      Religion, unlike a lot of really difficult subjects like Mathematics or Economics etc.. really only takes only one step in critical thinking to disprove it. But, so many people can't even take that step. They don't allow themselves to be subject to self criticism. It's a 'locked in' belief, closed and sealed mind, all in the face of actual evidence. For some reason, holding position is more important than the truth.
      I mean, take a look at the flat Earth movement. The very fact that it is even a 'thing' and not a hilarious farcical joke. The mind boggles.
      I can't believe all humans are related genetically - some really seem like they're on a whole other mental level and I have NO idea what the view would be like from there.

      @@mcmanustony thank you for the question. I would have to say that Dr Tour's work with graphene is what I find most interesting in his area of science. More specifically the use of graphene ribbon, and it's potential uses to benefit people suffering from spinal injuries. Otherwise, I also appreciate his stance against the tide of false narratives in science. The fairytale of primordial ooze is not scientific, not merely because it is unobservable, but because it is mathematically impossible. Same goes for macroevolution, proven by the work of mathematics chair at Oxford, Dr John Lennox, and Dr Douglas Axe. A question that you might want to consider is this: why is the Hubble space telescope named after Edwin Hubble, even though it has been chronicled that his "great ideas" in science, were actually stolen from other scientists?

    • @mcmanustony
      @mcmanustony Год назад

      @@markmorris8410 thanks for the very depressing answer. I'd actually asked which actual paper of Tours. I doubt you've read any.
      " I also appreciate his stance against the tide of false narratives in science."- you mean his screaming lies and abuse about Professor Jack Szostak to then bask in the cackles and guffaws of his congregation of scientifically illiterate Southern Baptists? That stance? That event when he slandered the entire field of Origin of Life research. That stance?
      "The fairytale of primordial ooze is not scientific"- it was a valid hypothesis the testing of which led to a huge amount of further research. Perfectly scientific. The Miller Urey experiment showed the relative ease with which 20+ amino acids could be synthesised from very simply and abundant molecules- ammonia, methane, hydrogen and water. The focus has shifted to deep sea vents where life can exist in conditions of extreme pressure and temperatures.
      " it is mathematically impossible."- according to whom? You?
      " Same goes for macroevolution,"- I doubt you could define macroevolution with a gun to your head but since it's been observed in real time it would appear that you're wrong.
      "proven by the work of mathematics chair at Oxford, Dr John Lennox," He is emeritus professor- meaning "retired". He was never chair of the dept- just professor. A legitimate credential, unlike so many of his creationist ilk but he hasn't published anything in mathematics in many years and his work was on the theory of infinite soluble groups- groups formed by successive abelian extensions. This is a branch of pure algebra of absolutely NO relevance to biology. NONE.
      Douglas Axe likewise hasn't done any science in years and now works for a Christian fundamentalist pressure group that attacks science education. He did a ludicrous calculation about the formation of proteins- a comical, ex post facto exercise in generating Big Numbers by applying a nonsense probability distribution, ignoring selection and working backwards from the EXISTENCE of a particular protein. This is just laughable. It would rule out the existence of this deal of cards in front of me as the probability of this PARTICULAR order occurring is 1 in 8x10^67- an infinitesimally small number. The probability of *A* deal occurring is ONE. The probability of *A* protein forming is ONE. He is now reduced to giving presentations on "toddlers see design therefore design". How embarrassing.
      Getting back to Tour. He is distinguished in his field of research- which is NOT Origin of Life or evolution. Outside of that he is an unhinged, unethical lying fanatic and an utter disgrace to his profession.

