I didn't know it was possible to play the ukulele so well. Richard Thompson said "People think I'm kidding when I say my right-hand technique is influenced by George Formby, but it's true."

I love my music particularly indy and punk but I also love George and his catchy tunes not to mention his clever, witty lyrics not unlike Morrissey really. Also George was a humanitarian as proven on his tour of South Africa when he cancelled it on account of being asked to perform in front of segregated audiences apart from one show he did in front of a an all black audience which he finished by picking up a young black girl who came on stage to present him with a bunch of flowers and hugging and kissing her on the cheek which made the audience love him even more and cemented his popularity with black audiences as well as his traditional white working class fans. You have got to love him just for that act if nothing else.

I'm with you, Stuart. Indy, punk... and George. :D I actually link all kinds of music and this is just pure entertainment. To me it has even an early Sid Barrett feel to the fun of the lyrics.

George once said that he only knew a few chords, so he'd have Ukes tuned to various keys and swap them in and out accordingly.
Actually, he was probably being humble...Ukes and Banjoleles were (and are!) notoriously hard to keep in tune, and intonation could get suspect the further you ventured up the next
This way, George maintained tuning stability, as well as being able to use his split strum and hammer-on techniques using his favourite shapes...which would have been impossible had he played it in another key!

Interesting thing is that Weird Al must have been a fan of this tune since he used the same rhythm for his song, "This Is The Life", which was the main theme for 1984 comedy film, "Johnny Dangerously", that was set in the 1930s.
