    I actually really really loved the dark and dying athmosphere of DS3. It makes the world look way more eerie and it very much fits the challenge you're going through. Also the main game had some great looking areas too, for example the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. Plus the bosses look by far the best out of the 3 games. Yhorm, the Nameless King and even High Lord Wolnir all just got great design.

      I have to agree. It ds3 was my first souls game and the environment intrigued me so much it made me go back and play the others. After doing so, I would suggest dark souls 3 to be easily the best of the series overall.

    well, in my opinion Dark Souls 3 is the best one. The quality of this game is much much higher than any other game in the series. It's mainly because the fan service didn't strike me as much because it was a good kind of fan service, nothing really felt unnecesarry for me and the quality of game is something we get in exchange for only shorter story. I love DS3 and it will always be one of my favourite games ever.

    DS3 is my favorite Souls game. Now, I'll praise DS1 all day long for its brilliant design philosophy, it's solid enemy design and excellent combat, but there's one aspect of the game I can't forgive; it's unfinished. Looking at all the cut content and seeing what could have been in the game, plus the areas like Lost Izalith and Ash Lake that could have been so much more, makes me wonder what the game could have been if they'd be given more time to develop it. Is DS3 a perfect game? No, but at least it feels finished. I feel satisfied with what I got. With DS1, thinking about what could have been rather than what I actually have severely detracts from the overall experience. As much as I love DS1, I can't bring myself to say it's the best in the series for that one simple reason.

    Crazy to put DS3 at the bottom. Crazy! Sure the world isn't as interconnected as DS1, but the individual areas are so fantastically designed, it has the best bosses of the Souls series, it has the smoothest combat, and the most refined mechanics. The way it wraps up the lore of the world, especially with the DLC, is beautiful. Yes it has issues with the multiplayer and I understand why people complain about it being too fan-service-y, but if you look at the Souls games without nostalgia goggles on, I think there's a strong argument that DS3 is the best in the series.

    I mean technically Firelink Shrine IS part of the world. You get to it from the Consumed King's Garden in Lothric Castle, but you can't get back from there because you drop down into it. But if you go to the Cemetery of Ash and to the spot where you'd drop from the Consumed King's Garden into the Untended Graves, you can see the tunnel that you'd access it from. Firelink Shrine is in the present, and the dark version in the Untended Graves is in the past, as is the rest of the game.
    Hunters' Dream is a bit different, but it does have a version of it that you access from the Church Workshop Tower in the Cathedral Ward, so it gives it some semblance of a location within the world.

Since he couldn't link the fire and his firekeeper was dead he was made the "Iudex" which basically means judge, so by defeating Iudex in the present, we prove ourselves worthy of linking the first flame

      @twistedgwazi5727 3 года назад +11

      What you're doing here is taking two of his arguments, massively simplifying them, then contorting them to make them sound ridiculous. That's called a straw man and it ruins your argument. Allow me to counter.
      Not all fanservice is bad, most people agree the Soul of Cinder is excellent as a callback due to its narrative logic and the fact that it stands out while making people remember an extremely memorable part of DS1. However, DS3 absolutely overdid this kind of thing to the point of it being to the game's detriment, virtually every single area is a reference to DS1 and if the area itself isn't a direct reference then there is something in there that is. Examples include Firelink Shrine, High Wall and Undead Settlement are both similar to the Burg (the Settlement taking the idea and the High Wall taking the look and feel), Farron Keep, Catacombs of Carthus, Smouldering Lake being literally made up of Ash Lake and the Demon Ruins, Irithyll and Anor Londo.
      His issue there is that it doesn't need to bear the name "Firelink Shrine" if it's something completely different. I understand they were named that way because they are shrines to link the fire, but that is still a direct connection to the original that wasn't needed. Something like the name "Shrine of Lords" or anything less generic than that. Either go all in on the reference or don't make the reference. The way it is now is extremely unsatisfying because it's clear they only called it Firelink Shrine that so the DS fanboys could cum in their pants a little from it. It has no lore or story connection, it's just pure fan pandering.

