Dragonball powerscaling and discussions in general have often mentioned the topic of "potential". Who has the most? Who wasted their potential? Between prodigies like Goku vs Vegeta vs Gohan vs Broly vs Frieza... who has the most dormant power? Let's find out!

Uub probably deserved a mention considering how Goku treats him at the end of Z. But I get it since he hasn’t been shown much.
Uub can easily be argued to have the most potential. In the moro arc uub as a child with no training was able to provide enough ki to take goku from an exhausted base form all the way to mui with the ki avatar. Even blue evolution vegeta with the help of all the z fighters could only get goku from base to blue. Uub being able to take goku from exhausted base to mui is a ridiculous feat it means that uub's starting level once he learns to use his ki is mui goku level and will only be able to grow from there.
Since iirc he's a resurrection of Buu or something like that, he would probably have at least enough potential to put him on par with buu saga Goku.

@hassentrh2118 ya, maybe since uub was not even slightly exhausted even after he gave all that energy. He basically did it casually. So, you may be right goku might just explode if he tried to take in all of uubs power. What is so crazy about this is that uub is literally a child with zero training. That is why I am more than willing to push the uub has the most potential agenda after the events of the dbs manga and moro arc.

To be honest, of everything I saw in Dragon ball, heck, even in anime general. Broly shocked me the most. Just a thought of him being weaker then base Vegeta to pushing Gogeta to use blue to beat him. That is just insane... and it was his first real fight and it was versus gods...
Broly no question. He went from base DBS Saiyan level to debatably UI Omen level in a couple of hours.

Broly did basic training with bugs and a guy around Nappa’s level for 40 years yet he was able to match Vegeta in his base… a Vegeta who has SSG in his base. Frieza did training for 4 months with some fodder Frieza solider and went from being below the Androids, to surpassing SSB Goku and Vegeta. Gohan with one major rage boost went from struggling to match a Gamma, to surpassing even Ultra Instinct Goku. Now you can see why these three are always brought up in this discussion.

@@lonkstakes Cell has Saiyan, Frieza, and Namekian DNA. This makes Cell eligible to unlock their transformations coupled with infinite zenkai boosts by self destructing. Even a combination of multiple transformations could be considered, along with techniques to multiply power like kaio ken. Cell could use the multi-form technique and make a farm of zenkai boosting cells that constantly self destruct and get stronger while he can monologue and do what he wants.

@@lonkstakes Cell also absorbs 17 and 18 who also have great potential as mentioned in your video combined with his other DNA, Cell literally has superior genetics compared to everyone but the Angels and Zenos. The combination of Cell's genetics definitely beat Buu. Yes Buu has an initial advantage of strength but that can be due to existing for millions of years with experience and absorbing the Grand Supreme Kai while Cell is only about 2 decades old if your counting the time he was in his growth pod.

Broly gets better gains from raging out, and also from tapping deeper into his primal power. While Frieza gets far better training gains, but Freezy-pop can't get stronger as the fight goes on, he either stays the same or gets worn down, even if his physiology does make him rather tough; I mean the dude can take a beating.

Honestly, now that I think about it, as much as I wish it didn't all happen off screen, Android 17 being able to reach such a high level by just keeping up with his ranger duties, then go even further once he actually started fighting again at least makes pure sense unlike some of the other "oh, he just has so much potential-" characters. Dr Gero would've seen how quickly Goku was able to go from small moon busting levels of strength at best to being able to win a beam struggle against a planet busting attack coming from someone who presumably had much better ki control, therefore it makes sense that he would specifically build them to be able to grow very quickly themselves, to make sure his plan wouldn't be ruined if they took longer to find him than intended and he grew even more in that time.
I've been saying this for years and people still want to get on 17 over frieza gapping ssj3 in 4 months, which makes even less sense then training for like 10-15 years.

