It's amazing how often playing as Zen in Quickplay when using Transcendence to swing a fight, only to watch my entire team run away outside of the AoE the second it goes off, like they were allergic to healing. It'll be nice when the common players start to know what the character abilities actually do again.
You've noticed this too lol
Dude even in comp they make it so hard just to heal them
It’s just a bunch of noobs. Give it a couple seasons and all the noobies will be up to speed.
@@xXWyTeBreaDXx Seriously, I forgot that this was what the first couple seasons of OW1 were like, and it was like a weird flashback. I figured that the SUPER new players having a process to learn and unlock characters would've hopefully curbed that a bit more.
@@ghostirq Even when you give clear "Group up" "Push forward" or "Come to me for healing" it's like they don't understand. When holding off a push where the full opposing team is almost at the goal, I've literally watched my tank and both DPS dash away in different directions from me AND the robot to all stand JUST outside the Trancendence range and get killed… As I'm just floating there, helplessly invincible just sighing, and saying "Hello" to the full enemy team waiting for the Ult to end.
With newer players, it's like the glow of Zen's Trance is flicking on the light in a seedy apartment and watching all the cockroaches scatter out of sight instantly.
You should do the hero guides series again for all the hero’s. There has been a lot of changes since those last came out and they were super useful
This
Yes totally! The game has fundamentally shifted so individual guides could be valuable
Free easy relevant content. Good call.
and loads of new players
Marblr has done those for the new heroes
Playing support is a criminally underrated role. Nobody plays it because they think it’s boring when it’s probably the fastest paced role in the game. I main zen and every second of the match I’m shooting at enemies and making sure my team has heals. There’s zero downtime when playing support. It’s very engaging
True but people misuse there health alot now cause there healed more since 1 less tank
Doomfist: Don’t play
Use your ult to go back to spawn and swap. High value, high skill rollout.
Doomfist now: USED ALL ABILITIES, USES ULTIMATE, USES ALL ABILITIES AGAIN, no value, dies, team fight loss, game loss
They didn't have to do him like that
they slaughtered my favorite boy 😩
: wait for the rework
This might be my favorite video of yours. All this information is so helpful! It’s tough figuring out OW2 after OW1, but this guide is exactly what I need. Thank you, this game is so fun! I just wish more people used mics on console. I’m the only one in chat 90% of the time
Yep 100%. More people need to know how to play the game positionally and how to pick fights.
might be time to join the darkside and play on pc
Vc in competitive games is mostly toxic
It's tough figuring out OW2 but you played OW1?
They are prob in party chat 🙃
This is the grade a video I was looking for. New player to the overall over watch team. Your break down on the different type of each role is very informative. Makes it easier to know the characters without watching whole guides of each individual one.
13:00 That BOB bounce was insane! An absolutely incredible outplay!
Something I can add to this, if I could add anything, is that as a life-long support main, I've noticed that a lot of people see supports as basically healbots, they do nothing but heal. The mindset you SHOULD adopt as a support is you are another fighter in the match who just so happens to be able to heal as part of their kit. Don't be afraid to left click and throw some damage out, you can do more than just heal.
EDIT: Also, I know this guide is broad strokes, but I'd have liked to see more attention to Lucio's playstyle in general because he is very unique in what he brings to the fight. His mobility is a skill all on it's own, but his ability to be anywhere at anytime allows him to place big heals where they need to be. But more importantly, is knowing who and when to speed, because speed song can win fights when done correctly. Honestly, I love nothing more than having an aggressive Rein who I can speed around to allow him to swing into the enemy team when they aren't expecting it.
Speed song can win fights, but I’ve lost a lot of fights because I’m still on 200HP as the tank after the last fight and the Lucio has been wall riding round directly next to me and hasn’t bothered to switch tracks.
@@InceyWincey Honestly, in the past, I used to forget which song I was on until I changed to "Hold to Crossfade". Initially, I did it for another reason, but it's definitely helped me with being Lucio. I know a lot of Lucio players who just forget what song they're on sometimes.