    I'm a bit late on this and probably no ones ever reading this, but I want to give my thoughts on your points because it's quite interesting to me how much we differ in our opinions about this game.
    To give kind of a backstory on my thoughts, my first Souls game was Dark Souls 3, I never touched Dark Souls 2 and found Dark Souls 1 to be too old (mechanic wise) for me to enjoy it. Bloodborne I only played a bit via PSnow or whatever its called (this streaming thing from Playstation) and Sekiro I played for I think 30 hours or so.
    So my main game of this franchise is Dark Souls 3 (I just recently hit 105 hours or so) and it's also my first experience with these kinds of games.
    So if u wonder why I see certain things the way I do, that's probably why, Fanservice doesn't matter to me, because frankly, I don't know whats an homage and whats not ^^
    So here we go:
    Hate#1:
    Yea the dogs are absolutely terrible, I think no one's gonna argue about that. Even to me the filthy casual they are just annoying, and I abuse the Quit Reset quite often just to get rid of them.
    Love#1:
    Like I said I really can't say too much about Fanservice, but I fully agree that it's a blast playing through the first time. I will never forget beating Watchers, Nameless, Gael or even the fcking Greatwood (even tho it's terrible lol).
    Hate#2:
    Idk about this one. I have to strongly disagree. Dark Souls 1 isn't a well-rounded experience. At least that's what u said in many videos. The second half is terrible and many bosses seemed quite uninspired and mechanic wise old. (At least that's the impression I get from your videos)
    And I am quite glad DS3 exists because it's by far the most enjoyable experience for me. But I'm no series Veteran so I really can't say how much exactly is repeated here.
    But what from what I saw (again based on your Videos):
    Bosses seem rather different in every game, except maybe second phase Cinder or Midir.
    The setting while similar feel way different. I feel like both these games have quite different approaches to the end of the fire stuff.
    Areas also feel different, even those who return. Anor Londo looks completely different, color tone wise. Swamps are shit in every game.
    So I really can't see your problem with uninspired.
    Also, your expectations of so many different franchises are just not realistic. That's not how companies work. They can't just create different settings over and over and over in just a few years. How many years do you think they took for Bloodborne just to get the setting right? Or how many for the souls series? Or even for Sekiro? Wasn't it like 5 years just for that idea and game?
    And also you quite forget that FromSoft games are extremely deep lore-wise and stuff. You can't expect them to keep this level of quality when they need to invent completely new franchises every few years.
    What I also don't get: You say DS3 feels way too much like DS1 clone, but in the same sentence you say you feel like they made it a way faster more bloodborne like experience. So they did change they fcking core gameplay loop speed-wise? That's a pretty huge difference.
    Hate#3:
    No identity? Generic? Mate in which world do u live that this game is generic? You know whats generic? Ubisoft games. They are exactly the same, open worlds with nothing in them and the only motivation is a family member. You know whats generic? CoD getting re-released every year or Fifa. That's generic. What's not generic is this game. Not one FromSoft game is generic.
    Every single one of them has a purpose and huge and good and well thought out lore. Well balanced combat and gameplay. Interesting visuals. Even good music that's quite unique in every game.
    Dark Souls 3 is as generic as Dark Souls 1. Both tell a story. Ofc Dark Souls 1 invented the franchise, BUT Dark Souls 3 expanded on it, with completely new lords of cinder, new factions, expanded lore on older things (Nameless beeing the son of Gwynn)
    Saying Generic to any FromSoft game is honestly disrespectful af and completely unreasonable, objectively speaking.
    And only because u can't seem to take your nostalgia goggles off, doesn't mean this game has no identity. That's just bs.
    And what's that about nothing new in the game?
    -
    Revamped, faster Dark Souls combat?
    Weapon Arts (which are fcking useful, ofc there is trash like in every game, but stuff like the Moonlight Greatsword or Twinblades have fcking amazing Weapon Arts, even the Watchers weapon has a really good one. You just need to learn when to use most of them, and when not.)
    New bosses with new Mechanics? Completly new movesets? Fewer bs like in the other games? (ofc there is still bs, but at least no Ratking or Butterfly)
    New areas?
    I think an overhauled upgrade system, at least it seemed kinda different to DS1 from what I've seen, but not sure.
    Like you said much more lore to explore.
    And one of the greatest achievements of DS3 is the Availability. Like the game actually tried to teach me how it works. In DS1 I got randomly punished for not knowing weird shit like that dude who will kill the firekeeper who upgrades my estus or so. The Tutorial Boss is sooo much better than in DS1. He actually teaches you how to fight in this game, not this stiff demon who can't even move properly. At no point did I feel lost, though I constantly had to watch my surroundings and had to think about where to get next at times. In DS1 it's just this open-ended mess where I don't know where to go and what I have to get to get further into the game and stuff. Like really, the game did a terrible job at explaining stuff that's important.
    Sure it's more linear than DS1, but that's not a bad thing, in fact, I think it makes the game better. But ofc that's subjective.
    And every fcking Souls game I have seen is R1 Spam to easy win. But that's your choice. You can also just run it down with Twinblades, but that's boring, it's your choice. But that's nothing new lol.
    Hate#4:
    Uhm? What? Not pleasing to look at? You want to tell me that Irythill is horrible? Or Anor Londo, which is from your beloved DS1? Or the Ringed city? The Gael Arena? The Painted World?
    The Watchers Arena? Even Undead Settlement has some beautiful shots? Or what about Archdragons Peak? Lothric Castle? The Firebond shrine? The dark variant?
    Sure we have some horrible things like Farron Keep or some other stuff, but then again, DS1 has Blight Town, the lava hell and stuff. Like cmon mate. Bloodborne is also tonally completely dark and the whole world is basically different grey tones, but it's still beautiful. Same goes for Dark Souls 3.
    Like I know that's subjective, but you can't tell me you find Bloodborne attractive (which it is no doubt) but dislike DS3.
    Hate#5:
    You even say it's thematic and fits the game. Like what's your problem? ^^
    Maybe it's not even meant to be that hard of an homage, except for the name, because its lore-wise the spot were an ashen one meets up with his firekeeper?
    You can even see this in the tower to your left where all the old Firekeepers were thrown into when their Ashen One failed.
    And there beeing 5 thrones makes total sense, because there are 5 dudes that you have to collect (except for Luddleth since he chills there already)
    Sure you can dislike the tunnel design because it's not DS1 but than again you even say you don't like that DS3 "copies" so much of DS1, but when it does something different it's also bad? Like, decide what you want mate.
    And again they changed the Hub World design and u complain that they changed it after complaining DS3 does too much like DS1 did. WHAT TF U WANT FROM THIS GAME ^^
    Also, Gundyr is meant to be the challenge for you to overcome, so it makes sense the Sword he drops enables you to go ahead in the story. He's meant to test you. And I for one felt very comfy in Firelink shrine, but I understand that's also very subjective.
    And again, you say what Dark Souls is for, and they changed that dramatically in DS3. And you dislike it. After complaining, like I mentioned 3000 times that DS3 feels too samey. It can't be that much same if you constantly say that it changed too much. Mate pls. Your videos are so well done normally, here you are just constantly mixing stuff up.
    I won't comment on the loves, because I agree with them.
    And honestly, this took longer than expected. I need to sleep lol
    In summary, I love your videos, don't get me wrong and critique is a good thing, but it felt like you bashed the game for not being Dark Souls 1 and for being Dark Souls 1. You bashed it for contradicting stuff.
    On one hand, it feels too samey on the other it differs too much. Makes no sense to me really.
    Even tho I agree to some extent on your hates, but for me, they apply to mostly all of the games at some points, and at some points not, I really wouldn't say that any game FromSoft put out felt bad or even mediocre.
    Just compared to the general gaming industry their games are always a breath of fresh air and I think this got a bit underappreciated in this video.
    In the end, it's your opinion ofc, and I won't hold you back from having it, but please next time read through your script again, this felt so unfinished and not at all like your other videos.
    But than again I doubt you'll ever read this, so I just wasted nearly 2 hours of my life for this ^^
    Send help xD