      @mcmanustony Год назад +1

      @@tylerconrad453 His attacks on Origin of Life research are deeply dishonest and motivated purely by religion.
      He claimed to have found fatal flaws in peer reviewed research of Professor Jack Szostak, Nobel Prize winner and leading Origin of Life researcher. Had he actually done this his professional obligation would be to submit a rebuttal or correction to the journal in question- top tier publication "Nature", THE most prestigious journal in the life sciences. He didn't do that. Instead he headed off to a gathering of creationists organised by the anti-science Christian fundamentalist pressure group, the Discovery Institute where, in front of a congregation of Southern Baptists- not a demographic known for scientific literacy- he proceeded to have an unhinged screaming fit smearing the entire field and slandering Szostak in particular. He proceeded to ridicule a branch of science of which he has ZERO experience making great pains to point out that the paper he was screaming about was the peer reviewed literature. He informed the congregation at ear splitting volume that Szostak was lyin.....excuse me......ahem...."HEEEEEZZZ LIEEEEEYINNNNNNGGGGGG TOOOOOOOOO YOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" As he basked in the guffaws and cackles of the "experts" in the audience
      Of course it turned out it was Tour who was LIEEEYINGGGGGG. The article in Nature (all of 2 pages) was in an expository edition highlighting, for a non-specialist audience, some of the important areas of scientific research. It was NOT PEER REVIEWED research and Tour knew damn fucking well it wasn't.
      Tour was reamed by several scientists (ones with better professional ethics) and Tour called Szostak to "apologise". He has since LIED ABOUT THAT CALL, claiming falsely that Szostak basically conceded that Tour was right and that Szostak blamed the journal for including misleading illustrations. This is a pack of lies and confirmed as such by Jack Szostak.
      His antics are an utter disgrace. His attacks on areas of science that he does not work in- evolutionary science- are despicable. They amount to narcissistic publicity stunts. He made a song and dance about buying lunch for any scientist willing to come to Rice and "explain evolution". Apparently there's a piano strapped to his arse and he can't walk across his own campus and ask any of SEVEN professors of evolutionary biology to help with his remedial education. Biologist Dr Nick Matzke took up his offer- Tour ran away.
      His misrepresentations of the work of scientists like Szostak, Donna Blackmond, Lee Cronin, Steven Benner etc. are utterly shameful and have seriously damaged his reputation.
      His legacy will not be his impressive body of peer reviewed research (not that he's above dishonestly inflating even that), it will be his cult, his braying claque of noisy, pig-ignorant, science hating morons.

      For instance; I don't need to understand the intricacies of the modern engine in order to know that it is highly unlikely that it assembled by chance, rather than by brilliant minds who designed it.
      It's no surprise that Christ/The Word of God, who is the very essence of Truth, puts forth this concept.
      2 Corinthians 11:3 KJVS
      But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the *simplicity that is in Christ*.

      Didn't know and don't care. Theists watching the video are already primed to swallow anything that supports their belief regardless of and despite its disconnect with intellectual and scientific credibility. Theist approach is always grounded in confirmation bias - first believe and then try to manufacture reasons to justify what you already believe so they will eat up the garbage served by Tour. A closed mind gathers no knowledge.
      However those with an open mind might note some of the negative comments thereby motivating them to check out PD videos from which thy can educate themselves. And just to show there are no hard feelings on my part, I hope for your sake that this surge of new visitors doesn’t stumble across the thread of our exchanges as that would just result in exposing how you kept flaunting the magnitude of your limitations to a greater audience. @@chrisreimers84 I doubt if it is possible for anyone to have ‘no bias whatsoever’ so in that context I don’t claim or imply my position can be without any bias whatsoever. However my comments about bias have been in the context of the logical fallacy of confirmation bias. This occurs when a position or belief is justified as a result of specifically selecting evidence or specifically formulating reasons with the preplanned purpose of only supporting the position or belief that had already been accepted at the outset. As well as a dishonest, confirmation bias is inherently intellectually fallacious thereby rendering the justification of any position or belief supported like this to be devoid of credibility or validity.
      In opposition to this is rational thinking. Here a position or belief is reached based on and only after application of reason to objective evaluation of rationally credible evidence. While this approach cannot claim to assure validity its objectivity makes its outcomes indisputably more reliable and credible than the those arising from the predetermined charade masquerading as justification inherent with confirmation bias.
      That’s why Tour’s position is intellectually and ethically fraudulent. His starting position is to prevent science from undermining his religious beliefs. This is a forlorn folly seeing as how science has delivered the entire modern world though the objectivity inherent in its methodology whereas his religious beliefs are grounded in the ancient mythology invented by superstitious peasants whose ignorance was so great they were mystified by where the sun went at night.
      As scientific understanding continually progressed it kept confirming there is neither need nor basis for any god to account for the world in which we live. Believers have found themselves left with nothing but their ever shrinking god of the gaps which they posit as the basis for explanation anything science has still not fully explained. For thousands of years god(s) would have been the only explanation conceivable for the world but with the advance of science it became obvious how the world came to be without the need for any god(s). So claiming god as an explanation is just the logical fallacy of argument from ignorance and hence intellectually worthless. Abiogenesis along with the big bang antecedent state are the two front runners where theists resort to the argument from ignorance fallacy as the excuse to justify belief in god.
      But those who still are still psychologically wedded to this ancient mythology cannot accept explanation without a god. So people like Tour try to denigrate or undermine any aspects of science that are not compatible with their mythologically based beliefs. Hence they try to construct justification of their beliefs cloaked in a specious veneer of a science framework. But this is just naked confirmation bias because the conclusion has not been reached but already determined from the outset.
      There is a critical, fundamental and unbridgeable difference between theist thinking and rational thinking. Theists are enclosed in their self-imposed bubble of belief and because they are psychologically committed to their beliefs they will not go outside their bubble nor let reality in. Rational thinking people on the other hand are open to whatever is supported by objective evaluation of evidence. Hence they have neither a psychological problem or intellectual barrier to changing their views if warranted by new or revised evidence . Theists are always confident in their arguments because the answer was already known before the argument was even constructed so they don’t have to worry about getting an uncomfortable answer. Rational thinking people on the other hand only decide what the answer is after the arguments have been evaluated and have to accept the answer even when it’s uncomfortable.
      From a young age I have always been interested in trying to understand and make sense as much as I can of the reality in which we find ourselves embedded. I go about this by accepting at least provisionally that for which there is credible objective evidence, rejecting that which lacks credible objective evidence, and changing my views whenever evidence makes it appropriate to do. If this is a bias, well then I guess I’ll have to own up.

