  • From above the surface and on a hot summers day it can be very temping just to jump in a disused water filled quarry .This video shows what's below the surface of this quarry and the potential dangers that's below a typical quarry. As divers we can see and avoid the dangers under the surface and always carry out a risk assessment before each dive. Before the jump entry the area below was checked to see if any potential hazards. As a scuba diving club this site is well used by us and other dive clubs for training .not suitable for wetsuits divers it was a cold 6c only for the hardcore dry suit divers can attend😂 .enjoy 👌

      Thank you much appreciated. A local dive site but threatened by housing development . It’s where we take our new students to do jump entry’s and to get use to they drysuits before diving in the sea . A handy place to have

    Man I miss diving here. A lot of divers turn their nose up at quarry sites, but this one's full of amazing memories for me. Playing about on the chairs and sofa, doing skills on the buoy and "trampoline", first time I saw the pike! Recovering masks and a dsmb. SAC races, and the shocked expression on trainees faces as they come out of the water in February. Such a great dive site, long may we have it!

    Great video. . How do fish end up in quarrys. We have a few quarrys local and there are quite a few fish over a foot in length. And I was asking my mate the same question. Nature finds a way. Blue lagoon. Water always looks so enticing. Very dangerous place for young lads in the summer. Great video.

      I believe if there’s a river all a lake near by that’s overflowing for example. The water /rain water can travel with eggs that’s attached to seaweed or something else. Or birds that have caught fish especially seabirds have been eating the the fish nearby with the fish with eggs that could of ended up in the quarry’s . There was a big pike in the quarry but we think someone has fished it out . God knows how that ended up in there 😁

      Fish eggs and other eggs very small are picked up by b8rds on their feet and underbelly and get into the next water landing called natural stocking! That's why I often wild fish and any water I find always something in them + I carry an ice fishing rod and cheap reel reel and a foldable landing net don't be fooled by an ice fishing rod as they will land you a 20 llb fish!

    The way fish get into water is because of waterfowl. Fish eggs have a stickiness to them and as waterfowl walk through the water, the eggs get stuck to the birds which in turn fly to another waterway and deposit the eggs.

      Defo . I believe there was interest to make it as a dive center but nothing happened. Also a house developer where thinking of buying the land and a fence of some sort was place around it for some time . Idea for training to get use to the Equipment no tides and an easy entry..that’s what we use it for 👍

      Yes it is .would be a great site if someone took it over . Great for training testing equipment but not that deep.

      No making videos can be time consuming and once you upload it it’s a pain to change it . That was about 1hr30min footage made of the best 7mins I just forgot 😭

    Is this a dive centre quarry or just a flooded quarry? Lots of garbage down there. Too much for a run dive centre I reckon

    • @Scubavery
      @Scubavery  2 года назад

      Flooded quarry . There was talk a few years ago making it in a dive center but I think there pulled out . Also was talks of a housing development getting built but there was public anger.

    Why we can’t utilise the water stored here and at other quarries is beyond me! Any thoughts?

      Years ago someone wanted to buy the site or use the site for diving put the council said no that’s what I was told . Also this site was planned to be developed on ie drain the site and build expensive housing . .But the locals are having an on going battle with the council to stop this going ahead. The site is still used by us and divers great for training. For how long ???

    What would that Pike feed on !

    • @Scubavery
      @Scubavery  Месяц назад

      Good question. At times there’s lots of frogs maybe it feeds on them . Only recently some divers spotted it and still looks healthy so it’s feeding on something that’s for sure .

  • @ct1762

    how did the pike get there? my guess is birds pick up fish eggs in the weeds they eat at other ponds, and poop them back out in this quarry. only takes a few good eggs over decades!

    • @Scubavery
      @Scubavery  Год назад

      The last two times I was there I didn’t see it but that was after this video was made . Doesn’t mean it’s still not there . I believe divers are still diving there now . Only issue there’s a gate before the dirt road . I believe some dive clubs and individuals have the combination number for the lock .