      A bit of correction my friend. The upgrade system that is seen in three was introduced in ds2, now ds3.
      As for my own opinions, I just don't know how to feel about Ds3, I definitely like it, but after my first playthrough, everytime I try to get back into it, I end up dropping it partway through, don't know why. The bosses are definitely at their highest point, even if I do prefer fighting many of the ones in bloodborne, but other than refighting the bosses, I don't really have a reason to replay the game. There are so many builds I wish to try, but so many of them are just... not good in ds3. Faith, Magic, and Pyromancy builds were all essentially dumpstered, while in ds2, I feel like I can just think of any build, and I can make it work within the game. TO me, I just don't know how to feel on it, it felt good the first time i played, but painfully average on repeat runs.

    Dks2 gets shit on for being linear.. wut?!! From the start you have 4 differen paths to choose (All of which you could skip and instead farm a million souls to go throug the shrione of winter). Then you had a somewhat linear path where you first went to the undead crypt to get the ring, so you could go to aldias keep and get the heart. But after that you had alot of optional areas that had opened up to you (The dlc's, the memories and the darkchasm areas). you could even go to the location of the final boss before going to aldias keep and fight the throne defender and watcher before going to Aldias keep. Dks2 was seriously not linear, you could always make choises in where to go next.

    • @gingerqueer22
      @gingerqueer22 6 лет назад +3

      Expect the individual areas were all linear, straightforward pathways.

    • @rasmusfesterlingsrensen6686
      @rasmusfesterlingsrensen6686 6 лет назад +19

      In that aspect, dks2 was more linear and straigforward (excluding the awesome dlc's). But dks3 has just as linear individual areas, and sorely lacks an open world. Therefore dks2 is way more open and free than dks3 which feels like one long linear pathway of areas, with only a few branches (Even fewer of them optional).

