      Hello Candace,
      I could be available for any program that you might want to organize. As a member of the Bear Warriors we have done some community retrofitting and I am available to save bear lives and keep people and bears on a separate but equal basis. Bear Warriors asks for a $5 donation per trash can to cover direct costs but sometimes there are donated funds available for free retrofitting. Never want $$ to endanger people or wildlife.

    I like your method the best so far. We have high degree heat here in the Southern California desert and I feel it would work against the unforgiving effects of being under the sun all day. We don't have bears but we do get rodents, feral cats, stray dogs, lizards, and upon a rare occasion a coyote. I also like that it is easy to remove on trash day. Thank you for sharing!

    Great idea this trashcan is made by a company called Rerig Pacific company one of the things you might want to try with this one and the toter trash can that you did in a previous video is to put a piece of metal on the hinges securing the lid. Both these companies have trashcan lids that are prone to breaking and cracking on the hinges so metal might help reinforce it just make sure you don’t pin the lid down into the lid pin and it won’t open

    Western New Jersey…black bears are feasting up here. Upgraded my cans from the old round ones to 32 gallon toters (only allowed up to that size by ordinance). The tops aren’t as robust as the can you have but I installed ps22 buckles with milspec nylon. Woke up this morning to a garbage can 150ft from the house with bite marks and a slight bend on the side of the lid. I’ll call it a win for MK I. I already ordered more buckles to secure the sides for MK II.
    Thanks for the guide! Any thoughts on how effective the buckles/straps would be in securing the cans against a concrete wall or wooden shed?

    • @jimthekayakguy7921
      @jimthekayakguy7921  Год назад

      Agreed, in my neighborhood people store their cans outside all week and when they set them out on the morning of pick-up they unbuckle or take out the bolts. Bears only came at night so no problem and both systems worked well. In many other communities around Florida that we have retroffited the homeowners have had to pay the Trash company or the County extra for the few seconds it takes the workers to undo. One company does it for free because they like people and wildlife but this only works if the don't use the automated trucks.

    I wonder if the waste company cant be notified of these and instruct them to simply unclip. Some bears seem to know the garbage days and scout for these cans overnight, making this useless if left unclipped on garbage days.

    • @jimthekayakguy7921
      @jimthekayakguy7921  5 лет назад

      Yes you are correct and bears have figured this out in some cases. That is why we have to be smarter and more adaptable. We have worked with Florida Counties that have authorized the waste company and with the waste haulers themselves. It only takes seconds to unclip but they can be resistant to the added time. They don't need to reclip after they empty the can. One community agreed to pay extra for pickup. Please try. Thanks

    • @susie2251
      @susie2251 4 года назад

      Jimthekayakguy unfortunately many communities only have one driver driving a
      truck which picks it up from the curb without the driver getting out of the vehicle (except for handicapped homes) so asking them to do this would double the time for pickups probably.

    The bear just now knocked over my trash can, but the Gorilla tape held tight. It's expensive, though, and a pain to tape down every week. I'm elderly, so would I easily be able to clip and unclip these straps? My garbologists would love this rather than having to cut through tape every week. Do you make these available for sale? The tape is expensive. I'm in NY.
