That was a real treat. At age 87 now, I still remember so clearly back in the 50s when I was dating my not so soon to be wife and listening to the radio together in Pasadena in my mom's 50 Ford convertible. After 64 years of marriage we are still brought back in time by The Four Freshmen. Thank you Spencer Lay.

In 50's got an invitation from a friend and his wife to go to the AIR FORCE BASE on Cape Cod Mass. To see the Four Freshmen! ! Thsy were fantastic! They had their own sound! Over the years people tried to come up with the same sound but no one could get the same harmony! What a great surprise to see and hear them after all these years! I am now 91 years old! Thank you!

I met this group in 1956 when they came to Ohio Wesleyan University where I was a freshman. They were members of Tau Capa Epsilon fraternity which I had pledged. Kenny Albers had just joined the group, so we took him in then and had a party for them after their performance and I entertained them with my comity escape act. Many of my fraternity brothers , including myself were in the University concert orchestra so we had a special interest in the group. They will always be my favorite musical group and afforded me memories that I will never forget.

Ah thank you! My first pro gig was with a band called the Barry Thompson Quartet, a 4 piece vocal harmony/instrumental congjunto based on the 4 Freshmen. I was a teenager at the time and Barry taught me that the harmonies of the 4 Freshmen were based on an analysis of Beethoven's writing. That's why it sounds so 'right'. Nowadays harmonies tend to be computer generated by algorithms that ignore some of the intricacies of classical harmonies. Barry said that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys understood these intricacies.

These songs take me back to places where I'd rather be again! Happy joyous days of my past! I never got to see TFF live because I was in school, or later, working myself as a musician. But I think this foursome was one of the best TFF had their whole career! Some of the later groups were good, but this group's harmony seems so well matched, it's hard to beat! Thanks for posting.

Personally I would delete one number - the interminable "Lazy Bones," which doesn't showcase even a moment of their unique phrasing & sounds as if sung by some dreary group like The Ames Brothers.
