    Great move Martin. Fitting solar has been one of the best mods I've made to my van, so many advantages and not that expensive. Catch you soon buddy.

      Hopefully it will be beneficial to us and keep that battery topped up. Might even go off grid one day!
      Cheers

    Good timing Martin mine has failed on 2014 swift. Bet I could use wiring already in place. Will wait for your next update before I get one. 👍

      Could you just replace the panel, would be cheaper.
      Thanks for watching

    Thanks again for your video Martin, we are lucky the caravan came with solar panel already fitted, but the one you have just fitted looks great, and nice and light, we are not the off grid type but you never know, maybe one day, just read your new tow car video maybe coming out end of October/ November, can’t wait for that one, we have just got a new tow car, but not showing you mine until you show me yours 😃, 👍👍.

      @TheCaravanNut  2 года назад +1

      Yes, can’t see us doing off grid for a while but you never know. Will see how this one performs. As for the tow car, didn’t want to do the vlog without having towed with it. Looking forward to hearing what you’ve got.
      Thanks for comments and support 😊

      Hi mate, it was after a conversation with you that I looked into the panel over heating but they assure me it’s not an issue anymore, will see how it goes. Cheers, Martin

      @@TheCaravanNut Hi mate, I'm glad you took the plunge. Looking forward to see what you think of it. My solar is still going well. My 240v battery charger is always off and the solar panel on the roof looks after my battery fine, not sure about winter, I was thinking about upgrading the solar controller to a Victron but I'm bringing my van home, speak soon 👍

    I've put a solar panel on the roof of cara. it's brilliant for keeping the battery topped up in storage. great vlog thanks. xx

      That’s mainly what we need it for, save bringing the battery home to charge.

    Hi Martin, you timed that right..we are looking at fitting an additional solar panel to our caravan as we plan to do a lot more off grid camping next year. We certainly will give these a look now as we were going to purchase the Sargent kit that will complement our current setup. Thanks again..great video as ever.. looking forward to your new car review 🤔😉.
    All the best Look Linda and Glenn.

      Hi Linda & Glenn, I like the idea of ‘off grid’ but yet to complete one. Think I would fit the other panel before looking at doing it.

    Good video Martin. I fitted a rigid 100w Renogy solar panel kit to our Bailey when we bought it, primarily as a means to keep the battery maintained when in storage. We have however used the van off grid in that time and found it to provide ample charge to the battery off grid. We are very happy with it and it was worth every penny. Hope you get in well with it👍🏼
    Alex

      100w should do the job ok, you are brave doing off grid. Still not plucked up the courage to do it yet, maybe one day.
      Thanks for comments and watching 😊

    Fitted a 150w rigid panel on the roof of my camper it’s fantastic for keeping the leisure battery topped up, off grid it manages to run the van including the fridge but struggles over night so we switch it off and keep door shut, we also have a factory fitted 100w panel on our caravan again works fantastic off grid but we run the fridge on gas, what it does mean when we are moving the van off the drive on the mover the battery is always full, I’m sold on solar 👍

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  Год назад

      Yep, solar is the future. We only use it to top the battery up whilst in storage. Does the job well. Thanks for comments and watching.

    As a newbie to caravan life , I went out and got a solar panel stuck the panel to the roof of the van with the sucker caps it come with then run the lead down the side of the van into the battery box and onto the battery terminals, I have a classic car and do exactly the same with that over winter just to keep the battery topped up, obviously it won’t keep the battery charged off grid but it’s ok for a trickle charge to the battery

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  2 года назад +1

      That will do the trick, I did a similar thing with a panel in the front window of the van but wanted something more permanent.
      Thanks for comments and watching.

    I am always secepticle of drilling holes in the roof for obvious reasons, but well done, job looks a good en.

      I was at first, but if you seal it well you won’t have any problems. Cheers

    What minimum size solar panel should be fitted to a caravan. I'd be looking to charge my battery through the winter.

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  2 года назад

      Thanks, not sure. I used to have a 50w panel in the front of the van and it worked well. I think you could get away with a 20w panel just to keep the battery topped up. Cheers

    Great job. I'd be nervous drilling through the roof. How was the panel stuck to the roof? I assume it's strong stuff? 👍

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  2 года назад +1

      The panel is stuck on with Sikaflex 522, strong stuff!

      Couldn’t remember so had a look at the video and it’s a red fuse which is 10amp. Hope that helps, cheers

    Hi Martin, nice Job, I think I noticed your battery strap may be fitted wrong as it looks like the strap is going round the battery if so the correct way is to have the battery in place then have both sides of the strap in front, this will prevent the battery moving forward should the battery door open.
    All the best 👍

    I bolted my flexi panel to 16mm Multiwall plastic sheet that I attached with sikaflex, so panel has an air gap and is more efficient.
    Then when panel needs replacing I just have to undo 4 locking nuts and not have the nightmare of pulling up a sikaflexed panel.

      I already had the drill bit, the gland covered the hole.

      It will probably be at the end of October early November, not towed with it yet so wanted to do that first before doing the vid. Cheers
