- This system has been used successfully in my Florida neighborhood and the state since 2016. With minor adaptation this method can be used on most municipal trash cans. Send me a picture of your alternate trash can top if you need advise on correct installation.

My T-shirt is from the Native Rhythms Festival held every November at Wickham Park and in 2016 was dedicated to the Florida Black Bear to honor and heal after the Florida bear hunt was suspended after 2015.
The picture painted by my neighbor and artist, Lee Hanline, on the wall was painted on my old cooler top and has tooth holes in the top and sides when I almost had to wrestle a black bear while camping as he lifted it out of the back of my pickup truck many years ago. It ended well with no food being exchanged and a cool souvenir. It was a good lesson on not attracting bears.
Years later in Alaska we hiked almost right into a coastal brown bear with what I think was mutual excitement and respect. This time only memories, really good ones. This effort may be karmic pay-back for all the unique experiences nature keeps unveiling.

Beary awesome video Jim! Thank you for enabling thousands of people to peacefully co-exist with our native wildlife!!
Many thanks!
Your straps are definitely easier to use and lock than the 1s I have. Additionally I used to regularly wash my bins too. Keeping the bins clean, helps reduce smell that attracts them. I found a holder for bags on Amazon that let's me use smaller bags in my cans to hold messy waste and prevent my trash cans needing frequent cleaning. Hope it helps reduce your pest problem too. I've also found that sprinkling a little baking soda after throwing in trash reduces odors. I've added the link to it. Thanks again.
Always looking for good ideas. You know bears have the best sense of smell we know of so reducing attractants can help them and us. Thanks for your comment.
Wish I had seen this before a purchased a bear can from the county. Great idea Jim!
Thanks 👍
This looks like the answer to my bear problem. Can I purchase materials from you?
Yes Susi, let me know what you need and how many. A picture of the top and front of your can will help get the right fit. Text or call 321-243-0279
Jim,
We're in Sanford with bears in and out of yard on a weekly basis. How can I buy/donate to get the four strap system?
Hello, I'd like to purchase two of the pre-made 4 strap kits from you. How may I do so?
Hi Jim, can we purchase two of your pre-made 4 strap kits? Much appreciated
Yes Peter. I think you just texted me also at 321-243-0279. Is that picture Chimney Rock, cool place.
Would those buckles work for keeping raccoons out of the trash, we have a terrible problem with raccoons, but they are smart little critters?
Absolutely, and if your can has the firm plastic lid like the one in the video you only need the two front straps for raccoons, dogs, etc. They have never figured out how to open the buckle yet...
Great video how do I purchase 4 set?
Hello Phil, Can you send me a picture of the top front of your trash can, your address, description of the problem, and how many sets for you and anyone living near you. Jim 321-243-0279
What is the width of the straps? 1¼ or 1 ½??? Please help!? Thank you!
Hello Jennifer, I use 1" width heavy polypro strapping which is rated for 900 lbs because the PS22 buckles only come in 1" width. The buckles are critical. For the Brown Bear kits in Canada I use 1"nylon straps which have about 4,000 lb rating.
Hello Jim, I hope you are doing well. I would like to buy the 4 strap kit. What is your process? Thank You in advance. Ruben
Hello Ruben. I don't check this link very often but you can always reach me by email or text. I mail kits to the US and Canada often. Jim
Bought this same design on Amazon. Failed with the first bear attempt. These don’t work.
You may be an idiot. Mine are the original and hand made from the best materials available. I have not seen any for sale on amazon but if you donate $25 to a charity I designate I will send you a free set. They have been successful thousands of times.
I would like to purchase a set.
Suzanne you can contact me direct. Need to know type of critter(bear, raccoon etc) , how many sets, and a picture of the top front on your trash can in case I have to modify straps. Jim 321-243-0279