    • @KKKuma
      @KKKuma 6 лет назад +1

      DS3 is that at the beginning but the more you go the more branches it gets. there are tons of way in later level like Road of Sacrifice or in the Catacombs and if you don't pay attention, you will miss many many thing. There are more space to explore. Ds2 like the previous guy said, it's very linear. You just need to run forward follow the path and even though you have no sense of direction, you will still end up in your destination.
      The only things people complain about the connectivity of DS 3 is the hub area and the first lothric castle. After that it gets better

    • @rasmusfesterlingsrensen6686
      @rasmusfesterlingsrensen6686 6 лет назад +14

      I am sorry but that is a blatant lie... Try watching a progression map for dks11, dks 2 and then dks3... Dks1 and 2 is way more diverse copared to dks3 which has VERY few options in how you want to progress... In dks2 you have NINE options of first boss... in dks3 you have a meek 2 (Excluding gundyr)... And that pattern continues. Ýeah there may be two or three branches, but they cannot in anyway copare to dks1 or dks2...

    Personally as someone who's put thousands of hours into Each game, alone. My ranking would be,
    5. Dark Souls 2- Many may boo, while others may cheer. The fact remains is I still love this game, It is great fun. However, the sluggish feel, ruins it in comparison to the fluid and tight feeling combat of the other games. It also feels the least interesting lore wise. While Aldia, and Loyce I find entertaining, and top notch, and the Dark Queens having potential, It all feels like it was untapped. This game also has the most BS-Boss design, with the lowest lows(Ancient Dragon, Yes I've killed him dozens of times. Still doesn't make him any less... Boring.) While putting off Invincibility frames to a stat, Was also a terrible decision. It does however have some great bosses. I just find it having the lowest lows, with the fewest highs.
    4. Demon's Souls- This will be controversial. However, As much as I adore the game of Demon Souls, It is easily the least balanced of all the games, You can break it in so many ways , it's laughable. While this is obviously because of it being the first of the series, that doesn't mean we ignore the faults to put it higher. The bosses also, were obviously the prototypes for every single one of their later ones, and while there were a few gems(Allant, Flamelurker, Penetrator) There were also many misses. Still fantastic game and deserves respect for starting it all in the least.
    3. Dark Souls 3- While it does feel less inspired compared to many of the others in the series, The level design is great(World design being nonexistent unfortunately), The bosses, are the second greatest in the series, arguably the best. And it has the highest highs, with also the highest lows, with bosses. The worst bosses being in it, Deacons of the Deep, Being decent. and dull at worst. However it's lack of creativity, is what keeps it from being near the top. Even with it's fantastic gameplay.
    2. Dark Souls- Yes the latter half of the game has room to be desired, But I feel people exaggerate how bad the second half is. Dukes Archives is a great area. With the spinning staircases, and invisible walk ways. The Tomb of Giants, while a hell hole compared to blight town, Is so interestingly, and you while it can take a new player, hours upon hours to get through it, A good player can do so in less than a minute, which I find good design. Lost Izalith is shit. Agreed. And New Londo, isn't bad, It's ghost enemies make for a very terrifying first experience, while being easy once you figure them out. It's decent to say the least. You add in the DLC and it has the beginning of bloodbornes conception within it. With Fantastic bosses such as Manus and Kalameet.
    1. Bloodborne- It's basically Dark Souls 1, But better, and having the best traits of 3. It's lore and atmosphere is on par with Demon's souls. It's combat is on par with Dark Souls 3, It's World and level design on par with Dark Souls 1. The only thing it hurts at is, Build Diversity, and even that is only negligible. It truly takes the greatest parts of each series. And is a truly a masterpiece in my opinion.

Plus the darkwraiths, while a huge pain because of their high damage, make for fun enemies in ds1

    I'm going to keep this short and simple, but Dark Souls 3 was my first souls game. Putting Nostalgia aside, I believe the excellent lore of a prince rejecting his "birthright" to become a Lord of Cinder and the very fluid and the diverse combat is very engaging. For this reason, here's how my list would go:
    (5) Demon's Souls (because of its age, c'mon, it's 6 years old, remake it already)
    (4) Dark Souls 2 (Comparitively shitty lore, but the combat is very polished and the sotfs edition is just beautiful)
    (3) Dark Souls 1 ( Very good 1st half, average 2nd half, if it was remade, then it would be number 1 in my book)
    (2) Bloodborne (while some bosses are extremely good, about 1/3 are average or below, and really no build variety is enough to keep this at 2)
    (1) Dark Souls 3 (Very enngaging combat, lore, and area design. The Dlc's are very strong and well-rounded)

      @@Zakaker Yes there is few stat variety but the weapons vary wildly. Unlike dark souls which basically has 8 base weapons then 200 slight variants or even exact copies that just have higher or lower damage.
      There is weight in BB it's just more of a hidden stat. More you equip the less your stamina regens and I THINK you might be slightly slower.
      People just think their build is entirely different when in reality they might be able to tank 1 more hit or look slightly different. Demon's Souls probably had the most variety out of them all simply because things like regen were actually viable. When they are no longer in DS3.

