"Those panels are going to FLY off!" (according to the internet) - 3M VHB Tape

  • (NOT a sponsored post) According to the internet, they say the camper panels are going to completely fly off on the freeway. Therefore, I wanted to do a test on how much force is required to separate the panels once the tape has cured.
Conclusion: I don't think the wind can compete with a pry-bar.

VHB is used to hold the windows in on the Burj Khalifa. The tallest building in the world. She ain’t going anywhere.

We put this 3M tape on many military applications that have to pass MIL Spec. Shock Vibe testing to 810G and NAVY MIL-S-901 explosive testing for ships (literally detonating explosives to simulate direct impacts to ships of all sizes). You’ll be fine :).

  • @jessicataylor5001

Just so u all know the only 7 star hotel in the world uses a 3m tape that holds the siding to the building and has been proven to be so much stronger then rivots

  • @macdaddykwm1

So now put them outside and let them go through 1 year of freezing and hot weather and see how they do.

The moment you clamped them together to leave them for 24 hours, I knew it was going to work just fine. Your build is going to be awesome. I can’t wait to see it. Thanks for sharing.

The internet is full of people who spew forth absolute nonsense; it's almost a hobby for them, just like trolling is to some. I have plans to make a camper trailer using VHB to attach the aluminium panels; it took me less than 10 minutes research to know that it would be perfectly suitable. 3M are the World's best at what they do; making specialist tapes. Ignore the doubters, you won't regret using it.

  • @thomasfeiller2207

One problem I see in this comparison is that she is clamping the pieces together with a lot of force. Most of the applications I see are affixing a solar panel to a camper or trailer roof. You can't get anywhere near that amount of force in that situation. The people simply press down on the components. I'm about to install panels on my trailer and am debating the right implementation. I hate to drill holes in the roof but struggle to trust an adhesive. Will have to do some more research and some sort of test. We also need to acknowledge the heat up then cool down cycle which typically has a strong impact on adhesives. This test does not address this. Thumbs up. Like your sense of humor... "gotta keep 'em separated"... I'm always quoting that song in situations like this.

    Thats not 5952

  • @AlexGarcia-ur9dy

All you had to do is hold them out the window while going down the interstate and they would have instantly separated. Lol

Premium Euro adventure truck and camper builders use that same tape on steel, glass and aluminum panels all the time on vehicles that ACTUALLY do remote desert, jungle and forest camping without issue, Fear not and continue. You're good.

Great video! I think people are mistaken because if anything the worry of panels "flying off" should be placed on the event of an actual crash or accident. People should just roll down the window when driving at 60 mph and stik their hand out in an horizontal position, that would give them a sense of the stress the wind is putting on the panels.

  • @ProductsChannel

This first ever video I've watched of yours. Very cool. I just subscribed to it. Keep up the good work. I had bought some 3M tape and was looking up videos of it.

This blows my mind. Saw a post of yours on Reddit and went to "google" it and this RUclips video came up and I made the connection. Subscribed!

We decided to use the LLPT VHB tape to attach the ACM skin on our teardrop build too, the stuff is crazy sticky, reduces the need for holes in the build. Great Video.