Fredo. I take breaks from overwatch, but your always here when i return. You always make good content, and you clearly love what you do. Im grateful for what small role youve played in my life
I think I've been watching the channel since the beginning of OW, and even when I stopped playing, I would still watch your videos. You're articulate and concise, yet your explanations are always easy to understand. And I've always appreciated your outlook on the game in general. Thanks for the guide, I really needed a primer after coming back. Looking forward to more Freedo.
Love this kind of content. Also love how you divided the tank categories. Been having fun playing Hammond on this assassination playstyle with a dps Moira or a Lucio as a duo
This is the most insightful video I've seen from the channel. So many Overwatch videos focus on details and specifics. This video allowed me to finally see the big picture and the flow of the game. Thank you!
A few of my friends have came back to overwatch and some of them haven’t played since Brig was released, so your videos have been really helpful in weeing them off the vs AI modes as they re-aquaint themselves with the game.
Hell yeah, looking forward to this video and more guides to come
Great meta/game sense commentary as always. Really appreciate the category breakdown among classes, sticking to the new philosophy of less direct counters. Thanks for the vid Freedo!
I thought his name was greedo
@@Wzrd100 How are Battlenet servers playing under a bridge? Never played that way.
Loved this video! I found myself playing OW1 more casually these last few years, although with these new guides, I'm hoping to forge a better and more robust understanding of the game. Thank you for your work!
Perfect video for people who just had some friends try the game for the first time! Looking forward to some more guides.
Some of my favorite analysis of yours yet
This was actually super helpful, thanks! I never considered it was wrong of me to focus too heavily on the objective as a tank; I just assumed that was my role.
I'd love to see some videos outlining key positions to be playing on the new maps. I always feel kind of unsure about where to be on the new maps and would love some suggestions.
ditto
Yessirrrrr pleasepleaseplease
Such great insight! It's amazing how often you can get baited out of the job you need to do in a particular fight because things aren't going your team's way.
Thanks man, that's exactly the stuff I needed! So looking forward to future videos similar to this one. Great job! :)
Back to some classic content, couldnt be happier! thank you and keep it coming my friend
Really helpful! Would love tips on how to play the maps
Probably your best video yet. Bravo!
post-point positioning is a pretty helpful and catchy term to remind people to play around objectives, not on them. i can see it getting at least a little bit of traction
i love your vids, iv been watching them for the past 3 years and they have been what helped me climb the most. at this point watching just helps remind me of what i need to be doing of what i already know.
thank you, thank you! getting back into playing lately and this is a great way to help catch up on all the changes. 👌🏼
Great video! Got some good tips from this one, looking forward to applying them in game.
love the way you explain stuff, looking forward to future videos
Great video, I'm glad to finally have a comprehensive guide. I'm a tank main and I've been off-role for the past few days because my entire playstyle just doesn't work anymore, so I've just been waiting for someone to make a general guide to help me improve on that.
Also I'm so glad to hear you're making a video on push, I hate that mode mostly because I don't fully understand how to play it well. My positioning on these maps in particular is very, very bad.
One part I'm really struggling with is support positioning. I know mine sucks, and I know how important it is, but I'm not quite sure what good positioning means for a support.
It depends on the support, but generally you want to always play around cover.
Would love to see more content like this, but with more of a focus on a role-specific level, and perhaps even on an archetype specific level.
this video was very helpful! thanks for doing it and congratulations on a job well done.
This was such a good video, loved this style of presentation
This is a fantastic video!
I played probably ~2,000 hours of OW1 and feel like I'm quite an advanced player, but you pointed out some things that I'd never seen/thought of/considered before!
Thank you! Subbed! :)
Love how after all these years your still giving us tips
Very good guide, i'll just add at the end of it when you talk about support taking duels and shooting back that, when done properly it does peel off your team and can be BETTER than actually healing them. And the last bit of your video perfectly illustrate that.
Video was so good I’m just leaving a comment to feed the algorithm. Thanks for the great content!
what an amazing video, you always deliver thank you so much man!
