    I am reminded of during the regular season where Hellebuyck had a shot go off his mask so hard that it ripped his helmet right off. Officials didn't blow the play dead and the opposition scored but they are blowing a play dead from getting hit by a puck. The quality of officiating is brutal in the NHL right now doesn't matter what team you cheer for.

      I remember that play too. There was also a play about 10 years ago where the Bruins were playing Tampa and Tuukka Rask lost the blade of his skate. Rask yelled at the refs to stop play, but they didn't, and the Lightning scored on the play.
      However, if a goalie loses his helmet, play has to be stopped IMMEDIATELY. Hellebuyck and the Jets got screwed on that play.

      My argument too. I'm an Oiler fan and I've seen my share of ref moments famously that pad grab by Kessler in 2017, but this year I've lost a lot of love for hockey, especially in the playoffs. I just don't understand what reference point the refs have. Like we see boarding after boarding call ignored, several horribly missed calls including the high sticks on Hughes and Hyman. There was a too many men call missed on a Vancouver goal, etc. Specifically in game two, the game starts with Nurse boarding Peterson, no call. We also saw at least 30 crosschecks by both teams. We then see the first call that game being a weak stick infraction. Then the next game Draisatl gets called for an interference barely even considered in the regular season, and then see several hits after way more egregious not called. There's no consistency, and because of that every penalty called seems unprecedented and uncalled for. It's dangerous for players, frustrating for fans, and just hurts the league so much. For the first time I'm considering switching leagues and watching Pwhl

      Shots can go off mask, but if one of the buckles come loose or the mask fails then by the rules the play is whistled dead

      If a ref sees that a shot injures a goalie (neck/collarbone/head area usually), they are to blow the whistle right then to stop play. That ref blew that whistle real quick bc for a split second it looked like Bob was hurting in the neck area from the shot. A split second. Really quick whistle

      And the goaltender interference goal that was allowed the last game, shouldn’t have.
      And as cliche as it is, nobody can deny that the officiating has benefited one team over the other in this series. I don’t care what team it is, it can be a team that I hate for all I care, I want fair and balanced officiating over anything else. If a bad call was going to benefit my favourite team, I would prefer a good call instead. Hockey is a game, and the game is no fun if it’s not fair. Not for the players playing it. Not for the fans watching it. If one team wins due to bad, biased, preferential officiating, I consider it a loss for the entire league.

    Walking into this game, Florida had over 20 power-play opportunities in the first four games to Boston’s maybe 10 you’re looking at two times as many power-play opportunities for Florida. You can say what you want, but has been tilted towards Florida and it’s very obvious goals have been called goals have been allowed shouldn’t have been allowed. Hit the nail on the head was bringing up the issue with the sucker punch. but it’s obvious how tilted the series is bad and they say it’s lazy that the Bruins are blaming the reps. It’s really not because it’s obvious and it’s not just Bruins fans saying that there’s a lot of other fans of other teams saying the same thing.

    It appears that the only safe play around the crease is to push or crosscheck the opposing player into the goalie. Then you can score into an empty net. If that doesn't work then just hold the player and push him into the goalie to draw the interference call on the potential goal scorer. Officiating in the Bruins Panthers series is a dumpster fire.

    The rule that best sums up the NHL regulations for me is the “if high sticking draws blood it’s a double minor”. That arbitrary nature of rule application can be found all over the place. You can have an insanely bad hit that could crack you jaw WITHOUT drawing blood, or have a tiny scratch that does. Why the mere presence of blood makes it a double minor baffles my mind.

    • @thatonewriter8043
      @thatonewriter8043 19 дней назад +1

      And yet, Connor McDavid is above that rule anyway, or Quinn Hughes is an exception. The refs are awful all over the place. I hate it so much.

    • @Moobeus
      @Moobeus 19 дней назад

      @@thatonewriter8043 yes I agree but I’m saying this is emblematic of the way NHL rules are written. They need to decide whether it’s the action OR the consequences that determines the penalty. For example on the goal tender interference, part of it seems to be action based “if the goal tender is blocked in anyway”, but part of it is also consequence based “if it prevents the goalie from making a save”. They need to definitively decide one way or the other cause right now everything seems to be up to ref discretion even in cases where the rules are clearly “x is a penalty” like you mentioned with the McDavid Hughes thing. But because there is some grey area for some rules I think refs don’t actually understand when their discretion is required, so it should be removed entirely. High stick should always be just a minor, goal tender interference should result in a no goal whether or not it seems like it actually materially impacted the ability to make a save. Cross checking needs to always just be called regardless of consequences. This is the only way to make it fair and to remove ref bias.
      The worst is roughing because it seems to be completely up to the individual ref what is considered roughing. The fact that nothing between Bertuzzi and Marchand was called roughing in that game is a perfect example, plenty of other games where refs called very similar things roughing. I think if two players , neither of which have puck possession, make contact more than one time (so more than a bump/shove) that should automatically be roughing on the aggressor, or both of them if they are both antagonistic. Also, the NHL really needs to institute retroactive penalties. In cases like the Sam Bennet head punch of Marchand or the McAvoy takedown of Matthews or your example of McDavid high sticking Hughes, when they are reviewed during the game and it’s so blatantly obvious the call was missed, just award the power play at that moment, what does it matter it’s a few minutes later it doesn’t effect anything. The team should have had a penalty give them one.

    For the clear mistakes I am hoping we get AI refs However, in order for even that to work the NHL has to decide what goaltender interference is. We don't a repeat of the zero tolerance skate in the crease rule of 1998-99 that seemed to be changed during overtime of game six that year.
    For the Bennett play (and not the one where he punches Marchand in the head and gets away with it) he (lightly) cross-checks Charlie Coyle into Swayman that has to at least be a disallowed goal, if not a penalty (I, myself, don't think it warrants a penalty, just a whistle), as this removed Coyle from being able to play the puck, but most importantly removed any chance of Swayman making a safe. It doesn't matter if you think Swayman will not be able to make the save.
    However, as with any rule, players will then attempt to abuse it. If any contact with the goaltender means the goal is disallowed, then defenders will throw themselves into their goalie hoping to get a whistle and prevent a goal. If Bennett and Coyle had jostled resulting in Coyle with his back to number 9 falling into his netminder then that seems like a hockey play.
    I hope that while the NHL would likely prefer Florida to Boston for marketing reasons, I hope that has not permeated down to the officials. I think, if there is any bias, it possibly comes from officials from, say Ontario, trying to overcompensate for any perceived hometown bias, by calling against Toronto in this case. Or in the case of the ref from Richmond, BC, who has never overseen a Canucks win even after being a referee during the Sedin era, I suspect inadvertent biased refereeing might be occurring. And I also hope that the takeover of the sport by sports gambling doesn't insert itself into the game's umpires.