    • @Zakaker
      @Zakaker 4 года назад

      @@Bourikii2992 As I explained in my comment, the lack of creativity you can have with stats management is exactly the problem. I love the variety of weapons BB offers to the player, and I've addressed it as well. Comparing DS1 with DS3, the first has far fewer weapons than the latter, but they all feel unique with their movesets (except for some rare cases such as the Dragon Tooth and the Great Club, which is a straight up better version of the first) and physical differences, most importantly, range. I'd say DS1 is in balance between BB and DS3, which, however, compensates the enormous amount of similar weapons with the WA system. DS2 feels like it has even less movesets than DS3, but it has the Power Stance system, which changes attack pattern depending on what weapons you hold in which hand. I've never had the chance to play DeS, so I can't speak for it, but I'd say that in DS1 equipment weight makes an enormous difference in playstyle. I played DS3, where fat roll is almost useless considering how little of an advantage it gives you, before buying DS1, so even in that game I stuck with mid roll until O&S. My original intention was to make a heavily armored, greataxe-wielding warrior while still maintaining my eq. load under 50%. However, at the time, I had neither enough endurance nor any useful rings to wear medium armor, let alone the only heavy set I had (Havel's). After getting frustrated with O&S, though, I decided to try Havel's full armor set and oh boy. I could finally withstand enemy attacks without getting interrupted all the time, and I had so much defense I could even tank Smough's attacks. It felt like having constantly active Perseverance. When I finally beat the bosses (though, I won't lie, I had to summon a friend because I still felt it was unfair at times) I made up my mind and decided to go full Havel and embrace fat rolling. I never actually got the chance to use the shield until extremely late in the game, but even wielding just the Great Club (yeah, I used a different weapon because, as I said, Dragon Tooth sucks) 2H felt like the game had turned into a piece of cake. The kind of cake you crush with a greathammer without flinching a bit. In DS3, on the other hand, I didn't need to think twice before choosing to discard fat roll as an option, since the absorption difference is not that high and armor poise is almost useless. I've only -played- finished* DS2 once, so I don't know much about the viability of "fat" builds in that game. Once, I created a light armored, dual-wielding character, but I dropped that playthrough before killing the Pursuer.
      By the way, I didn't know about the "hidden weight" system in BB. I checked on the Internet and, apparently, it's a thing. I stopped bothering about armor stats in that game after a while and simply focused on fashion, but it's nice to know. You learn something new everyday, I guess. Thanks for the information.
      *Edit: I should specify that I only _finished_ DS2 once, and that the dual-wielding guy was my second character.

    Dark Souls, Demon Souls and Dark Souls 2 all had the same problem of most of their bosses being absolute shite. sure the areas were nice and the lore was interesting but the combat was way too slow

      Agreed

    • @gingerqueer22
      @gingerqueer22 6 лет назад +16

      Let's agree to disagree. DS3's combat is smooth as hell, but I found it to be horribly unbalanced compared to its predecessors. The gist of combat in DS1/DS2 was "Light is for dodge-spammers, Mid is for balanced characters, Heavy is for poise tanks". In DS3, by contrast, Light is for mad people, Mid is for people who actually want to beat the game, and Heavy is for those who don't know about what happened to poise.
      And I hate, _hate_ that they got rid of armor upgrades in favor of mass-leveling Vitality. All that ends up happening is you take way too much damage per hit for the entirety of a playthrough and have to keep buying and swapping out armor. It's actually the main reason why Lightweight builds just aren't viable in DS3.
      And before you say anything, BB got away with it because of how Blood Vials worked (they restored a set percentage of your health and you could hold up to 25 of them) and because of how much shit you had to get to upgrade _one_ weapon in BB.
      Besides that, it still has the "dude in armor" problem that DS2 had (though it's nowhere near as prolific as it was in that game). The whole thing feels like an uninspired tribute, which is quite ironic when you consider how the series was a bold breath of fresh air when it released.
      What's that about DS1 and DeS having "shite bosses"? Plenty of them were easy or simple, sure, but shite? There's only one or two I would call genuinely awful. Besides, DS3 had its share of crap bosses *cough*Ancient Wyvern*cough*.
      Oh, and Ludwig just isn't that hard. git gud.

    My ranking of the soulsborne series would be:
    5. ds2 (either vanilla or sotfs, I hate the clunky combat and lame boss design)
    4. DeS (good level design, but most bosses are mediocre at best and combat also feels clunky)
    3. Ds3 ( has very linear world design, too much bonfires and is a bit uninspired but has very fluid combat and is filled with awesome bosses)
    2. Ds1 (by far best world and level design and feels original)
    1. BB (amazing atmosphere and lore, fantastic bosses and of course... trick weapons!)

    • @HenriXplayer
      @HenriXplayer 6 лет назад +3

      About DS2, was your problem to do with iFrames? Because if so, that has to do with how you leveled your character.

    • @sirpotato9052
      @sirpotato9052 6 лет назад +2

      BB had the same frequency of bonfires as DS3. And BB is more linear. BB had the worst lore and atmosphere other than 2.