      @@coniferviveur3788 Even though our conclusion on the God question is completely different, I appreciate that you are willing to admit that you may be biased. I disagree with you that Dr. Tour's position is "intellectually and ethically fraudulent." He has not ruled out that man may someday create life in the lab, he is only trying to illustrate with clarity the situation as it stands now. I think he is doing a very good job of this.
      You stated, "There is a critical, fundamental and unbridgeable difference between theist thinking and rational thinking." Then you go on to describe the "self-imposed bubble of belief" that causes theists to not "let reality in." There is, of course, some of this but I find there are many atheists who do the same thing. Before I ever knew of Dr. Tour I would read the latest headlines about fantastic scientific achievements lending credibility to the Darwinian view. Upon reading these articles, printed for the masses, I would find that the title of the article had been severely overstated. Articles like these, for mass consumption, continue to be printed at a constant pace and the result is always the same. The overstated title is always accompanied by a following article that contains phrases like "may have," "could have happened," "is possible," etc.
      I really like your last paragraph and it lines up nicely with my thinking as well. It is obvious that we are both seeking the truth and that, to this point, that search has led us to very different conclusions.

      Tks for the reply. An important technicality to start with. When discussing the reality in which we find ourselves embedded, we try to describe it as best we can but whatever exists at some fundamental level does so independently of the accuracy or relevance of our descriptions. Therefore I do not believe it is possible to reach a conclusion that can accurately be called ‘truth’ since we can never be certain that whatever is called ‘truth’ now might not need to be changed or discarded at some point in the future. So I am not seeking ‘truth’ as such but looking to describe and understand our encompassing reality in the most reliable and credible way.
      It is an indisputably demonstrable fact of human experience that the only reliable way found so far to do this is through reason applied to objective evaluation of evidence so that is how I approach the search for understanding. Relying on objective evidence is why all the myth based explanations of the ancient past have been discarded and replaced with evidenced-based scientific explanations. That is, all the myths except for one.
      Labelling anything as ‘truth’ can often be an excuse for keeping a closed mind because once you think you know the ‘truth’ then there is no reason to entertain anything in conflict with what you hold as ‘truth’. I find theists often label their belief as ‘truth’ as a psychologically comforting prop because it enables them to feel completely confident in their belief since their ‘truth’ cannot be challenged. So I don’t hold that what I believe about the external world as ‘truth’ but rather hold my views with varying degrees of confidence in proportion to the supporting evidence.
      I don’t understand your comments that atheists do the same thing as not ‘letting reality in’. Atheism arises from and is founded on ascribing belief in accordance with supporting evidence so I don’t know what the reality is that you think atheists are not letting in. If you mean entertaining belief is some supernatural entity then it is not a matter of not letting reality in but simply not accepting that for which there is no credible evidence. So in the case of god for an atheist there is no reality to let in. If you mean something else then perhaps you can clarify.
      Articles for the mass media are exactly that - for the mass media. But anyone interested in such matters as evolution or abiogenesis (which had nothing to do with evolution) or the origin of the universe etc etc should do some basic research from academically credible sources. These will provide a much more reliable and even handed explanation of the topics in question distinguishing between what has been verified and accepted as science such as evolution, what is thought may well be the case but not yet verified such as inflation, and what is still in the realm of hypothesis awaiting confirmation or rejection from testing such as the various multiverse ideas. Also note that science does not claim or aim to discover ‘truth’ but rather seeks to validate conformance of theoretical models with the external world. Your comments about mass media articles sound to me more like you are looking for an excuse to denigrate the credibility of things you would prefer to not to accept.
