I spray it on the inside of the can lid just after dark. I soak it. It works! They don't even touch the bags. (I spray some on the outside of each bag.)
Younger less experienced bear’s? Well bears are pretty smart and will learn quickly when young... bad advice to discourage using ammonia. Go for it! Great idea
Nope doesn't work where I live in Pennsylvania. I have the good trashcans and even strapped them shut lastnight and my husband and I watched as the bears pulled the pail to the street and pounced on them till they bent the pail so bad that a paw could reach in and take the bags out. Very smart bears!🐾🐻🐾
PA resident here, clever bastards don’t give a shit, the one we got is practically a member of the neighborhood and will waltz right up to your house at night.
I've been using ammonia for years, never had I problem. I woke up this morning (the 2nd time) to a mess and I'm getting pretty sick of it. I've never put the ammonia in the bag though. I pour ammonia on the bags in the trash can, under the lid and on top of the lid. Still had a mess a pick up this morning. 😡😡😡😡
I live in Farmville Va and the neighborhood bear has been in my trash one time but continues to come back. This is his Fourth time coming into my yard. He walks the same path but doesn't touch the trashcan now. I don't understand why he's coming back. I spray bleach and ammonia in the bag and the can. When I saw him I was traumatized!! H e was huge!! I'm almost ready to sell my house.I moved here from Maryland and was not accustomed to all of this. It's also illegal to kill a bear in Virginia
Pin-sol works awesome. I use it out camping all the time in bitteroot mountains and rockie mountains. In the heart of Grizzly bear country....never have i had anything but elk and deer comw into camp. And deer are very rare to show up too. Doesnt seem to bother Elk at all. But bears and cougars have never come into camp since i started using Pin-sol. I soak cotton balls with it and put them.on bushes and trees and my motorcycle and sleep like a baby.
I spray 50/50 ammonia /water inside the can and inside and outside the lid. They don't tip it over or pull the bag out and it takes you off their foraging route. Don"t use concentrated ammonia or pepper as it may damage their sense of smell.
It works for the bears in my neighborhood. But I put some on a papertowel and put it in the trash can. We have city-issued cans, so the bear-proof things won't work. Another way is to put your cans in the garage and close the door, if you have a garage....
Guys....please do not spray Pepper spray or any Pepper smell/flavor on your trash can. IT ATTRACTS BEARS!!! There's so many story's of backcountry hikers spraying it on their tents....and bears came and licked it off.

Corrupt State, rigged elections
I live in PA Also and have the same kind of bear! Nothing works I’ve tried it all

Ammonia for skunks & bears, exlax for squirrels & mint scented trash bags for raccoons.
That bear has a cute face 😍

A neighbor recently recommended sprinkling Comet in trash can. Said that was her mother's method and they never had a bear problem.
Ammonia can blind bears please do not use it on your garbage cans.
🌬📢What abt sprinkling cayenne pepper? 😏

I hope you are joking...bleach mixed with ammonia makes a very deadly gas!!!! More concerned about you than the bear

thank you for giving instructions for ppl who dont want to harm the bear!
Too bad u cant just shoot them right?
Plus the water mixture cuts down on the evaporation rate a tiny bit. Lasts longer. Smart!
Damage their sense of smell you say 🤔
Ammonia can be harmful & can cause blindness for bears. Do not use it.
Glad we don't have that prob here .Over here its foxes that rip bags open ,but sprinkle disinfectant over the bag and they won't go near it.
I'd rig an ammonia canon.
Blow-molded plastic isn't heavy duty.
I've heard that pepper spray may actually attract bears.
It hurts them if sprayed, but not if it's on a surface.

Except that I did that once and the bear broke right through the door and got the trash
Sounds m9re like the city doesn't want any un housed garbage containers.
Put ammonia in the garbage bags thats in your can? Well, wouldn't they destroy the can before it even gets to the garbage bag itself?
Tried it, didnt work!
Love this guy

I eat a jar of hot peppers and poo in the garbage.
I’m in Alaska, mama bear and two Cubs. Ripped a hole in my garage door last night. Got into mine and my neighbors garbage.
Try ground sensors connected to sirens
Mix that with some bleach and you get to mustard gas the bear.
thats cruel...

I have a cheap solution, .50cal bullets
A standard 12 gauge slug is a few pennies and .729 caliber

Use peppermint oil. Or strong smelling soap. It's the strong smell. They can get blinded by the fumes and then you have a blind angry bear
Hilarious.
Give them rat poison
Why? So they start farting? All rat poison does is cause gas in larger animals. Rodents can’t fart, so causing the, extreme gas is fatal.
Doesn’t work. They get used to it real fast and just ignore it.
Ammonia is a solution, but Bears are attracted to dirty bins. Fit any bag with BagEZ and keep your bins clean-ruclips.net/video/P8DWL8ZT2Ec/видео.html