New names for tank categories
-Offensive tanks(doom junk etc)
-hybrid tanks(rein zarya etc)
-defensive tanks(Winston dva etc)
@@comedial6829 I think meaning is junker Queen
@@comedial6829 yes she is
Thanks, Freedo! Support is my favorite role and it has been a struggle at times, helping your team that's in bad positioning, and watching them not learn the mistakes. Playing as Mercy is equally frustrating.
This was fantastic content, thanks for writing it up
Freedo youre a machine pumping videos out
Thank you for this. I was having so much trouble with 5v5 as a support.
This definitely really helped its just alot to take in and keep up with I will be on the grind mainly gonna be playing dps/damage and support but you helped comfort me into wanting to try to get better at playing tank
Omg i am so proud to already know most these basics
Good video. I have 4 friends who just started overwatch 2 this was just the video i wanted to show them
i subscribed to this channel not long after overwatch was launched and 6 years later im shocked this channel only has 800k subscribers
Been playing for years and finally having a blast in comp. An Echo main for dps and excited to reach Plat for the first time ever on dps
I’ve been waiting for this one
Great video! Thanks Freedo!
i like you kept like and subscribe at the end of the video. made sure i did it as the content was so helpful. i usually dont like when someone ask for likes and sub at the start of some random yt recommended video but this one definitely felt deserved. thanks a lot
Solid guide as always Freeto! Hope we can get some changes to junker queen and doomfist early next season. Pharah feels better than ever to play now that there's less shields.
How did you know if the guide was solid when you hadn’t even watched the video yet?
@@MartinJPR is that a serious question? 😆 hop off bud.
Pharah op affff
Freedo
Hey maybe its just me but the "how to play all 35 heroes" subtitle threw me off and i almost didn't click as i was expecting a "1 tip for every hero" video. Glad i did, this type of content is always my favorite of yours.
I’m new to the game and found this extremely helpful. I would mainly use soldier 76 or soujirn but didn’t know how to use them correctly.
Great video Freedo, can't wait to see what you have in store for us
Great vid. Got some new players this will be perfect for
God I love the Overwatch content renaissance. Great stuff Freedo!
In a 1v1 Roadhog can decimate a lot of other tanks. Granted the strategy is different for each tank but generally you play the mid-range with your right click until they burn their cooldowns, hook them and stay in their face with primary fire. It's so much damage. Not to mention he heals himself.
Thanks! Been enjoying the new reworks. At first I hated orisa without shield but know she's great
Yep she's pretty good if the person playing her know when and how to use her kit.
This is the best OW2 guide video that has been released.
I am new to the game and this was actually really eye opening, thanks
Wow, with the help of this video, may be I'll see more than 9 heroes in my matches! Still haven't seen like half the heroes being played.
I play with several groups of friends where I'm a diamond player and they are all silver/bronze. I play flex, so a video on how to carry/lead a team as each role would be awesome!
LMAO @ 1:57 -- that was an amazing charge on that Ashe. Well done Freedo!
Players need help in this game. Glad you've put this out. Really helps solidify the core ideas for myself as well. Keep on keeping on brother!
The positioning change has been the hardest part for me as a Support. It's not that I can't follow that rule, but in lower ranks my teammates don't want to step back. Instead, they'll target me for throwing because I didn't want to go on the payload when there was a Reaper and Sombra
Absolutely! The biggest problem with the game is people immediately blaming the support for throwing cause they are out of position and think they are Top 500 when they are barely silver.
Out of the entire team tank is the most important to protect the team or to skirmish so dps can be safe. But then the most difficult character to play is support cause they need to know when, where, how and who to support. Dps thinks about killing the other team mostly the healer and thr objective thats whay less then the support. Thats why people should start to respect good supports. They have alot of game knowledge.
such a great and helpful guide!!!
Great video, great value
looking forward for more guides
Fantastic vid!
Best OW content period thanx
Thanks for this! So many new Players and I think people are forgetting to make videos for the new guys.
Great video Freedo!! I would love to see a Counter pick guide for tanks. I know OW2 is supposed to be less counter-pick-necessary, but I feel like some matches up work and some don't. Additionally - what types of supports and DPS work well with what tanks would be great given the massive meta shift.