      My position that there is no god is a conclusion reached through and after application of reason to objective evaluation of evidence. Throughout the many stages of human of human development belief in gods underwent changes from being natural phenomena gods -storm god, wind god etc etc, to anthropomorphic super-human entities - yaweh, marduc etc then morphing into undetectable platonic ethereal entities. However there is zero evidence that any of these god concepts are anything other than the inventions of ancient ignorant (but not stupid) human minds trying to explain their world in ways that made sense to them. Even more ‘recently’ people believed in unicorns, leprechauns witches etc but again objective investigation made it clear they are all just human inventions. I see absolutely no rational justification for considering god as anything other a human invention. There are however very powerful psychological reasons for wanting to believe in god but as I said above reality makes no concessions to conform with how we think it is or how we would like it to be. That’s why the most credible and reliable explanations have been derived through reliance on objective evidence.
      If you believe there really is any credible evidence for belief in god, feel free to let me know which particular god, the justification for that belief, and why that justification does not equally apply to all the other gods you don’t believe in.

Spare me the sanctimonious posturing. Tour is a relentless liar.
      I post under my own name, have a public profile in the real world and can be easily identified and would happily call Tour a liar to his face and I'll happily share the details with you- if you can quit sneering long enough.
      Tour is a distinguished professor of chemistry at Rice University, TX. He has an impressive body of peer reviewed research (though he's not above dishonestly inflating that). His fame has nothing to do with that work. He is well known in creationist circles because of his smear campaign aimed at evolutionary biology and Origin of Life research. His work involves neither. His 700 odd papers have at least two things in common- NONE has anything to do with OoL or evolution- and NONE has been read by his claque of drooling sycophants.
      He claimed to have found serious flaws in peer reviewed research by Jack Szostak. Had he a shred of professional integrity he'd submit a rebuttal/ correction to the journal in question- in this case THE top tier journal "Nature". Did he do that? Of course he didn't. He headed to a congregation of Southern Baptists to bask in their pig-ignorant cackling, whooping and hollering as he "debunked" those liars in lab coats whose discoveries contradicted their myths. He called the ENTIRE FIELD liars! He singled out Jack Szostak for special abuse. Pointing to a Nature article he proceeded to have a hysterical screaming fit that this PEER REVIEWED PAPER was so simplistic and insubstantial only in OoL could they get away with it. "THOSE ARRRRR NAAAAHT SHOOOOGARRRSSSS!!!!!!" "HEEEEZZZZZ LIIEEEEEYYYINGGGG TOOOO YOOOOO". An utterly disgraceful and despicable spectacle from any grown adult let alone a professional scientist.
      Of course, it turned out that Tour was LIEEEYIIINGGGGGG. The paper in question was an expository TWO PAGE piece in a special section of Nature for a GENERAL AUDIENCE and NOT peer reviewed research. Tour was rightfully reamed by many scientists for his scandalous antics.....and he called Szostak to "apologise"....and then LIED ABOUT SZOSTAK'S RESPONSE. Tour has since doubled down on the lies about Szostak and added a new whopper claiming Szostak conceded the diagrams in the article were wrong and blamed the journal. Szostak said nothing of the sort- saying simply that the diagrams were simplified to where a general audience could get the gist of his research.
      Tour is or maybe WAS a distinguished scientist in his field. Outside of it- and OoL is FAR outside- he's an utter disgrace to his profession.