@lonkstakes Dbs manga moro arc uub as a child with no training could provide enough ki to take goku from base to mui ki avatar state. Blue evolution vegeta with help from all the z fighters could only get goku from base to blue. That means that once uub learns to use his divine ki his base starting level of strength as a child will already be comparable to mui goku level. Which is absolutely ridiculous.

I’d say broly > gohan > frieza. The reason I say this is cause broly and gohan doesn’t take long for them to power up that fast. Black frieza was only attained by frieza actually training in the hyperbolic time chamber. But than when u look at broly and gohan it didn’t take long for them to gain so much power

@@ojpickle5923 in the manga the only genetics cell has is goku,vegeta,piccolo,frieza and king cold. All the other “genetics” he has are anime only. Also the cell jrs didn’t really train much or at all since 17 states there the same strength as the cell games.

But besides, given friezas crazy gains in 4 months then if the jrs had any percentage of Frieza level percentage then they would have gotten stronger. Granolah’s potential isn’t that good compared to top tiers. He only became strong because his strength was condensed.

- Frieza took 10 years to go from ssb levels to mui levels.
-Gohan took 5 mins to go from ssb to mui levels
- Broly is just mui levels cos hes the legendary super saiyan and doesnt have anything above green hair state even in controlled form. Even Kale went from beating ssb in berserk to ssg levels in controlled even with more energy.
Gohan has the most potential. Broly has the same potential has any other saiyans. Goku and Vegeta have more potential than Frieza
I’m torn between Gohan and Broly having the highest potential. On one hand you have Broly who went from being base Vegeta’s peer to requiring a Blue level fusion to beat in a matter of hours, however, that required several transformations(I count Ikari as one since it is using a power separate from base) and decades worth of training. Yes it may not have been of the same quality of training the Z fighters enjoyed but it was still training coached by a seasoned saiyan warrior for nigh on forty years.
Contrast that with Gohan who is notorious for slacking off in times of peace which actually causes his power to diminish as a result. It wasn’t until Revival of F did Gohan take training seriously. Keep in mind that is over a decade long gap since the last time he trained for a prolonged period. Despite not having the same resources and likely not dedicating the same effort as Goku/Vegeta he is seemingly the strongest of the saiyans currently. While Beast may be a transformation it is inherently linked to Gohan’s potential so I feel it appropriate to include it in the debate.
In the end there’s solid arguments for either characters but I’m siding with Gohan because I have I bias towards him. Although it doesn’t really matter since I’m confident Uub will likely surpass them both

After just a lil bit of traning with piccolo to get his power back he was able to pushed goku to ssjblue . The reason why broly had so much potential is because he’s the legendary super saiyan and for freiza he’s a tyrant so yeah don’t come for Gohan

We know he can get Zenkais, much like regular Saiyans, but Cell never actually trained. 🤔
For all we know, his potential could be added together or even multiplied.
I don't get why you treat transformations and potential as separate things. Most of the time when a character unlocks a new form (E.G: Oozaru, Super Saiyan, Golden, etc) they are unlocking their dormant power, which obviously means it's part of them lol. There are some exceptions ofc like gaining power through the Dragon Ball, God ki or fusion.
We can't substantiate it entirely but Uub should as much if not more potential as Gohan or Broly.

An honourable mention imo is Goku Black. With the rate at what he was improving, he could have definetely surpassed fused Zamasu if he was given enough time.
In my opinion gohan, look how many times we get told that gohan can be the strongest and the whole narrative in super hero can gohan be surpass goku and vegeta and he did you can say he surpassed black frieza in the anime timeline but you can argue Broly, frieza or jiren then I can see why and there’s a bunch of statements about those 3

