....tears, what a great, beautiful, touching and emotional true story! I remember this man! I am now 53 years old and I watched all those games of the classic 70's and 80's! I am still a Minnesota Viking fan, since 69'...Mr. Leigh was on that Miami team that beat us in 73' Super Bowl coming off that perfect season! This is truly a touching story...God bless'.
Much respect to Charlie Leigh for being a rolemodel for others, giving back to his community and never forgetting where he came from.i wish more people were like him nowadays.R.I.P. big man
velvetice100 I know, right?! This video they are looking and acting so humble and nice but on “Paternity Court” they acted out horribly except the youngest son who looked like he didn’t want to be there. He may have done okay playing football but he wasn’t a family. This video didn’t tell his whole life, though. It’s on Wikipedia If you really want to know the truth about his life after football.
Respect to him being a father figure to his outside of the marriage children. Just saw his family on Paternity Court. One of the defendants was his biological son the other wasn't unfortunately 😔
Ayo! Check out his great nephew Xavier Leigh Troy High School. He will be a senior this fall. When you see him run, you will see uncle Charlie "tinky" Leigh reincarnated with added millennial strength. Check out his Huddle page
I know Charles is disgusted and rolling over in his grave if the way his children treated Patrick. Shame on them, they truly ruined his legacy I was a fan until I saw the type of children he had…
Some of those modern looking buildings shown at the video's beginning (including Albany High School) weren't built yet when Charlie Lee was attending an older Albany High School (that didn't even have it's own football field). He was an assistant football coach and a hall monitor when I attended Albany High in the late 1970s. He was very quiet but friendly. I remember him handing me towels in the locker room after gym and team practices. His huge Super Bowl rings were impossible to miss.
I wonder how many potential superstars the NFL has missed out on over the years, by almost entirely overlooking anyone and everyone who hasn't gone to college. People with raw talent and true passion are everywhere, not just in college. The hard part is trying to find them, which results in most NFL-scouts taking the "easy approach", by only focusing on college players. But don't get me wrong. Focusing on college players is definitely the smartest thing to do, or at least the safest. I mean, to even have a chance of finding an amazing player elsewhere you'd have to spend copious amounts of time and a lot of resources on non-college scouting, which would be very risky given how rare Charlie Leigh type players are.
As a someone who played college ball, that's a very easy question to answer... The difference between the speed, football knowledge, and power of the hits you take from high school to college ball is insurmountable, let alone high school to the NFL. The strongest/smartest high school player in the country couldn't take a hit in the NFL or come close to any NFL player in a test of general football knowledge. Being born with it isn't enough once you get to college, you have to know the game and have to learn how to get hit so hard that a normal person could die. All in all, itd be a huge waste of time to look at anyone who hasn't played college ball
@ Hayden Cook Yep!!! It’s called development ( physical, n mental). Even this guy didn’t go straight to the league He played 3 yrs in new league that was trying to compete with the NFL, n AFL. NFL commish, Pete Rozelle made a special one time only provision for the guy.
... then there’s the off field stuff too. I mean this guy had a lot going on. (family was on an episode of paternity court) Also the money issue. Could a kid handle it. ( sharks are waiting) Basically it’s a boy vs man thing. I Played Hs ball against a 10 yr nfl vet, (he was 6-5 280 ) in are Hs yrs, the mid to late 80’s. He reached a max of 320lbs in his nfl yrs, 1992-2003.
Wasn’t popular.... stadiums was always empty ( unless it was playoffs, or SB).... only a few good teams.... only played 14 games....only 3 networks 2 did Sunday games n playoffs 1 did Monday night....you could only watch the teams that were the closest to where you live....hardly any sponsors....no social media... but you could smoke cigarettes at your seat in the stadium, n inside airports
That would require being a student. If he wanted to attend college he probably would have before or after his pro sports career. Or even during. There's a current NFL player who earned his MD degree while playing in the NFL.
Not disrespect to the man, but you think he had his front teeth knocked out from playing without a mouthpiece of because he was Dipping in the devils dandruff?
This was super well done...newfound respect for someone I had no idea existed
Paternity court brought me here

I know Charles is disgusted and rolling over in his grave if the way his children treated Patrick. Shame on them, they truly ruined his legacy I was a fan until I saw the type of children he had…

he should've played for a college after retirement
Jimmy Vega - cant go back to play if you have played professionally
That would require being a student. If he wanted to attend college he probably would have before or after his pro sports career. Or even during. There's a current NFL player who earned his MD degree while playing in the NFL.