P.S. - the Lawnmower is great. Thank you for the discount!
wow best overwatch video i seen in youtube
Excellent work freedo
A vid about zen would be nice. I can’t get any value from him because he got no sustain and I have to defend myself from every direction no matter where I position myself. Unless I’m landing straight headshots I’m gonna end up dying one way or the other
INCOMING!
First, learning the sight lines on maps is huge, because it's all about how you position yourself in proximity to your tank and the objective on push maps where you're most likely to get flanked.
Second is making sure to use your Ping frequently to tag flankers and your discord targets. That helps your team know when they need to assist or help you out.
Third is use the fact that you don't make movement sound to your advantage both in approaching on flanks to catch others off guard, as well as identifying where enemies are you Ping about them to your team.
I tend to vary between living on the payload and circling around it, especially on Push maps to keep you close to people and make it harder to isolate and dive you.
Alternatively if you have more mobile DPS or Kirito who can warp to you, sitting back a bit where the enemy is just at the range of your Discord and listening for flanks while providing suppressing fire because your damage doesn't fall off at range.
Keep in mind that enemy tanks like Ball and DVa _REALLY_ want you to be split back a little too far, so that they'll be able to leapfrog into you, mow you down, and leap back out. Other DPS like Sombra, Genji, and even aggressive Moira can hit-and-run you hard if you don't have a Tank or DPS to help split their focus.
Lastly is that Soujourn is just… your biggest threat. With her insane damage and you having no mobility to escape her AoE, she can SHRED you - especially with Moira's orb being tossed in to that mix. Unless you have DVa, Sigma, or Winston to stick semi-close to or another DPS dangerous enough to keep her attention occupied… she'll always be brutal to deal with.
A couple other things that're also helpful that I just remembered are that you're there to kick stuff now. That CC will help you be less afraid of being up-close to the action and can be critical in spooking flankers like Sombra, Genji, and Tracer. Zooming irregular figure eights around the Robot to keep out of sight lines, and snap kicking enemies away from you and your teammates when they try to close in on you can be massively helpful.
You make no sound moving, and oftentimes a well-placed foot is the best counter to an enemy who isn't expecting you. That chunk of damage with a Discord Orb not only makes for a good deterrent, but it allows you to be way more versatile assisting DPS splitting off on flanks. You can get some really cheeky boop kills on maps like the final push of King's Row or Ilios that were never even an option before.
There's also some nuance to your Ultimate setup & usage. I will _ALWAYS_ try to make sure to have Harmony & Discord on the Tanks before using Trance. You can't deploy them after and because 5v5 statistically swings the fight in your favor with each side's single Tank's momentum, they're the most important target to have marked while you can't redeploy those orbs.
Transcendence _can_ still help to negate an enemy offensive ult, but since there are no tag-team-Tank ults to worry about, it's often even better at maintaining momentum following another teammate's Ult that needs a little assistance to swing the battle. Ex: if Junker Queen's ult doesn't quite finish the job, Trance can keep that same advantage of outhealing your team even when the enemies are no longer anti'd, especially if the enemy gets a pick & suddenly has a man advantage. Same is when you have a push and they're or are trying a risky ult to pop off with in retaliation that you can't directly counter, but can swing the odds for (especially with the aforementioned pre-Trance orb placement). Because you only have 4 teammates, you have to make those calls FAST and what _can_ effectively swing a fight to a win looks different to how you're used to judging an OW1 6v6 on who's alive.
Trance's speed also means that you can go off on a flank with a quicker DPS Genji, Soldier, Echo, etc. and then pincer back into your own team on point with Trance so that you can heal both groups as you close in around them, and then end Trance with you back in a safe position instead of using a DPS ult. That works both if the DPS don't have theirs yet and you need that momentum now, or if you want to save theirs for a better engagement.
That all gets easier the more comfortable you get with the VERY different ebb and flow of positioning on the maps, pinging targets, and cadence of the combat engagement flow. Overall, it feels VERY different to where you'd be and when you'd act in OW1 a lot of the time - especially at first. The tempo of OW2 takes some getting the hang of that, but when you do, that will really help you know when to flank, when to fight up close, when to use Trance to push that momentum to tip the scales & when to hold off - because that's often going to be in very different situations when those choices will make the biggest impact.
