    • @derhafi
      @derhafi 2 года назад

      Lennox and humility...That is always rich coming from somebody who thinks he “knows” God, THE God, humility by those who think that the universe was created with him in mind, that they knows the one creator of the universe, and know what this divine being wants. Jeah, that has all the hallmarks of humility right there.

    • @TheSpacePlaceYT
      @TheSpacePlaceYT Год назад +2

      @@derhafi Indeed coming from someone who believes their own morals can be used to capitally punish a human being even though moral statements are exactly the same in intrinsic value. Atheism is definitely the epitome of humility guys.

    • @derhafi
      @derhafi Год назад

      @@TheSpacePlaceYT Aside from the fact that Atheism makes no claims about anything regarding moral, that you in fact use your own choosen morals "to punish a human being" (it just happens that you jumped on some theologien bandwagon with this one.. i have to assume) and set aside that I never said anything about "capital punishment" at all, all those things aside....you really see no flaw in Lennox "arguments"?

    I love how Lennox, clearly a very brilliant man, comes across as intellectually humble and honest. His ever present clarity of thought and ability to communicate deep philosophical arguments in a cogent manner make him perhaps the finest modern proponent of rational Christianity. Doubtless, recalcitrant atheists will instantaneously and dogmatically close themselves to his solid arguments, but some open-minded agnostics who really take the time and effort to mentally digest his writings may well find themselves pulled a bit closer to the possibility of a deity. In any case, he is an absolute joy to read, watch, and listen to.

      The rules of science are simple.
      I forwarded them.
      I never really told anyone to drop their faith and become atheist.
      I just do not endorse any special pleading or interference of religious people into science.
      He is right, science does not say that gods do not exist.
      That is no proof for gods though, not for unicorns, jesus or other zombies.
      Creationists had years to prove their case, and they dropped the ball each time they are asked to bring evidence.
      I forwarded the evidence for evolution, I explained how science rules work, and who is obligated to prove what.
      And I pointed out that certain fallacies do not apply.....and that repeated strawmanning indicates a lack of integrity.
      That stating evolution is supposedly wrong while never having put in any effort to study the subject is tantamount to being a liar, so far one of the more serious sins in Christianity.

As for the idea that these concepts are simply unknowable I again disagree under the premise that the whole of christianity is built under the research of Gods revealing to us which is done via history which has always been an important method of learning fact. Your accusation that these men are attempting to line their pockets I simply find to be Ad hominem and also unlikely to be true yet I acknowledge that you are free to your opinion. Anyway I hope you keep up the search for truth without the idea that the truth is unknowable (As we all would be wasting our time and would have realized sooner).

      @jamesperkins4068 When it comes down to it, we all have to do our own research, and make a choice. One that makes the most sense to us. We do the best we can, or, not always, sometimes we do not really dig into the deep questions, we prefer the surface. I have been an agnostic, and an atheist, and God has revealed himself in my life and has given me confirmation of his truth. If i were to try and persuade you to my view, I would not really know how too, other than sharing the story that my life has been, and the journey of my experiences, thoughts, beliefs and how they have changed over the years. Then you might understand why I think the way I do, and if you shared with me, maybe I would understand why you think the way you do. Anyhow, I will pray for you, even though that might not mean a lot to you. All the best.

    10:29 So I've concluded a long time ago that atheism is necessary for both Communism or a sort of Corporate Serfdom. The Oligarchs must have figure out this (fascinating) point from Dr. Lennox a long time ago, and instead of outright shutting down the philosophy courses, they have just coerced them into teaching the tenets of Communism or Corporatism necessary to generate obedient, willing slaves. I was also raised an atheist and was an atheist for 28 years, but am fortunately a Christian now.

    John, just after mentioning that all schools are faith schools asks if he should tell the audience a little story about that, and I found myself at home, putting my hand up, saying, yes please!
    I believe that the reason why Jesus will wipe away every tear, is not because some of our family or friends won't be there with Him, but the tears will be because we never realised what we could and should have invested in heaven, we will come to a realisation of what has been missed for all eternity, yes, missed for all eternity.
    Like John, after I rise to my feet when I have finished worshipping Jesus, I will say, "Thank you." Words which sound so hollow, but which cannot convey anything greater.

      In all of his "lectures" Lennox wallows in a delusion, fully convinced of his God. In his mind there is no doubt, despite no demonstrable correlation between God and reality aka the complete lack of solid evidence that would add credibility to his position. His argumentation is laughable at best. He barely distinguishes between claims and evidence and lists “personal experiences” as his final “proof” for the existence of the God he happens to believe in. The same excuse for a reason, that other believers in other Gods mumble too when asked. Maybe he is a good mathematician, I neither know nor care, his kindergarten epistemology is not better than what one would expect of a medieval peasant.

    • @MiklRngr
      @MiklRngr 2 года назад

      @@derhafi I appreciate your commenting Rob. But to be fair, your argument is one of the two biggest obstacles that atheists have in getting any traction with me. You said, "...despite no demonstrable correlation between God and reality aka the complete lack of solid evidence that would add credibility to his position."
      Sir, that is just simply so contrary to reality it is the equivalent of a naked man standing in the street howling at the moon. It simply is not reasonable.
      I can respect someone who puts up an argument that the evidence is not compelling. But when you say there is (and Lennox has) no evidence, that just goes against reality and common sense.
      It always comes down to the fact that no one can PROVE God does ... or does not ... exist. A theist has staked out the affirmative and the atheist the opposite. There are factions on both sides that have their beliefs for illogical or unreasonable reasons - truth be told, I was that way in my younger years. I believed based on upbringing and emotions (and some reasons like conscience).
      As I have gotten older and done considerably more research, the EVIDENCE is what has overwhelmingly convinced me.
      I have not yet listed the "evidence" because you say there is none. If you are steadfast in believing that, no conversation seems productive. If you would like to discuss the evidence and share your issues with my views - and share your views. I would be open to that.

