hook up! Any help is appreciated, ....thanx!
😮today i was suprised trying to fix my 4x4 but almost everything was broken for a reason but aaw your video its awesome in so many ways that i was even able to fix my colorado which was in my garage not moved for about 3 months
Yeah, This video helped me big time. I needed reassurance to know that the 2HI button is supposed to stay lit up. Mechanism is all outta whack right now. I'm hearing a whirring/grinding noise when I'm driving in 2HI, especially in reverse. Gawdamn that noise is bad.... But get this, when I disengage the 2HI, NO LIGHTS are on at all, (all button lights are off), throw it in reverse, and the grinding sound disappears....so now, I'm highly confused to what the hell is going on. But I needed to make sure again I was imagining things when the 2HI is supposed to be lit up, with NO abnormal NOISE as I'm driving. Thanks again, now I know for sure my transfer case is jacking up on me.
Thank you for your video i have a question about why your abs and brake light is on when your truck is running i have a 2003 blazer some time my brake light and abs light come on and most time i turn ignition off and restart it then most time lights will not come back on any advice would be appreciated thank you for reading my comment
So I have a question, when I turn my truck on the light on my 2 high comes on but if I press any of my four wheel drive buttons they flash once but go back off, but on the right side of my passenger floor board I can hear the computer click when I press four wheel drive but the truck never goes into four wheel drive, could this be the transfer case motor
i think i have the same problem, no lights at all and pushing the button don't activate anything, where is the fuse located, checked the driver side interior fuse panel and in the engine bay, all good. even opened up the switch to see if the sodering was damaged (was not)
I have a 2000 chevy s10, the 4x4 works and it locks in but it takes a few minutes of pushing the bottons until it'll finally locks in, what could give it difficulty locking in but not completely stop it from locking in
Jeff Anderson if it was a vacuum leak it would lock in by it's self, I had a 99 that would do that, the vacuum would get so low it would let the hubs try and lock out,
Need a little help with a place to start guys. 02 -s-10 with a 4.3 vortec. 4x4 will engage in low, but not in high even though when I press the high button it lights up. It's odd. Thnx for any help.
Did you guys figure out the issue of 4lo only? I bought a 04 s10 and when I bought it it would engage 4lo and not hi. I got the truck home and just pushed the 4hi button repeatedly and it engaged. Took it for a drive and got back in my drive. Put it in 2hi and now it does nothing. It will not go into 4lo or hi. I cannot hear the transfer engage at all. I did pop the switch out of the dash just to see if something was wonky but looks fine. All lights work but nothing happens beside I hear the clicking from the tccm (or whatever it's called on the passenger side) Checked the Actuator under the battery and it's good. Put a little air into the system to listen for leaks but I only hear a valve that is supposed to leak if it is pressurized for the transmission.
'97 Blazer..replaced the following: Transfer case vacuum switch, vacuum actuator and cable, dash 4-wheel indicator switch, also found a bad vacuum line...still no 4-wheel drive..no indicator lights on at all with key on.help!
I have a 98 jimmy 4x4. The system works but the 4hi light doesn't always stay on. I have to tap it a few times for it to stay on. I took the switch out and it doesn't look like the led is loose and I also cleaned the contacts. Any ideas why the light is being a little bitch?
The light is supposed to come on to confirm your front differential is actually engaged. The truck shifts the transfer case into 4WD, the transmission can shift differently too thinking its in 4WD, but your front vacuum operated differential actuator probably isn't engaging the differential.
I have a chevy2000 s10 pickup. The 4×4 module locks in but the front axle doesn't turn, you can feel the transmission in a lower gear but still no movement. looking for information that might help me. Thanks,Larry.
Larry Jackson sounds to me like your transfer case and shift motor is working properly. I believe there is a vacuum actuator on that year usually under the battery. You'll want to Check to see if it's getting vacuum when its supposed to. If it is, the cable that the vacuum actuator pulls could be tight.
@@Pyro17059 Thanks it`s a 2002 Blazer found 1 vacuum line off at canister put it back on I`m going to check ground under battery next day also took plug off box right side look okay put it back on still no light on 4x4 on dash all 3 of them thanks
Remove the passenger side floor panel. Inside you'll find a electrical box, unplug the connector to it and clean the all contacts . Reinstall the contact plug. And try your 4 wd system. Hope this helps
Nah man, this one is a GMC but some models of the S10, Blazer, Jimmy, and Sonoma are in some ways very similar I think. A lot of fixes for one can be found by searching the issue with the other car I found
None of my lights on the switch come on at all and you cant hear nothing working. i haven't got a damn clue what it is. I can't find anything that tells me how to test the switch.
@doncarr5874 What you'll need is a wiring diagram to get started. Without that it will be hard to test with any kind of purpose. It's been quite awhile since I've had to diagnose one of these so I can't really help without looking it all up myself. Could always get a switch from the junkyard and play swaptronics to help rule it out. What year are you working on?

Why do you say to cycle it ?

It's because anytime you change the 4 wheel drive or 2 when you should be in neutral. At all times.
While it's true neutral is a good idea, it's not required for shift on the fly systems, nor did it have anything to do with this issue.
Being in Neutral IS required when shifting from 2wd or 4wd Hi to 4 Low@@Pyro17059

It's very possible yes.
For me the courtesy light fuse was popped so it wouldn't let the 4x4 switch work

How to get the wires out of the fuse box 2:35
Your truck needs to be running to produce vacuum 1st!!
Macktruck71 it has a vacuum reserve...plus, the switch should still operate the transfer case motor. Vacuum is only used for the front differential.
How did you get the kick plate off that houses the control module?
'97 Blazer..replaced the following: Transfer case vacuum switch, vacuum actuator and cable, dash 4-wheel indicator switch, also found a bad vacuum line...still no 4-wheel drive..no indicator lights on at all with key on.help!

So is that like a shift servo for the transfer case?

blueknight not really sure. If the truck does indeed stay in 4wd when the light acts up, it's almost gotta be a loose connection within the switch.
The light is supposed to come on to confirm your front differential is actually engaged. The truck shifts the transfer case into 4WD, the transmission can shift differently too thinking its in 4WD, but your front vacuum operated differential actuator probably isn't engaging the differential.

i wonder if this unit being bad can also cause a battery drain issue?
Possibly yes
