I used to fish with my dad on a 12 ft sears w a 2hp from the 50s lol. People would point and laugh but my dad never noticed. So many fun times. Dads gone now, and I have a much much nicer boat. When I think back on all the game fish I have caught, it really doesn't compare to drifting for small mouths or crabbing w dad.

3:08, my guess is that the metal bars are supports to put a tarp over the boat to keep it from filling up with rain water. He probably puts a rope or a rod from them all the way up to that wood board in the front, makes a nice slanted roof and prevents large puddles that can break the tarp.

05:38 I used to have a small boat like that. I would tie a line from the bow to the back of the trailer (while boat was still on trailer)... I would back in.. boat would float off... then pull truck & trailer forward, dragging the boat to shore, just like that guy did (no dock to tie up to). But.... I did it all in ONE MOTION... I physically never got out of the truck. Oh... and I did it SLOW, NOT 20mph with my dog in the boat!

In regard to the two trolling motors. There's only one trolling motor. The other "trolling motor" is the main. My guess is the gas engine is too fast for slower trolling so he needed an electric motor to be able to troll slower. Another possibility is that if they're going fishing in a weeded area, they can run that electric motor with the prop just barely under the water line allowing the boat to somewhat clear a path so the prop doesn’t get wrapped with weeds.

I have a 10’ 6” Meyer’s aluminum boat that was my father’s for our local small lakes, and I also have a 16’ aluminum Deep-V Big Fisherman. Both these boats are fantastic. @6:25ish that is exactly how I launch my aluminum boat when there is no dock.
Tie off to trailer and pull into water with a some momentum let the boat float away and pull out and pull boat to shore all in one. Sometimes never even get wet!

Alot of people cant afford a 50,000 dollar boat. As long as your out on the water having fun is all that matters

Where I fish there are three boat ramps and is is very funny, an sad, to watch people launch and land new boats. I seen many a boat drifting in the harbor because they didnt know the motor wanst working.
I was handling a 35 foot fishing troller when I was 13, LOL.

The wife and I used to fish from a ten foot jon boat with a 2 1/2hp motor. You could measure the daily gas consumption in ounces lol. There ain't nothing wrong with a beater of a boat lol. One day a guy and his family pulled along side us as we slowly made our way back and hollered "Why don't you wind that rubber band tighter" to which I simply replied by pulling a stringer full of crappie and bass up out of the water and said "I can't I'm dragging too many fish" lol. The guys kid looked at him and said "Daddy why can't we catch fish like that" ! He got so angry he just sped away lmao. That old boat could go in slews that most boats couldn't.

2:50 the boat has an outboard appropriate for its size, and an electric trolling motor. That's what's goin' on there