      @@MiklRngr “..that is just simply so contrary to reality” Is it? Then please point me to this demonstrable correaltion.
      In my experience, all believers ever manage when attempting this, are fallacious assumptions wishful thinking in the form of personal revelations and appeals to emotions….That is non-compelling evidence….…
      I am talking about an actual demonstrable correaltion. Literally everything I believe to be real has to meet this threshold. No God proposition ever has achieved this. I am sure you use the same standard most of the time…Other than you I am consequential with this and don’t make exceptions for things I want to be true.
      “It always comes down to the fact that no one can PROVE God does ... or does not” That puts God in the same category as magical unicorns and goblins…They have no demonstrable correaltion with reality either.
      “I believed based on upbringing and emotions (and some reasons like conscience).” I suspect you still do. Well, I do not. I believe what is demonstrably part of this reality.
      “As I have gotten older and done considerably more research, the EVIDENCE is what has overwhelmingly convinced me. “ Then please present this compelling evidence that convinced you that there is some ill-defined metaphysical /substance /creator/ God / entity/ force/intelligence/power/ supernatural whatever, not subject to the known laws of physics, that interacts with the fabric of our reality in ways that have thus far eluded every controlled experiment ever performed in the history of science.
      Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

      @@derhafi Rob, I appreciate your long form response and will reply in kind. However, to keep things bite-sized, I will offer my insights very tightly constrained.
      First, let us agree with the definitions of evidence and proof and God:
      Evidence: the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. To keep things simple, I think using the types of evidence used in a US Court of Law would suffice: Real Evidence (physical materials), Documentary, Demonstrative, Testimonial, Digital.
      Proof: evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement.
      God: The Creator of all things we see and do not see. He created space/time and thus is not bound by space/time. He is personal and has purpose to His choices. Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient.
      Assuming we can agree on those definitions, let’s start at the beginning. In this case, the beginning of life (we can also do the very beginning of everything later). Since I am not going to use theology, we will not be looking at Jesus’s claim to be God nor “testimonial” evidence based on metaphysical claims. While this is valid, it is outside the scope of our discussion.
      Ok, let us start with abiogenesis - how life began. the Bible in Genesis is clear: God created everything and there was nothing (other than Jesus and the Holy Spirt) before He created. He created everything (heavens and earth) and then created all life on earth. We can agree for our purposes that all physical matter and energy existed prior to life because science needs it to be there and the Bible says it was there. Hence, we have no conflict.
      Now, you must make the first cell. I do not care how you make it, but you have to MAKE some “stuff” (being lipids, proteins, amino acids, etc.) and then have this stuff come into orderly combination and they have to then create many machines to make a cell. The living cell is the lowest form of life that can self replicate according to science. Not only does a cell have a dozen or more structures, but it has multitudes of the components in each structure. Having said that, every single structure must be organized in a very specific order to function. Mathematically, this is rarer than 1 in 10 to the 600th (plus) order of probability. If we added up every second in the last 15 billion years only 10 to the 18th seconds have passed. Anything beyond 10 to the 50th power is considered a mathematical absurdity.
      I would like to point out that given sufficient absurd amounts of time and absurd opportunities, this could maybe sorta happen. However, once it does happen, everything needs to work PERFECTLY and IMMEDIATELY. Even a few seconds and the parts start to degrade and fail. A bit of oxygen or a bit of ammonia - the parts are destroyed. In other words, the chances of this happening one time are not a fair assessment. What is the chances of this happening millions of times until everything works just right. This should also be going on right now! Of course, it appears not to be, which is very curious. This is a form of the argument of irreducible complexity. You cannot simply deconstruct a living material into its component parts because the parts no longer function. Neither can they all happen at the same time because they each are complex enough they are not simple offshoots of the other components. How are these molecules made? We only have one known answer … by a mind. Dr. James Tour is the preeminent chemical engineer who has actually CREATED molecules (not life, just a molecule). And Dr. Tour has EVERYTHING he needs and a great laboratory just to make these. He mocks the concept as abiogenesis as pure folly or insanity.
      This is STRONG evidence to the most plausible solution which is that a mind created life. Whatever this “mind” is seems easy to start to line up with our definition of God. This is not proof … but it is extremely strong chemistry, mathematical, biological, and logic based application of reason.
      Here is an example of a machine which points to an Engineer: ruclips.net/video/WFCvkkDSfIU/видео.html

      @@derhafi As a closer to my last long post, I offer this. Your comment: "In my experience, all believers ever manage when attempting this, are fallacious assumptions wishful thinking in the form of personal revelations and appeals to emotions….That is non-compelling evidence ..."
      I agree, those are not sufficiently compelling for logic and reason based individuals. I hope my first foray (above) was sufficiently based ONLY on science and a reasonable application of logic based on the best possible evidence we have available.
