Late post, and it has probably been asked, but I was REALLY looking forward to the Apple CarPlay demonstration that never happened. That is the MOST important reason why I was looking at this review, otherwise, why bother upgrading the entire system when you can just add a BT module to the aux-in and go on? Good video, nonetheless!

Not sure if you searched it up, but it's just the type of communications system components (usually in a car) will use. It's one big loop, along with other busses, that have a bunch of computers on it all talking to each other.

what if I have a radio with the double antenna input but only a single antenna wire. Is there a single to double antenna adapter? and if it would work?

Hi mate installed my radio upgraded with a polo TSI OEM radio but now I have a challenge with rear speakers not working and steering controls to lower or up the volume these do not work, any idea as to what to do in order to get it function to its full working condition

Sorry I’m not sure. Don’t know why you would want to keep a cd changer from 14 years ago. Just download your music. The quality will be better anyway
Hi, I have a VW Golf 2005, but my car doesn't have parking sensors, And with the rcd360 you will get a parking pilot. So will it always peep even if I install a reverse camera?

Hmm not sure. I’m sure there would be an option to turn it off. Camera and sensors normally run separately, I’m pretty sure don’t hold me to that though

Hi, I connected the rcd330 directly without adaptor and all works fine just the wheel control left said (volume) is working and right said (changing songs) is not working!! Is this related to the adapter?

I like the video, Just some advice, you will go through many batteries until you find out that any aftermarket radio that is not OEM on any VW will drain charge out of you battery. I suggest going with OEM every time.
Didn’t go through any batteries with this unit in the 3-4 years we had the car.
Hey. I have golf 5 2007 and after removed 4 radio screws I still could not remove my radio. Do you know what could bet the problem?
Not sure. Maybe go around brackets on the side and try prying it off. Maybe it’s just stuck from heat over the years. Just a little bit of force.

Yeah it’s pretty good for what we paid for it. Was $400 but needed to buy another usb to lightning cable for the iPhone for it as the one that came with it wasn’t very good and kept losing connection with the iPhone.

No issues at all with battery drainage from it. I believe it’s an 08
so did yours come with the harness and adapter or did you have to order it separately? because all the ebay ads for this radio say it will not function in 09 or older without a bunch of extras. if so what did you have to buy.

I’m not sure with the iPhone 12 Pro. I know we had trouble when we got new iPhones. Fixed itself after an update but also the Mrs connects her via a cable and not Bluetooth so she can charge it

Pretty sure that’s what’s meant to happen, so you can see it at night. Or the lights aren’t turning on when you turn your headlights on?

you should also make vids on replacing speakers door and maybe rear on a mk5 gti, i got one or two popping so theyre going out, dont think i want to do subs and all that but i do want good long lasting audio, some decent speakers

We use Spotify all the time with it. I think it was the early mk5 that needed the canbus update as ours did not need it.

@@rieewoldt I ended up buying an aftermarket Android radio that works well but I had a friend help me out with installing it. Some wires had to be soldered but I don’t think we needed a canbus adaptor for it. My steering wheel controls didn’t work anymore though and I haven’t fixed that yet, so I’ll still have to look into that. Not sure if I need an extra adapter for that or if I can just set it in the radio’s settings. Sorry if I wasn’t of much help but this is all I know, however you can always ask your local garage for help (preferably a VW garage)

There is a connection for a reverse camera. However we don’t have one so I’m not too sure the quality of it

The steering wheel buttons work except for the telephone one.

@@arisimonian6870 i would worry about battery drain if i were you bc you have an older model vw. I just got the 330 for my 2010 passat and no issues with drain.
@@HarrodsGarage the 2007 and earlier VWs will have battery drain issues because the CANBUS needs to be replaced.

Volume + & - and track < > do and mute. That’s all that worked before I changed it, so as far as I know they are working.
I want to bus the RCD330 with carplay for my VW Golf 5 from 2007. In the Web they also say that you need a Can-Bus Adapter to save the batterie from leaking is that necessary? Thanks

You need the newer version of the canbus and code it with vcds because your car is 07

Looking at this head unit for my 2005 mk5 GTI but i'm concerned about battery drain
I didn’t have an issue with our battery until late last year, I tested the head unit circuit for a parasitic drain and it was the head unit. You will find in the comments of this video people saying you need to upgrade the CAN on it.
@@HarrodsGarage I know some of the RCD330 head units come with the CAN for steering controls and this needs to be used :)

I don’t believe you can just plug straight in. You would have to use line converters to get RCAs for amps.

Hi, when you install this can you not just remove the stock radio and fit the new one in directly from that section or do you have to remove the top part, trim etc. ?
You have to remove the top part to get to some of the screw so you can get the radio out

Will this work with VW golf mk5 GTI 2005? As I’ve read somewhere you need to replace the CAN gateway to avoid battery drain and if I’m honest I haven’t got a clue what that is haha!
It will fit, but what people are saying you will need to replace the CAN. We didn’t and haven’t had any battery issues. I don’t know the part number for the CAN to replace, sorry.

Joel Maynard If you use a scan tool or vcds you can find out the model number of your canbus gateway. You need to find what variation of canbus you have which is determined by the last letter in the mode number. I will check for you but I believe that all canbus gateways that end in K or later are fine for the rcd330 without battery drain.

I want to do the same thing with my vw touran tdi from 2007. however, there is an issue with pre 2008 cars not being compatable with this rcd 330 radio due to battery draining issues. to fix that, i have to get a new gateway. could you maybe do a video on how to change gateways in vw cars? thanks!

It was local to me but on eBay. I did have the link up which had it for around $400 and they put it up to $1500 so I delete the link. Just google ‘rcd330 apple car play’ and you will find one local to you.

I have a problem. When I try to pull the radio out (the stock one) it doesn't come out. I Pulled out the 4 T20 Torx that's holding it yet it doesn't come out. If anyone knows a fix to this please help.

@@HarrodsGarage first one at the top then 2 on the sides for the top part to come out, then the 2 for the plastic (for the radio, climatronic etc.) and the 4 ones for the radio. But it doesn't come out when i pull on it

No need to. It’s pretty good. The Mrs calls me nearly everyday on the way home in the golf and I can hear her just fine, can even hear my son in the back seat clearly.

Mk5 parts are have so much in common with Audi A3 parts it's unbelievable, most parts are compatible between both cars

I don’t think it’s for DAB, could be wrong though.
Best just to google rcd330 adaptor and pick which one that will suit your year.

I have a full MDF red display like this car and brought my rcd from AA auto aswell with the steering wheel adapter for the mk5 - have you realised yet that when you press the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to change the trip menu in the MDF display it also changes tracks or stations at the same time?

the radio changes station when im trying to change the mdf menu from L/100 to km left or something