    • @gingerqueer22
      @gingerqueer22 6 лет назад +6

      +Sir Potato Bullshit, bullshit and more bullshit. Bloodborne has 41 Lanterns while DS3 has almost 60 Bonfires, and the Bonfires in DS3 are all so fucking close together that you'll end up visiting them far more than the Lanterns.
      BB is more linear than what? If you mean "more linear than DS1", yeah sure. But the same could be said of literally any other Souls game and it would ring true. If you mean Demon's Souls or Dark Souls 2 then you are objectively wrong; Demon's Souls was level-based while Dark Souls 2 was a collection of A>B linear pathways. And if you mean Dark Souls 3, you're wrong again because unless you're the type of madman who hunts Blue Slimes in Zelda games and is okay with fighting the Dancer at SL20, your only real choices in the game are "do I fight Aldrich or Yhorm first" and "when should I fight the Nameless King".
      And your last point is wrong again. Bloodborne had an original setting, original lore and a fairly unique atmosphere of horror and intrigue. Dark Souls 3, by contrast, stole most of its lore and setting ideas from DS1/2 (hell they copy-paste Anor Londo in at one point, and that just says it all) and an atmosphere that's trying way to hard to be dark, depressing and serious.

    • @sirpotato9052
      @sirpotato9052 6 лет назад +2

      Rangaman Rangaman 1. Maybe because Dark Souls 3 is harder and has an actual challenge?
      2. BB barely has any choices either and DS3 has many alternative storylines. Anyways, when are linear games bad? Is super Mario brothers shit because of that? Also, if DS3 barely has any choices how come they are so many OP before Abyss Watchers build? Anyways, the only choices in DS1 is basically "should I fight sif early??"
      3. Where does BB have a good and intriguing storyline? There aren't many lore videos on BB because it's lore is boring. Anyways, BB is less strategic and just dodge backwards when someone attacks and dodge forward and spam attacks.
      Anyways, DS3 was needed to finish the lore. Who was Gwyns sun? What happened to Gwyndolin? Etc
      How the fuck are you saying that Anor Londo can't be in DS3? It is a fucking location. Anyways, you don't give any points on how it tries and fails to be dark.

    If I’m being honest Dark Souls is one of those series where there’s a nearly infinite number of spinoffs and sequels that could be feasibly made, but they’d have to be made only once every few years. It certainly needs to be quality over quantity, yet we have an enormous universe with an equally enormous timeline that I feel should really be explored more. I’m not saying there should be a game called “Dark Souls IV”, but there definitely needs to be more games in the SoulsBorne universe. A game that takes place after the First Flame goes out where you search for the embers the Fire Keeper spoke of would be amazing...

    What’s the big difference between DS2 and SOTFS? Besides enemy placements? It’s basically the same game, but improved. Dark Souls 2 has the best weapons, the best PVP, the best Magic, the most variety in play styles. Best duel wielding by far. For example having a magic character is so much cooler in DS2 because you can duel a Blue Flame and a Ice Rapier, have a blue moon great-sword in one hand and a Aged smelter sword in the other. Crystal soul spears are best in DS2. Twin blades r better, great lance is better, The list goes on. Go to a dark build, dark orbs baby! Can beat the whole game spamming them. My girl Sullie The witch outfit. Sexiest souls outfit. Lol 😂

Blooborne definitely had the best bosses of their games but DS3 takes the prize for best areas imo.

    dark souls 3 is my favorite souls game, although i understand SOME of the complaints about it. i just think it's the most fun to play, and i prefer the medieval fantasy feel over bloodborne's gothic setting. i also played it before dark souls 1 so to me, most of the fanservice felt like something new and the game never felt lacking in identity. i actually find the bleak atmosphere of the game to be incredibly beautiful, i love the lore, and many of the bosses are unbeatable in terms of quality.
    i will say that i believe bloodborne is objectively the closest to a flawless game that fromsoft has ever come, and it's a close second favorite to ds3, but i have more of an attachment to dark souls overall.

    I think while saying it feels uninspired, you’re forgetting it is a DARK souls game, not just a fromsoft or souls series game. For those that care about the world and lore of the souls universe, DS3 is easily a favorite of the series. It has the best combat and weapons of the DARK souls series, while also delivering on an extremely immersive world. I also think the “drab” and “bleakness” of the design does exactly what it’s meant to and goes a long way in really getting across the feel of a collapsing, dying, hopeless end to a once beautiful world. All while still managing beauty and no shortage of detail. I recognize this is your opinion, and respect it, and still love you and your channel despite it. But I can’t help but to think that you were playing a dark souls game wishing and hoping for something other than dark souls, and feel that if the game were changed to correct your “hates” the game would’ve been heavily criticized for feeling too unlike dark souls, and not being a proper final installment to the legendary series.