As for Cell, All of cell's abilities would make his potential limitless (several people have already speculated how strong cell would be)
Freeza is sensible, but Goten has demonstrated nothing since the Buu saga and Uub only has one potential feat, Gohan consistently demonstrates his potential, and even after Vegeta is made aware that Trunks and Goten unlocked super sayian at 8 and 7 respectively, Vegeta himself, still stated that Gohan has the most potential out of anybody, over his own son and Goten… on two different occasions after the fact only to exemplify and reiterate Gohan’s potential.
We will see if pan does something crazy.
It's gotta be Broly, this dude went from lower than Base Vegeta (post TOP) to being relatively above Super Saiyan Gogeta in under two hours. No other character has had this much growth in that short of a time frame.
Gap between Manga ToP Perfected UI Goku and Super Saiyan Broly prior to Moro is greater than Namek Frieza and Resurrection 'F' Goku, who likely hasn't even absorbed God into base in this continuity.
Even if he did, Goku and Vegeta get a lot stromg since they fight Golden Frieza, I'd say about 3 Blue increases by managing against Black on trip two who before beat Blue Vegeta up in Grade 4, the second by being relevant to Rosè, and then the third by Goku managing against Merged Zamasu.
Base Goku and Vegeta fighting alone demolish characters like Hit by this point, so a A × B fusion between them would definitely be greater than Namek Frieza and Resurrection "F" Goku. To say it isn't is to say that Goku or Vegeta when they fuse into Gogeta are inferior to Resurrection 'F' Goku.

Granola arc Goku arguably has a similar jump from the one you mentioned as in that arc those characters are stupidly stronger than their tournament of power selves. And Frieza is arguably a fusion level increase
What about Jiren? A regular guy that with training alone managed to surpass his god of destruction (something unprecedented in any universe), and then only with PTSD triggered he became equal in power as Goku with mastered ultra instict.
Jiren probably had a long journey and gradually grew stronger like goku did,with the huge difference that after the death of his master and friends he did it all by himself,relying only on his own strength,despising teamwork and friendship,we also don’t know how old jiren is,he could have lived for centuries,we don’t know his species lifespan.
Like we don’t really know how he trained/got stronger in those years but something like this makes the most sense for his character

Goten & Trunks have Gohan sweating in terms of potential despite lacking as much formal training, considering Gohan’s thoughts in both the present & future timelines as well as their performance in the super hero arc

I think broly has the most potential here, think about it, the only reason broly never climbed higher in power over the years is because he was training and fighting creatures who were far weaker than any major villains in z and super, broly has never had to push himself that much, even though he was training with his father for all those years, there was still a limit there, because paragus' power level was always at a low number and again broly has never been exposed to stronger being through all of that time on vampa. Whereas Gohan and Frieza have been exposed to multiple opponents who have pushed them to become stronger and stronger over the years, I imagine if broly had the same level of exposure and experience, he'd be just as powerful, if not more so than Gohan and Frieza combined. And judging from the latest manga chapters, broly only needed to use regular mastered super saiyan (not even a hint of God ki and minimal amounts of training and control) to fair decently against Beast Gohan. If that doesn't tell you broly has more potential, I don't know what will.

This may seem ridiculous. But I believe that the race that has the greatest potential is humans. Take Yamusha for example. From nothing to humiliating the G Force (the strongest battalion in the galaxy) without any transformation or harsh training, most of Goku's achievements were speedruned quickly by humans.
In my opinion, it goes Gas, Cell, Frieza or broly, goten, gohan, uub, trunks, 17, buu, 18, goku, vegeta, everyone else
I think that Broly and Gohan are close. Remember Broly is a lot older then Gohan is. As well as full sayins ability to grow in battle vs stronger enemies. That ability is massively amp for him. I give it to Gohan but by only a sliver.
i belive (idk how to speell it i am not from english speaking country) that in dragon ball there are 3 potentials, growth potential, potential (how much power before they hit theyr limit) and mastery potentional (how fast they can master anything) also there are some like potentional connects like gohan his potentional is connectet to emotions

I mean broly and gohan are so different to the point that comparing their potential is near pointless but I'd have to bet on gohan due to what i belive the narrative intention is but it's super difficult to say imo. Gohan in the manga arguably does the same thing broly does and arguably in a shorter amount if time the two are really the only contenders

