Upgraded my cpu after about two years, this video saved me as I was so lost as to why I couldnt screw it in, turns out I forgot about the backplate lol, if your upgrading your CPU make sure you have someone who can hold the back plate so you dont have to take your mobo out
This week I bought a 5600X and an MSI Tomahawk II Max... trying to fit the CPU scared the crap out of me - nothing made sense. Took me ages to realise I was ok and they had put some very odd blocks in the way. Got there eventually but it was certainly a journey. Those clamps really should be part of the kit, not pre fitted.
@@OdinHardware Sorry, yes it was - did i fail to click the clicky thing? I thought I did. Anyway, yes, useful. Hey just watching videos of this to decide whether I can do it myself. Question: I'm not quite sure what is meant by "retain the backplate" at 2:59. Is that part of the existing motherboard or did it come with the processor?
@@OdinHardware Thanks. Turns out Memory Express (Canada) will install the processor for free as long as I buy (at least) the motherboard from them-which is a nice surprise.
Yeah I agree I think the part where you store away the backplate for later use but then there’s a backplate on the mobo again when installing the wraith is a lil confusing. Awesome video, thanks! 👍
Nice video. Gonna get my 5600X next week and boy it's been a hard wait. Currently I got i7-4770k which is still pretty good, but no match for the 5600X.
@xdayvj i learned about this lol, u gotta take the back part of the pc off, it comes off and then there is a rectangular piece already attached to the pc so just put it in those 4 wholes
Ya'll also get 60 degrees Celsius on idle? I also got 95 on full load. I used to get blue screens from time to time. I re-installed the cpu first removing the thermal paste it came with and applied with a good thermal paste. It gained 15 degrees of difference maxing at 80-81 degrees running the cinebench. So the pre applied paste is shyte I guess. But 80 still seems a lot to me. No?
nice video mate just wanted to tell i recently lapped my 8700k,when i put it back in the mobo i started having RAM issues turns out i tightened the cpu too hard that it caused unexpected issues. now i just tighten the screws on my cpus 80% and it's the same temperature just no risk of damage
@@OdinHardware Once the 5600X is fitted, do we need to go to the BIOS or anything to install it etc? Or will it just work staright away. I already have the motherboard ready for it.
Yeah not recommended to leave the stock thermal paste on the stock cooler. When it came time to remove the stock cooler years later. I ripped the cpu out of the socket. The thermal compound acted like glue. I would say replace it with noctua or mx-4. This is why AM5 latches will be welcome. I actually think amd should of changed to latches over the cpu with b550 and x570. Also really hate the stock cooler mounting system. Such a pain in the butt.
@@jibini7216 I've tried that and the time it takes to remove the stock cooler it is a sticky substance that bonds pretty well to the IHS. Had to use a hair dryer to warm the thermal paste enough to remove the cpu. That has some pucker power for sure.

When i put my PC parts in a pc builder simulator online it says that i will have comparability issues with my ryzen 5 5600x i want to use the motherboard asus x570 plus but it says something about a BIOS update? what does that mean exactly
The x570 was produced before the 5600x and thus incompatible until you update its bios (basic input output system).