    I disagree on your point about not needing more dark souls. Ds1 is so damn clunky and that turns me off. Ds2 I havnt bothered with but will one day. Bloodborne I actually started a week ago and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. There's a few things I don't like (farming for echoes to buy vials and the fact most dope weapons are late game mainly) but I love the world. Ds3 however was my intro into ds. I experienced the insane difficulty that the games had to offer and the world to me was beautiful. Your point on the world being drab (despite going back on it) annoys me. The drabness is there to make the world seem dark and lifeless, and to heighten the beauty where it's found. I still remember the day I walked into the boreal valley. Awe inspiring and terrifying once the dog dropped down.

    Ok, how about this concept:
    1) A game where you try to remain what you are
    - Where you count you get "rot" instead of souls. After gathering enough to level up, your starts are starting to decrease (0.001/sec) depending on what kind of equipment you are using
    - But stuff can only be purchased from "rot"
    - There would be buff/rebuff items that help you for x time and then have the opposite effect 2x as long. Still, you could use the previous items you had for that time...
    2) Avoid darkness:
    - The darker area you are in, the faster you are rotting (degrading stats after levelup) or even loosing HP
    - So now you need to decide which area you want to go.... the more or less lit
    - well lit areas, fires would heal you of course...
    3) You will have to adopt your playstyle as you degrade
    - And which built you want to exhaust.... including equipment management
    - I used to beat these guys easily.... but now....

    I wouldn't say the references to earlier games are fan service. Dark Souls 3 is the convergence of all the other games. It says so pretty explicitly in some places. It's one last battle at the end of time. Reflections and variations and echos of the other worlds are converging.
    Dark Souls 3 is the saddest of the games. Finding various references, often dead or passed along, like the giant smith in Anor Londo, are filled with sadness. One of my favorite moments is finding Untended Graves and the old woman still there all alone. It's all quiet with no music. Even the air feels still and with no echo.
    It's atmosphere is excellent imo. Especially for the last game of the storied and beloved series.

Plus too many gank bosses... at some point after Vicar Amelia it's gank bosses after gank bosses, some being really gimmicky like Rom. Plus too many human bosses (I've never liked them in this serie). The only boss fights I've truly enjoyed in BB were Logarius and Ludwig. I think DkS III is by far the best (areas are better in BB though, I give it that). But BB is second ex-aequo with DkS. DkS II is pure BS through and through (albeit I've only played SotFS but I can't believe the original one is so much better... a boring boss will remain a boring boss no matter what).

    Guys let's make something clear: Midir is actually a fair boss and his attacks are so good designed i know his body has crazy shitty hitbox but still it is fair because every attack he does he has his head down and if you say "he spams fire" no he don't you are just far away and he starts spamming fire or laser. Also Midir Soul gives you a Bloodborne Sorcery and a well-hard designed katana. The OST is epic and if i have to mark from 0-10 i vote 10/10.

    My personal ranking
    5. Dark Souls 2. There almost wasn't a single thing I liked about this game.
    4. Demon Souls. ONLY BECAUSE I NEVER GOT TO FULLY PLAY IT. if I get the chance, I'm sure my mind will change.
    3. Dark Souls 3. Things I like, things I don't. Perfect for the middle.
    2. Bloodborne. Enjoyed the game and bosses, but the environments shared the same black/brown/green color scheme and it got old. It's detailed but very lackluster in color or brightness.
    1. Dark Souls 1. Love just about everything in this game. Environments are colorful, detailed, different and nothing seems repeated (besides stray demon x3) most of the bosses are very unique and fun. Absolutely adore this game. On my way to get the platinum trophy for the remaster

    I believe that dark souls 3 deserves a better spot because it has such a beautiful and unique level design, a large quality of weaponry, and the ability to alter your character via Rosaria
    The lore is really good and the way it delivers it is just fascinating, the way that connects ds1 and ds2 to the lore of ds3(I know that it has not that much lore) just gives me goosebumps.
    When I saw Anor londo i honestly cried (of joy of course) and the feeling that the moment gave me was unspeakable, that scene was one of my favorite ones in all of gaming.
    Something that I also adored was the bosses. Some of the bosses in this game will stay in my heart forever(Gael, Soul Of Sinder, Sister Friede and more)
    Some of you will think that ds3 does not have a unique level design and I can understand that, maybe is it just me or it really is unique but I honestly adore it, even the swamp is beautiful in a dark souls way
    These are my thoughts on ds3 and to sum up Dark Souls 3 will stay in my top 5 best games of all time

    Unpopular Opinion: I just finished my first DS2 playthrough (SOTFS Edition) and have just started DS3, and so far I like DS2 the best. Sure it had a lot of bad bosses, but it had some great ones as well, such as Throne Watcher and Defender and The Pursurer. I just think that it maintained its quality throughout the entirety of the game rather than in DS1 it just dropped. As for DS3, it just isn't as engaging as of right now. The areas aren't very memorable and I honestly dont know if I prefer the faster fighting. Now dont get me wrong, I love DS1 as well (Not sure about DS3 haven't played enough of it,) but at the end of the day I just enjoyed DS2 the most.