He said he was a Christian in so many words in this interview, and his conversion testimony is available on YT (Jews for Jesus I think). Moreover you had no reason to suppose it was true. In other words you stated as a fact something you had no evidence to support. In other words, you lied.
      "Actual belief only happens after one has already been saved by God."
      Your statement is in direct contradiction to Scripture:
      Heb 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
      (in the context of the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch) Acts 8:35-38 " Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him."
      Belief is a PREREQUISITE for salvation. There is not a scintilla of a hint in Scripture that the Holy Spirit gives the saved a new sort of BELIEF. Your soteriology is unscriptural, so I urge you to search the Scriptures regarding salvation to ensure that you are saved. If you need guidance in this matter, post your request on this thread. And ever after refrain from presuming to verbally excommunicate professing Christians with whom you disagree on peripheral matters. That both turns outsiders away from the kingdom and endangers your own soul. ""Judge not, that ye be not judged."
      The term "works" in the New Testament is shorthand for "works of righteousness", further defined as "good deeds that cost the doer something". Belief is not a "work" (Jas 2:19 "You believe that there is one God, you do well; even the demons believe and tremble.") Baptism is not a "work". Faith is not a "work". (It is a wonder that the last of these three should be confused given the lengths to which the New Testament goes to contrast faith and works.) The term is from the Pharisaic rabbis who, during the exile, devised an answer to what to do to atone for sin when there was no temple at which to offer sacrifices. Their answer was "works (of righteousness)". Paul had studied Pharisee theology (rabbinical Judaism today) under Gamaliel the elder (the most revered of rabbis). The Jews who were typically made elders in the churches the apostles planted also studied this curriculum. That is what "works" meant to them. Even today, in common parlance, we don't regard everything that can be done as "work" as you seem to construe it.

      Yes, absolutely, actual belief only happens AFTER one has already been saved. The problem is, you do not at all understand the Bible. You only understand the 100% apostate churches false gospel and fake christianity.
      If belief was a prerequisite for salvation then salvation is of the will and works of man. The exact opposite of what the Bible clearly teaches. Without mans actions (works) they would not be saved. Your fake salvation is 100% based on what you do. Without you doing something (working) you would not be saved.
      You have taken Jesus/God out and have put yourself in his place. Your fake salvation does not rely on God, it relies on you. How do you not understand this?
      You have no understanding what grace is nor what saved by grace actually means. This is because you remain spiritually dead and blind with no ability to understand scripture. You only know how to pervert scripture and misunderstand it.
      Everything you have stated here is unbiblical nonsense that has come from just another Biblically bankrupt counterfeit christian snared into the 100% apostate church and its counterfeit (antichrist) christianity.
      Again, JT is not a Christian nor is anyone that thinks he is. You are steeped in darkness, deception, and a 100% counterfeit (antichrist) christianity. Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

      @EXPOSING.THE.SATURNISTS Fallacies are Facts now? This is EXACTLY the kind of nonsense that is passed down from materialism/scientism.
      Name ONE invention that requires the belief in materialism or Darwinism in order for it to be made. Go on, I'll wait...
      The irony is that EVERY invention proves their theory wrong, in that it shows that mind/intelligence/thoughts(all metaphysical concepts) are absolutely required to make any sophisticated/complex system.
      Your views came about because you, whether purposely or subconsciously, associate scientific discovery with a particular scientific BELIEF(that everything can be explained via a materialistic worldview), and those are actually completely seperate things.
      You probably don't know that many of our greatest scientists were deeply religious/Christians. That's not a limitation. Recognizing that everything in this universe is beautifully designed is the REASON to investigate it! But here, maybe it's best put in Isaac Newton's own words:
      "This most beautiful system of the sun, planets and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being..."
      "I believe the more I study science, the more I believe in God."

      @EXPOSING.THE.SATURNISTS My my, for people who believe absolute nonsense such as a universe popping out of nothing, or that non-living matter gave rise to life... you guys sure are full of chatter. I'd be ashame to let anyone know I hold/support such a silly, illogical, utterly unscientific worldview. I'm glad that virtually all the great scientists of the past recognized design when it was right in their faces, rather than foolishly tried to explain it away.
      [Mary Schweitzer is as much a materialist Richard Dawkins, but we're not here to talk about her, or Mr Behe. Stay on topic].
      I asked you to name ONE invention where its creation requires materialistic or Darwinian principles. Just one. It's an observable fact that "mind/intellect" plays a part in EVERYTHING we create. Without an intelligence acting on matter, it has no desire to move toward life or complex purpose-driven systems.
      Then there's information, a metaphysical reality that is necessary for the software that runs most of our technology. It's a scientifically observable and repeatable fact that "minds" are the only known cause for the TYPE of information(language-based/code-based) we see in computer code or DNA. Who's the 'unscientific' one here again?
      You're the one who made the bold assertion that we owe the very technologies we now enjoy to the junk science these materialist scientists spout. So, you should have THOUSANDS of examples. I'm asking for JUST ONE!
      You're dilemma is that; junk science has no basis in reality. It's makes for nice grown-up fairy tale, and cute little images in texts books of half-fish-half-mammal creatures slithering out of the sea unto land, but it has no use in the reality we occupy. None whatsoever! That's WHY you can't give me a valid answer.