Also, keep in mind that whether your team supports your calls and is there to act in tandem with you makes a big difference as well. My biggest struggle is newer players in quickplay seeing a big AoE appear and running away, not knowing Trance is there to HELP them.
I'm very much looking forward to the guide from Your Overwatch on him, as I know there's a bunch of stuff I can still improve on. As a Zen main, this tl;dr is how things have been for me finally feeling like I'm getting a good handle on him in this game.
I also felt the transition into OW2 was a little rough going at first, and I felt really helpless getting into it during the first week, but I absolutely love it now - even with Soujourn being terrifying.
I have found that if a Winston/dva/ham decided they are going for zen, you aren't going to out play it. If your team isn't doing something to counter, you should reallly switch off zen.
@@beaug4306 The enemy constantly killing one of your healers is a _team problem,_ because they're all left playing a 4v5 whenever that happens. If they're not doing something to counter that, *the issue is your team - **_not your pick._*
Swapping might give you a better chance at winning without any help, but the underlying issue isn't you playing Zen - _it's your team not working together._ You should be able to Discord them and burst them down with assistance, since the enemy tank's location should always be a key focus.
If you're getting picked off and your team isn't able to mobilize effectively to help you maintain a viable position while pushing momentum forward - you should switch.
It's always important to remember that at MOST levels of play, synergizing with someone's first pick is almost always going to be better than forcing them to a "stronger" pick that they're less familiar with - especially if your team already isn't playing together to work with you.
This is why I roll people over as a tank. I don't play the objective, in push or payload maps I will for sure camp at the next choke pushing the enemy team aggressively while our tracer/lucio/ana sits at the point getting free progress. And in koth and hybrid maps I will sit AROUND the objective, falling back and giving them temporary control of the point seeing them waste all their important CDs. Then I will push in with my own ones (DVA rockets, zarya bubbles and high energy, winston bubble, etc) and they can't do anything about it as I flex my superior health pool against their backline. And because most people still focus me instead of my dps or healers I will make so much space for my dps to clean up
Great video. I’m new too ow and I have no clue how to play this game this is usefull information. Please do character guides
Thx for the info!
Awesome guide, thanks! Very useful information, put together in a easy to digest way, I wish everyone in OW watches this so I can stop telling them to use walls to stop bullets instead of their faces
This was very helpful
Great video!
This is a great video!! Probably one of the best i have seen at describing whats going on under the hood when you come up agenst an given team comp. I would love to see a video that basically takes the context of this video and puts it into real world examples.
I play support in mid gold and I really struggle at identifying whats going wrong and how i can help make it better. Dealing with dive is an easy example with moria, lucio, or brig. But what about DPS that like to over extend, or tanks that never turn around to look where their team is and push in to far. How do you deal with a snowball and no amout of healing is helping and the team cant seem to get anything done. How do I make the best of a junkrat one trick playing into an eco and phara, or a team that wont sync up and we constantly take 4 v5. I see all this stuff happening but i dont know how to at least make the best of it.
its really hard to play support-main with teammates that only thinks of you as healers/heal-bots, when they think they can just braindead 1v3 1v5 or dive forward and feed.
Playing Zen lately:
Hits Transcendence
Teammates: Scatter like roaches when the lights turn on
Ahhh lovely! I’m a mercy main so far and my next 2 best heroes are Anna and Brigitte, guess it’s not so surprising considering what you say here about support hero’s. I would looooove more videos explaining tips and stuff for support players.
This is a fantastic quick guide for returning players. Thank you!
Thank you!
Right now, I'm struggling with securing kills. First off, I'll say that I'm returning to Overwatch after a long time and I am trying to focus on the poke hitscan heroes you mentioned since they are simple and I want to build my fundamentals. A lot of heroes seem fairly survivable, whether they be DPS, support, or especially tank heroes, and can often buy enough time to get healed. It also helps that Overwatch has the craziest strafing mobility and running animations I have ever seen so landing shots is insanely difficult in the first place. The window of time to take advantage of an engagement and deal meaningful damage before the enemy recovers is deceptively short considering the average time to kill
I've been feeling the same, although I usually play support since dps matchmaking time is so long. I think the engagement ranges have a lot to do with this. For some reason I'm doing really well as Cassidy, but really bad with Ashe. I think Soldier had some big nerfs to his long distance dmg which does make it really hard to finish people. Sojourn also can't deal very good dmg at range except with the right click, so you have to find decent left click targets up close.