    Dark Souls 3 is my favorite game of all time, Dark Souls 1 being a close second. I'm one of the guys who quite disliked Dark Souls 2 and I haven't yet been fully compelled by Bloodborne despite owning it and picking it up every once and a while. And while I'm a huge defender of DS3 and I think it nails everything it does, I can 100% understand where you're coming from. I feel like this game has impeccable level design, the best bosses in the series, and the most beautiful visuals in almost any game I've played, but this lies in interpretation, and you interpret it in a different way. I appreciate how you make such an effort to display your opinions as just that, opinions, and you don't disrespect other people for what they think. Thanks, DeMod, you rock.

    I think you're list and judgement is quite fair, though I personally adore dark souls 3 and it is my favorite game of the series I can understand why you put it on the bottom. I have always preferred dreary landscapes and worlds so DS3 was perfect in that design for me. Disconnected hub also doesnt bother me much because I spend so much time using bonfires to travel around anyway. I haven't had the chance to play a lot of bloodborne or DS2 so I can't really make my own list, but DS3 is my favorite.

  • @reNINTENDO

    DS3 might be R1 spammy, but DS1 is objectively more so. The enemies and bosses are far simpler on average in the original, making spam more effective. Though I'm guessing you mean more stamina cost than actual complexity, which I can understand. It just kind of depends on how you're viewing it.
    I'm a boss person myself as well, so going to DS1 after DS3 was a bit of a disappointment in that regard. I get how someone would prefer DS1 for its interconnected world (which I think is super cool, though it likes to waste your time a lot), but I kind of find most of the DS1 bosses to be either underwhelming or boring. I played it after Bloodborne and DS3 though, so I imagine if it were my first Souls game I'd view it more fondly. But other than Gwyn (I don't really like parrying, though it's pretty easy in DS1) none of the DS1 bosses were much of a challenge. The DLC had some really good bosses though, where they actually gave them more than three moves and different phases.
    Oh, and going to DS1 made me realize how good I had it "combat polish" wise. DS1's combat is very solid assuming two things: you fast roll and _never_ lock on. Lock on in that game is terrible. Thankfully I'm use to claw gripping and playing through DS1 unlocked from start to finish probably made me a better Souls player overall.

    As someone who's not been able to actually play Bloodborne and Demon's Souls, I can't comment on them, but DS3 is my favorite of the franchise.
    I love the story and the lore, in typical Dark Souls fashion being very melancholy and dreary, but still being packed with dozens of interesting stories, locales, individuals and monsters. It draws a lot from nostalgia, but even without the nostalgia influencing the stories told I love the lore of the game, from the sad fate of Anor Londo after it's abandonment, to the stories of legendary heroes, akin to us, being forced to sacrifice themselves yet again to a dying world, and instead abandoning their responsibilities for differing reasons. From madness and corruption from the blood of the failed Abyss Walker, to returning home to the incinerated corpse of the Profaned Capital after self sacrifice murdered your kingdom, to the ideology that the world is doomed regardless. The characters you meet are well written, and are both a source of joy and melancholy, while fulfilling similar roles in a world forever doomed to cycles and repetition, even in it's twilight days.
    The areas are fun to explore, visually diverse despite being somewhat drab, and reward exploration and taking risks. One genuine gripe I have about DS3 is the lack of a connected world, and namely the separation of Firelink Shrine from the living world, but if you know the story it makes some sense (the Shrine is technically in the future, Lothric and co. are in the past, and the Ringed City and the Kiln are at the end of time) and doesn't detract too much for the experience for me.
    The combat is fluid, weapon arts can be fun, though FP makes actually utalizing arts a chore, and the weapon variety, while not comparable to Bloodborne, still has enough weapons that feel truly unique to not make everything feel samey too often (though it definitely can be)
    The bosses are easy the high point of DS3, as even the worse bosses are at least kind of enjoyable.
    I understand why this list is the way it is, and respect your opinions, but though the video is old, an excuse to praise what likely is my favorite game of all time, despite its flaws, is an excuse I won't pass up

  • @kimnicaro3496

    I disagree about Dark Souls 3 not looking good. Yes, it's grey and drab, but it's still stunning. Just look at Irythill. Or stop for a moment in the Undead Settlement and take a look at Lothric in the background. It's gorgeous.
    Another matter, just a quick question: Am I the only person who finds Bloodborne disgusting? Normally I'm not squeamish about games, but something about Bloodborne just makes my skin crawl. Which is why I'll probably never play it (even if I ever do get a Playstation).
