I think what annoys me is how billy learns that his mom abandoned him near the end, like wouldn’t the point be that when billy learns this, the rest of the movie is about him connecting with his foster family? It seems like all of a sudden they are really close, when near the climax they still weren’t too connected

This is funny but if DC is going to continue making decent funny and good films they got to stop with the rewrites, any writer should write pages of drafts ideas for the script before making a final decision during pre- production, after coming with a completed script they should use it with confidence without making any last minute sudden changes during filming.
Honestly, it's not as surprising as it is concerning. I remember the transition from elementary to middle school was like going from Disney Land to prison. Everybody seemed to think they had an expectation of "adult hood" to live up to, which is why a hand-full of young women in my middle school actually did get pregnant just because of peer pressure. Considering this movie has a bit of similar concepts to Jeremy’s books(Kids with disabilities and nontypical childhoods getting superpowers and fighting evil) I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a soft spot for this movie and therefore gave it the honor of a quick release. Just an assumption though, I could be completely wrong lol
I know, I loved him as "Chuck" and "Flynn Rider", but "Shazam" was a perfect casting choice for him, in that he pulled off being an excitable teenager in an adult superhero's body to sheer perfection!⚡🙌

Even things like the fact that there is a huge Big homage and Rocky references, when, to be honest, most teenagers like Billy have never seen Rocky. Remember Rocky was released in 1976 - Assuming Billy was 15 in this film that it takes place in 2018, that means he was born in 2003. (God I feel old now) meaning that Rocky was made 27 years before Billy was born. Most kids don't watch classics like that in the modern-day.

How to properly clean your metal computer agreed. After BvS I was a bit let down from DC, Wonder Woman kind of fixed it for me, then Justice league & aquaman were so cringingly bad I refuse to see another DC movie in theaters... I will ONLY watch them when they’re available to rent or free to watch. Shazam however was a bit of a shock and I was very happy it turned out a funny & good movie.

I agree. I'm sick of foster parenting always being portrait rather negative. When it comes to cats and dogs everybody is like "adopt don't shop!" but it's okay to leave kids in orphanages and rather have own kids?! That's horrible. This movie followed the MCU formula so closely that it actually threw me off a bit that the guard WASN'T Stan Lee at first, and I had to actively remind myself that this was, in fact, a DCEU movie. (it also doesn't help that itssomerandomguy has been posting a bunch of his DC/Marvel parody crossover videos right before I watched this movie and they've been featuring Shazam interacting with Marvel characters heavily.)
Deserved to have at least one sin taken off for the scene where Billy finds his mother - genuinely emotional and gut wrenching scene in a DC movie which is also damned funny at times too. That's impressive!

Even things like the fact that there is a huge Big homage and Rocky references, when, to be honest, most teenagers like Billy have never seen Rocky. Remember Rocky was released in 1976 - Assuming Billy was 15 in this film that it takes place in 2018, that means he was born in 2003. (God I feel old now) meaning that Rocky was made 27 years before Billy was born. Most kids don't watch classics like that in the modern-day.

After BvS I was a bit let down from DC, Wonder Woman kind of fixed it for me, then Justice league & aquaman were so cringingly bad I refuse to see another DC movie in theaters... I will ONLY watch them when they’re available to rent or free to watch.

This movie followed the MCU formula so closely that it actually threw me off a bit that the guard WASN'T Stan Lee at first, and I had to actively remind myself that this was, in fact, a DCEU movie.