19:20 - It’s interesting because I seem to get most value out of Brig when I am backlining the enemy team and beating their flankers. But I do understand especially since Brig’s first introduction to OW1 that her kit has mainly shifted to being defensive. I think you still get great value from being aggressive with her if even a bit “reckless”.
I didn't know brig was getting changes and I'm kinda apprehensive now. She's fun as hell and my highest winrate support by far.
Same here, I have an 85% win rate and 3 hours on Brig. I'm in the lower ranks right now (currently silver tier 4), so that may be a factor.
But I've actually found the most value not using her as described in the video. I've instead used her to carry whoever happens to be carrying my team the most each game. Usually that's a Zarya or Rein. I go in to shield bash or whip an enemy tank or DPS back as my team's tank/DPS is about to die.
I had one game where it was death ball v death ball, Rein v Rein, and I saved Rein and DPS from being pinned out of position with my shield bash a lot. I died A LOT from saving my teammates that game, but we were consistently winning team fights. So it's kinda hard for me to argue against the strat working, even if it means a higher than average death count for me in some matches like that.
Might just be the lower rank though, hard to say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
AH YES I've been waiting for this one !
Already climbed from silver 5 to dia 5 !
I have two ideas. Running down the maps on where you should or should not be at any given time. Especially how to make a soft reset work and how to play / how to play with a divetank.
And how to time things in Overwatch. Which abilities do well together and how to get them up roughly the same time.
great vid!
great video!!
As Moira has been my most successful support, I would have to agree on needing to pick and win duels but never stop healing as well. Moira's I have noticed too often get caught up in just doing damage or just healing when she needs to be doing both most of the time.
I cant help but hate moira players rn since 90 percent of them just play dps moira and dont heal
@@Tringledingle unfortunately that happens a lot at low tier play. But judging all Moira players before they play like that isn't the best either. I get toxicity from people sometimes because I play Moira but by the end of the game they don't have a leg to stand on because my healing done stat is highest or 2nd highest in the game, not just counting my team.
Good Moira's do both. Bad Moira's do just healing or just dps.
Honestly Moira's who only do dps should play Brig as she heals off her dps. Moira's that only heal should play Mercy.
@@benjaminfrost2780 aight no hate but saying highest or second highest isnt really something to say cos theres only 2 healers -_- but yeah I get your points but I'd defo rather have an only heal moira vs only damage moira
@@Tringledingle I did say, "highest or 2nd highest in the game, not just counting my team", in the comment you replied to...so there are 4 healers not 2. So...yeah.......it is something to say. Please really read the reply before making an emoji comment in the future as if you really caught me out on something when you didn't.
A Moira not doing damage will recharge their right click healing bar very slow, but sure if you are picking the lesser or two trash options, healing only would be better.
Hate to say it boss but your taking this a bit personally all I wanted to say is that it was a bit goofy
I’m so happy there’s new life in overwatch and hearing freedo lay down the law again 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Even tho it says advanced tips this was still pretty helpful to make me understand more rolls I just started playing beceue its free now and I can play with my cousins but I sucked haaard so I want to improve and videos like this have been making me improve now I just suck
The biggest struggle I have had so far, is having a team play fundamentally. Turbo feeding tanks or full agro Moria’s. My mechanics are absolute trash and I know it’s the only thing holding me back in my rank. Yet, to see a Moria start off my throwing a damage orb at the start of a match, fade back to choke while the opposing team advances. Then it comes time for our first team fight and our moria’s abilities are on cooldown, we get smoked and then start feeding is so frustrating to me.
What changes are they exploring for brigitte ? I remember reading something about her ultimate- which doesn't feel great compared to the other supports.