    • @Oryon7
      @Oryon7 Год назад

      @EXPOSING.THE.SATURNISTS
      Still waiting for that ONE example...
      While I wait, I'll entertain your comments one last time. I'll even throw in a real-time simulation/experiment for you.
      "A binary system. A series of electronic off and on switches. It is not a metaphysical state."
      The metaphysical reality of what drives our software is completely lost on you. It's right in your 'face,' and you are unable to acknowledge it.
      What do you suppose is missing from your little description? INFORMATION, perhaps?! You are making the same mistake most materialists do. They see the medium as the information. On/off switches don't ascribing meaning, neither the chemical composition of paper & ink, nor chalk and chalkboards, nor nucleotides along the double helix. Minds do! Those are all mediums on which MINDS inscribe meaningful information. No mind = no intelligent information. So when ever you see intelligent information, it is a scientifically proven fact that a mind was present. Let's test this...
      Here's a string of character...
      "eHt itapmecylhas fanritinomo s!i eyk"
      Here's another string...
      "The metaphysical information is key!"
      Nothing about how the binary switches - in our computers - work suddenly changed. Even the size of the data in both strings, and the electrical energy to send it would have been virtually identical. Yet, somehow, there was a MONUMENTAL DIFFERENCE in the information sent.
      One is gibberish, and the other conveys intelligence information typically associated with language and code. We can't even quantify that difference, or why such an incalculable difference would take the same effort to inscribe as the gibberish. This is the metaphysical nature of information.
      Whether you realize it or not, there's something fundamentally flawed (intentionally foolish, even) when anyone attempts to explain the phenomenon of purposed information while denying the one entity we KNOW is able to convey and interpret that type of information. Mind!
      I'm doing you a friendly favor here by even entertaining beliefs/ideas that are contrary to reality. You can continue to deny the very reality you live in, what intelligent information alludes to... or, you can pause for a minute, and actually think deeply about what you believe, and what others have shared/contested. I have to move on.
      And no, I never actually expected to get that ONE example.

Progress in this field can only be appreciated if those involved have a common quest of TRUTH and there is no underlying subversive goal, such funding or notoriety on the subject. As I have followed Dr. Tour over the years, it is quite surprising, the population of people who are not in pursuit of TRUTH and do not place TRUTH above all else. This misplacing of TRUTH in the hierarchy of advancing science seems to doom potential progress and derails arguments. This subject exposes who submits to TRUTH and seeks to declare TRUTH. Creating a truth is not the same as arriving at "the" truth.

      Do you believe Tour applies the same rigorous devotion to science/evidence when he proclaims his belief in Biblical truth? Or, do you believe be accepts what appears to be a collection of myths in the old testament without critical examination? The Origin of Life scientists are wrong to inject their own "faith" in their research and exaggerate their findings/evidence. But isn't it interesting that Tour chooses to use a different measure when evaluating Christianity? If he believes in God, I get it. His research points to perhaps a Godly origin - which is cool. But to proclaim he believes he knows exactly which God did it? Wow. How is Tour, as you phrased it, not "creating a truth" himself?

That would also be a very interesting question-whether and how we could contact him. Were many of his kind involved? Do they do this regularly in other universes? What was the purpose of his work? Was it intentional, or was it a byproduct? What does these creatures look like? How do they live? This would bring us closer to the answer of whether there are others like us in the universe. Great discussion! This question of what do evolutionists say about how did the first life form get created has been on my mind for the last few weeks. Great timing. The other day, I mentioned to my family that I felt that neither evolutionists nor believers have a satisfying answer to this question of how did life begin. In the case of evolutionists, their theories appear utterly impossible from many perspectives. Also, how impossible it is to me to intellectually grasp how The Divine is without beginning and without ending. However, I trust the Holy Spirit, which has testified to me many many times of the reality of The Divine and of His love.

