    I don't know who the fella is, being in England, but he speaks from the heart without a doubt.

      Not really. Messing your life up and everyone else’s around you, and then asking forgiveness is not as strong as say, helping others.
      Addicts mess everything up, ruin everyone’s lives and we all have to stand around giving a round of applause when, once they’ve spent all their money and done the damage and lied and cheated and stole.
      9 times out of 10 the only reason they stop is because they run out of money or people turn their back on them. Until that happens they have no issues ruining everyone’s life because they “feel bad inside”

    Fair play to him for turning his life around .. it takes an awful lot of introspection and honesty to front up and admit to a weakness and an addiction. For all those commenting negatively here you could do with developing some empathy for others or at the very least some self introspection yourselves. This island is absolutely littered with functioning alcoholics and as a nation we are the facilitators ... Ireland has a very long way to go in terms of it's relationship with alcohol.

The lived experience is invaluable and You have that. Ppl with the lived experience should be included in any such addition awareness programmes that the GAA deliver. I advocate the same regarding disability.

    At times we can be shackled,
    To an addition that won't let go.
    Like a dam holding back a river,
    Our lives don't naturally flow.
    Held by our past,
    Unable to break the chain.
    Many times falling,
    Carrying so much pain.
    Only when pure in thought,
    And willing to share God's yoke.
    Will we be free to live again
    At last our shackles broke.

    It's a bit harsh to say that a pioneer could not help an addict. Everyone has some traumas in their lives, many different addictions and reasons to be depressed and so be on their own Sarsfield bridge. If the Irish were serious about alcohol or gambling there'would not be any form of advertising allowed, no slot machines anywhere and no sports sponsorship allowed from these businesses.

    • @YewrMan
      @YewrMan 3 месяца назад

      Banning advertising only creates more mystery around alcohol, drugs, porn, gambling etc. Need to take the advertisers money and create more awareness around the dangers of addiction and how some people, many of them sportspeople, drink responsibly. Gambling care are running a good campaign using GAA stars to talk about gambling addiction. Pushing it into the corner, not talking about it will only make it worse.

    This guy seems to be blaming Croke park for his own failings. The purpose of the GAA is to facilitate sport and games. They do this brilliantly. The purpose of individuals is to be good people and take some personal responsibility. He needs to look in the mirror rather than pointing the finger for his own behaviour. As we all should.

    • @conormcanespie1902
      @conormcanespie1902 3 месяца назад

      In what way is he blaming the gaa? He’s asking for a bit more awareness within the association with regards to people and their problems with alcohol. He’s spreading awareness. “Maybe I’m not wording this right” is what he said, why don’t you take that into consideration when you comment.

    • @EdwardCronin-p8v
      @EdwardCronin-p8v 3 месяца назад

      No he did not, he squarely put it on the GAA culture which persists in every club and he is correct. He simply said Croke Park are doing nothing to tackle the said culture and he rightly pointed out at lot of the GAA top brass are Pioneers so how could they understand this problem, never mind begin to tackle it. Interesting! Yet with alcoholics i have known, i have learnt to take most of what they say, with a pinch of salt! IMO one can believe nothing of what they say! Noels comments about people maybe could’ve helped him? In my experience the only person who can help the alcoholic is them selves. The self report here of lying, thieving, disrespecting, is often played out in grandious and self serving manner by the instigator. They know better than anyone about just about anything….if you ask them. Anyone trying to help them, just gets sucked into the selfish, vortex, that is their life. I say to friends/family, dont try “saving” them, it is a waste of time.