In my opinion its a tie between Gohan and Uub(or more specifically Majuub). Uub at his best would have access to Buu's training GAINZ(which you downplayed*) as well as his latent GSK God Ki. Gohan because he still is stated to have the most even now.
*the weakest version of Buu, less than half of the Fat Buu that got bullied by SSJ3 Goku, trained for 2 hours with Hercule throwing rocks, which is the most lax training we've ever seen in the franchise, and jumped up to above Base Early-ToP Goku. To put that in context he's above everything Kale shows.
Imo vegeta has higher potential as he was still keeping up with goku, who had already gotten a potential unleashed boost from the ultra divine water.
Broly has a set limit on how much he could grow
Gohan with barely any training went from moro arc(ssb saiyans and im being generous to him) to manhandling cell max(movie. If we used the manga continuity, the fight was much closer).
Cell max being stronger than the (possibly) moro level mui gamma androids. He did it just because he got big baby rage mad 😭
Frieza, went from namek saga, to being stronger than RoF goku. He just didnt master his golden form or he would have won that fight.
This is also his FIRST time training and we know from gohan and goten, if you don't properly know how to train, you wont reach your maximum potential. So the RoF frieza we got may have been weaker than what he would have been had he trained with masters like goku, vegeta, piccolo, or even the human Z warriors.
Frieza in under 10 years got so strong, he ALLOWED goku and vegeta to live. He knows they can fuse using the potara fusion(through kefla) and the dance( through gotenks and gogeta), but he still let them go.

Goku. He’s kept up with everyone without rage boosts (super Saiyan doesn’t count) or being started out with so much power that there potential was obviously higher. Goku has never had his potential unlocked, and is still possibly above Gohan. I’m not hating but it’s Goku as he doesn’t have all the handicaps Trunks got. Even if Frieza gets a bigger boost, and if you wanna composite a older goku with movies and GT scaling despite 100 year time skip super Saiyan 4 blue kaioken x20 limit breaker goku he’d absolutely have the potential to make any top tier blush.
To be fair. Its pretty obvious frieza didn’t use his full power to defeat the saiyans. In fact he effortlessly one shot them.
For all we know he couldve beaten them in his base, or gold. But wanted to Show them how outclassed they were. Something frieza is known for.
The fact that he didn’t kill them or even have malicious intent is nearly out of character. He is aware of fusion, he is aware they grow stronger, he just doesn’t care.
I think Broly has the greatest destructive power potential while Gohan has the greatest reaching new level of power potential
The problem with your frieza analysis is that both 17 and buu had major headstarts compared to frieza. Frieza was literally weaker than namek ssj goku whereas buu was already above ssj2 level and 17 was above early ssj level meaning they both had a major advantage over frieza to start with. In fact frieza was weaker than everyone you mentioned in this video when they started training and frieza still caught up in a short amount of time.

I think you’re seriously downplaying black Frieza’s power. As we know, his potential is monstrous. A decade of training would definitely have skyrocketed his power. He trained knowing they could fuse to beat him. He wasn’t just a few levels above ui goku and ue vegeta. It’s significantly more than that and official statements even say he’s closer to a destroyer’s power than them. I’m just gonna say it. Frieza could have likely even used golden to one tap them. He just wanted to flex his new power.
As far as we know Frieza has always been massively powerful, granted, he hasn't trained, but I don't think he has massive room for growth... Arguably, while his base has progressed, Golden and black Frieza are transformations.... when the elder kai unlocks Gohan's potential, he stated that "you need to stop relying on those transformations, they're a crutch" or something along those lines... Despite all of Frieza's training, to be relevant in the new spheres of power he uses transformations, he'd still get molly-wopped in base. We don't know what beast is exactly narratively, though it certainly looks and acts like a transformation... but I'd still argue it's a toss up between Broly and Gohan... Broly started AS A BABY with a power level OVER 9000, while Gohan's was farmer with shotgun levels. We haven't seen a serious fight between the two of them, but if Gohan is even a level or two behind he is still miles ahead in potential... after all, the entire first dragonball show spent its time well below 1000, and in the beginning arc of z, only Vegeta would have been stronger than a newborn brolly... Gohan surpassed Vegeta within the same decade, while still a kid... after training with Goku for a year (in the time chamber) but still. The leaps Gohan takes, having started from nearly 0 are ludacris... It's been consistent from the beginning and it still gives the fan base whiplash

