    As a fellow GM rein, 10/10 guide. I went from bronze to GM, and virtually anyone can on rein. What got me to climb us the the only thing I think he missed. creativity. Maximizing value on rein requires killing squishies, NOT THE TANK. Pinning a squishy makes the tank have to peel you, creating space for your frontline because the tank isn’t there anymore. So be aggressive, take an off angle and get access to backline. Players like LhCloudy do this all day, it’s the most fun way to play rein, and imo the way to get the most value.

    • @BaileysOver
      @BaileysOver  10 месяцев назад +15

      I totally agree man! I tried to cover a lot of the basics, and kinda emphasise playing that solo-queue and pin-heavy Rein. I think it's so easy for new tank players to focus on the upfront tank battle, whereas focussing squishies is almost ALWAYS more value - and that's something I'll always promote on this channel :)
      appreciate the feedback though dude. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and congrats on hitting gm!

    The primary thing for new reins is to NOT HOLD YOUR SHIELD. When your shield is broken it puts you at such a bad matchup against everything not in swing range.
    Like he said, use it selfishly. Its YOUR resource.

    • @BaileysOver
      @BaileysOver  10 месяцев назад +5

      very true! the main problem with shield is that it stops you from using your most valuable tools - hammer and pin. it's great for the reasons I mentioned in the video, but is definitely NOT Reinhardt's focus as a hero :D

  • @monchyd6519
    @monchyd6519 7 месяцев назад +10

    nice video. onw small thing you missed is the hammer knockback direction manipulation. since hammer swings knock back enemies to the left or right, you can use this to your advantage. if u dont hold attack and wait a little until ur next swing, it comes from the right to the left again. can be useful to box enemies in and dont help/let them escape sometimes (really miniscule thing, but it is a tech that helps a little, and can be used often)

    Typed this out then realized you aimed for a more basics guide lol. Other techs, as a GM1 rein:
    -Corner/double swinging, getting two hits in the time of one, is the counter to a perma-swinger or quick peeks against a full charge sym. This requires time to setup, so I'd say double swing then cancel with FS.
    -Jump pinning or 180 pins, so you pin someone from the side or back, in order to pin them into your team or wall-playing a rein v rein practice code in the workshop demonstrates this a lot
    -Pin jump-cancelling pin and jumping at the end, to get to higher ground, like 3rd point Kings Row upper areas.
    -Beat goes on for longer than an instant, so when blocking it, keep the shield up for longer than usual, and cover an enemy.
    -Third person peek to scout
    -Crouch FS after shatter
    -Save FS for swing-FS, shatters, or windows
    -FS above zarya's head to bait bubble without feeding it
    -pin cancel shatter, 180 shatter, third person cancel shatters-just get creative with it
    -Don't push sig if they have slow
    -Flat's cradle-left shoulder sucks, right shoulder boops on pins
    -Rein is a dive hero, he goes in and out to squishies. Pin in, shield out
    -unbind S key
    -tape down pin key

    Awesome guide for every rank, I just wanna put some other tech options on it
    Against a ulting doom, try to pin the ult, not block it, because will disposition the doom and he will have to back out
    To block the ram ult, you HAVE to communicate with your teammates to stay behind your shield, because if someone is peaking outside your shield it will not matter
    And in sniper maps, use your shield until the health is low, because it will allow your widow/ache to get a early peak without have to worry about cover

    • @BaileysOver

    people always seem to forget mentioning body blocking. rein is very powerful at just normal body blocking but he has an improved version where he tilts his shield flick, similarly to how you offset hammer swings, so that the corner of your shield goes through the enemy and denies them heals.
    also, orisa doesn't counter good rein players. orisa lacks the ability to create pressure outside of her cds, which is completely converse to reinhardt. this means that orisa, in a matchup will always have to expend her cds first; this should be giving rein the advantage. i'm not going to say its heavily rein favored, because its not, but orisa is no where near a hardcounter to reinhardt. only reinhardts who don't respect her cds and play proactively in the matchup will lose.
    lets say orisa needs to push the last choke on 2nd point king's row. the cart is in the middle of the hallway/street, with a rein having the cover of the cart and the corners on either side to LoS with. for orisa to push this point she will have to move into the open and initially hide behind the cart, but she will still take damage due to defense having the high ground and either corner still being able to shoot behind the payload. orisa will have to expend either shift or e to move beyond this point. expending e means that the rein is freely swinging on your approach, followed by flame strikes that will clip your whole team in the choke. now that you're in melee range of rein and in LoS of his whole team, you will be forced to shift. rein by this point still has full shield and can still throw out flame strikes while he gives up minimal space waiting out your slow shift; space that you're taking with now only e coming back up and spear. rein swings on you/team forcing out spear which he can block into a pin due to no shift; while continuing to flame strike your team to death.
    we can take this example to pretty much every map and even where things like open point control would naturally favor orisa, she will have to always expend cds before rein; then it just becomes a snowball effect in rein's advantage. we could also take into consideration things like how dps/supports will effect the matchup, but most things that are oppressive to rein are infinitely more oppressive to orisa with the exception of sombra hack/sym.

    I dislike the dogma of always ignoring mobile enemy tanks, like winston ball and doom. It's actually insane how many of them are constantly feeding, even in low GMs - one pin and they die, free space free tempo free win. Rein has significantly lower survivability then them, so sometimes holding the line 1v4 as Rein alone is not the play. Enemy squishes will attrition you out while your backline is gonna try to fight back unsuccessfully. Huge pins win games, always punish the enemy for being too cocky.

    • @BaileysOver
      @BaileysOver  7 месяцев назад

      I think there's definitely context to when pinning back is and isn't the right play. As someone who started out maining Winston, dive tanks will often be prepared to escape when they hear the long charge up of a Rein pin. If they get out, they've done their job in making the Rein give up the space he was holding.
      There are obvious situations where pinning back IS good, but in other situations you can be playing into the dive tank's hands - just be wary of that :)

      7:13 - situational? yes, agreed. bad plays? definitely not, if used in the right situation. pinning a Bob out of the Ashe player's intended position is a good thing. not to mention that Bob cannot shoot whilst being pinned, and you can shield Bob from dealing any damage after you reposition it. same goes for the other ultimates listed there too! situational, and up to the player to extract value from
      10:25 - not only as a Reinhardt player, but as a Winston player too... I would heavily disagree with this being a bad play. you're creating a 4v1 situation where the enemy team cannot do anything except shoot into your shield. it's situational, of course, and things like a Moira ult can disrupt this play, but as a general gameplan it is 100% the best move to make here on Rein :)
      14:30 - meta change all the time, and Overwatch is a super nuanced game. the gamemode, map, team composition, and even enemy composition play a LARGE role in the effectiveness of Reinhardt. it was really just a sentence to transition into the next segment - but he is definitely not an unusable tank in a general sense
      16:30 - ideally, yes, you would be able to play more than 2 tanks. is Sigma a bad secondary tank to learn? not at all. and it's a super clean plug into my previous video :)
      I appreciate feedback on any of the stuff that I make, but a few of these were definitely nitpicky and possible not contrived from the actual content within the video. I can understand having preconceptions about how the game works based on your playing experience, but I try to make these guides without any preconceived notions. if you have any questions on why I chose to make any of the points in this video, I'd be more than happy to answer them here or on any of my socials! @baileysover if you would like :)

    Gold 2 tank here. I main zarya and find rein to be my biggest problem.

      yup, that's definitely one of her weaker matchups! I don't play much Zarya, but if you really wanna play into a Rein, I'd probably say to focus on building energy and ult charge, and get real aggressive if the Rein ever moves out of position :)