    • @VFXShawn
      @VFXShawn Год назад +3

      This might help you grasp God intellectually: either everything came from nothing (impossible), or something always existed by necessity of its own nature. Whatever always existed by necessity must be infinite in nature, since only something infinite can exist eternally, as being eternal is itself an infinite quality. So we know with certainty something infinite/eternal/necessary exists, and is the basis for all other contingent/dependent/finite things, such as our existence and universe which had a beginning. So, we can conclude with absolute certainty God exists, necessarily and infinitely, and is the cause of the universe and by extension, life itself.

    • @VFXShawn
      @VFXShawn Год назад +1

      @M Holla If you think there is a reason outside of God's own necessary nature for God's own existence, then that greater reason would be greater than God, and that would be God, not God himself, which is impossible logically. God's own reason for existing, and the answer you seek, is found in the nature of God itself. The nature of God is existence itself, God is the great "I am" (Exodus 3:14), He is, that is the nature of His being, and why He can cause other things to exist that previously did not. God is pure being, the ultimate reality, and without God, there would no reality. It might also help you to realize 'nothing' can not exist, only something that does exist can exist, so if you are wondering why does anything exist rather than nothing, it is because nothingness can not exist by its own definition, it is non-existence. Only things with existence as a necessary quality would exist necessarily by its own nature (God), and all other things that exist but do not do so necessarily derive their existence from that necessary being that does exist and can give existence to things that are not necessary, such as the universe.

Next time I see an origin of life researcher I am going to offer to give them a million litres of "primordial soup" and ask them to document the progress until a fully formed human being is made!

      You should show them how your god POOFS things into existence! That will teach them!

      Sorry but the Scripture doesn't have a verb like poof. Rather, it says He spoke things into existence . He said, Let there be...and there was. He is very powerful

    Thank you DR Tour for " dumbing down " to my level of understanding of your adopted scientific subject . Thanks also to Socrates in the city and Eric a fine host and moderator .👍

      It isn’t his subject. He’s a synthetic organic chemist. He has published absolutely NOTHING on Origin of Life Research. He has debased and disgraced himself lying about the scientists who do work on it and sneering at work that, despite his lies, is WAY outside his field of expertise.
      He is an utter disgrace to his profession

    Dr Tour is amazing and spot on about the scientific community

    • @mcmanustony
      @mcmanustony Год назад +1

      Actually he's a discredited lying fanatic who has damaged his reputation considerably with ludicrous publicity stunts and despicable slander of fellow scientists.
      "spot on about the scientific community"- he slandered Professor Jack Szostak in a hysterical screaming fit to an audience of drooling cackling, southern Baptissts- not a demographic known for scientific literacy. He then called Szostak to "apologise", then dug in on the lies and added more lies about Szostak "conceding" his points in the call.
      He is an utter fucking disgrace to his profession.
      Try to raise your standards.

    David Berlinski is another genius among thiese type of guests, and Dr Tour is very courageous and very gifted to work in such complex endeavours. Surely blessed by God.

      "David Berlinski is another genius" HahahaHAHA
      Berlinski:
      bachelors- mathematics
      phd- philosophy research career- none
      research publications- none
      popular publications- ridiculed and mostly out of print
      employment history- series of low level temporary teaching jobs and fired from almost all, now a geriatric sock puppet for the right wing propaganda mill, the ill-named Discovery Institute.
      "genius" hahahah

    It would be nice to have more scientists telling the truth about what they actually know. I watch and listen to all of them and they’re very good at sounding like they have it figured out.

    Eric Metaxas I am so blessed by your podcast. You have brought so many wonderful people into my life, including you. I love the wide variety (science, world events, faith, etc) of high caliber guests. Ken Fish especially rocked my world. My only critique would be to be careful with the humor. No matter how loving the intent, people don’t enjoy being made fun of. 😬 It becomes a distraction from the brilliant ministry work you are doing. God bless you and your beautiful wife.🙏🏽❤️

    When you don’t go along with what the world system is teaching, that the only things that are important are money, power and fame, they insult you and ostracize, and shun. But you will sleep well with the agreement that makes peace with God possible.