Uub has the most potential. Best feat for uub is the moro arc where uub alone with no training what so ever provided enough divine ki for goku to go from base form all the way up to mui with ki avatar. That literally means uub as a child with no training is already mui goku level he just cant use his strength yet.

Hercule definitely has the most. Without ki control he took hits from Cell and Buu. He’s the only person who fought Cell and Buu, and lived. Think about that.

Freeza has the most potential. He has never had potential unlocks or training by a master. You talk about his training but he was fighting fodder or mental training and not trained by a master.
Gohan easily because he can do normal training but got as strong as goku and broly just because he angry, angry kid gohan spanked frieza second form,third form and the final form in the anime, he got on blue level in an hour of training, goes from high blue level to Instinct level is crazy, while frieza train for 10 years to achieve instinct level of power i said instinct level of power is because the instinct that frieza beat is not 100% divine and full power

Goku was born as a low level saiyan,with almost no potential at all,on the other hand vegeta was already the most gifted saiyan, (except for broly) a genetically gifted warrior and highest rank of the elite caste, as a kid he was already stronger than elite adult warriors like nappa.
From then on vegeta never really trained,because he was already born stronger than basically every other saiyan.
Goku on the other hand trained for his whole life with 5 different masters,becoming a skilled and experienced martial artist and slowly making his way up,gaining experience and techniques.
End even after all of that,goku’s base form was half as strong as vegeta’s in their first fight.
So why was goku always stronger than vegeta from namecc saga until after buu saga?

While vegeta was having extreme and solitary training,straining his body and mind over his limits,almost dying every workout,relying only on himself,obsessed by sole purpose of surpassing him… goku was far more skilled and efficient.
A prime example of that is in the cell saga,when vegeta and trunks evolve their super saiyan just for it to get bigger and stronger,creating these enormous,slow and stamina draining monsters,while goku and gohan sacrifice sheer brute strength for efficiency and stamina,evolving their super saiyan form to have no strain on their bodies becoming like a base form for them.
Goku was also a martial arts genius,a sponge that absorbed the techniques of his friends and foes (99% of goku’s techniques are copied or taught from others)
and vegeta was just chasing goku’s progression,desperate to surpass him.
By the end of the buu saga goku was already at his natural physical peak,at his limits as a saiyan (and vegeta would also be in a matter of time)
goku and vegeta were finally relative in power again when vegeta accepted goku’s superiority as a fighter and stopped chasing him,following his own path and respecting him as a friend and rival.
So no goku doesn’t have more potential than vegeta,he’s just the better fighter.

I don't think Buu actually has any potential. He is a being of pure magic. He can learn to use that power better, but there is no hidden reservoir of power he needs to unlock. There's just his innate power and any additional power he can steal by eating enemies.

buu has by farrr the most potential, he trains for less than a day and surpasses base dbs goku and grows stronger just from having the supreme kai wake up inside him
Imo it’s Gohan and he got a lot of feats and statements to back it up like reaches ultra instinct lvl with just a simple rage boost he actually even surpassed tui since mui is stated to be his strongest form he did it with no training rusty broly has been training with goku and vegeta and still is weaker.

To be fair, Black Frieza was probably just a flex. Frieza was training to surpass anything that the Saiyans could possibly pull off, so he could probably do the same kinda one-shot to a Blue Gogeta or Blue Vegito, or even whatever Ultra form either of them may use. I mean, he knows those exist, so why would he not make sure using them won't matter?
