Absolutely awesomely clean build! Beautiful weld beads!.Superb video edit your build, magnificent 2 stroke beast KX500AF and you went over the top with the Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes.
That is an amazing build.Love the choice of the best aftermarket stuff available, and the pro level attention to detail. Time travel...imagine turning up to a race in 91 with that bike!
TheBestPuppa thanks buddy , I have sworn never to build another 500 af , made around 10 now and no more :) check my other vids & thanks for the legend comment much appreciated.brett
Wow! Awesome build!! Looks amazing bike! Raced these beasts for years in the early 90's!! How? I don't know lol. Just seeing the rear mudguard bounce whilst ticking over made me shiver!! Great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Scott Glennie thanks Scott appreciate the comment , did you ride the kx and cr 500's which did you prefer ? my favorite is still the cr 500 , made about 9 cr 500's af's , this kx500 af and 1 cr250 af , had loads of steel frame cr500's one of the best bikes to ride , well it rides you haha
watched for the bike, the tunes made it all the more better😎. I am doing a kx250 right now, been trying to snag a 92 kx500 engine off my neighbor for years now! your bike is where I will set my standards for when the day comes for my 500 build. amazing job!
That was a beautiful build. Hope to own either a CR500 or KX500 one day. I have a friend that has a YZ465 that he's been talking about putting together but he can't decide whether to put it on the bike frame or a go cart or something. I really want to ride a big bore 2-stroke. The sound alone is enough to make you fall in love with them.
will mcclung definitely more vibration that’s why most of my cr500 builds I started using the American fasst flexx bars with the dampers helped with arm pump .
holy fuck bro that's beautiful as fuck and being a welder those are some very quality welds. the bike just gives everyone a woody period. fuck yeah man
Apply the same "resto-mod" treatment to the venerable Suzuki RM370 and I will forever be in awe.... modern Ohlins, aluminium fuel tank, carbon bits....
Now that's something I would've been interested in I was actually looking for a rm500 but they are big cash & very hard to come by . Appreciate the comment Ta
You're either single, ore incredibly good at hiding what you do from your wife/GF. As much as I would absolutely do what you just did here, there is no way that my wife would go for this!! lol Kudos man! That thing is sick as hell!! No videos of you riding it?
lol , the GF has no choice [hope she does not see this haha] . cheers bud appreciate the comment, and unfortunately no quality vids , i normally ride them once or twice and start building something else .
Nice job mate. I plan on COMPLETELY restoring my 1994 KX250 SF to absolutely stunning glory. I just spent 1500USD on the motor alone. With parts, labor, and the bike I'm 3500USD into it. The big end bearing shit out on the crank so I went all out. New HotRods crank, Pro-X C piston, Athena gaskets, Boysen Carbon Fiber reeds, Wiseco clutch plates, clutch hub, and clutch basket. Bought an FMF Fatty and Powercore2 silencer. I got quite a bit so far. Love your projects. I have several going as it is but my KX250 is my pride and joy.
Thanks I'm looking to get my hands on an old IT465 or a PE400 would like to restore one of those in the near future no more customising just factory standard but like new . Hope your build goes well
+wsmaga nothing spectacular as it was only to test then sell . I really should have but as all the tyres and wheels etc were brand new I never wanted to mark them at all :(
build it back and keep the steel frame unless your only about the looks of a modern bike. the bike will be happier and better balanced i promise. the 1989 kx250 stock tank or some of the ty davis tank pipe combos can get the bike to be skinnier near the gas cap for sliding forward on the seat. again the af 500s are for the modern looks. many people think the old "cardboard robot" kx500 shapes look meaner and more intimidating anyway. if you buld a af bike get ahold of me and i'll buy some of your leftover steel frame stuff. especially the steel frame.
Nicely done mate. 6 years on and people like me are just finding it and loving it. I have a 2003 KX250 with a 95 KX500 engine. It was poorly built so I am mid way through doing it properly. Smart ideas to relocate the water inlet, the pipes are a big challenge getting them around the water pump and pipe as it. Did you weld it on yourself? Any special tips?
Brian Simpson hi bud , yes done everything myself , I would’ve changed a few things if I had to do another one but in the end it came out ok . I replicated the older cr500 cylinder water ports . If you have a look at Travis Pastranas Rm500 they moved that port too but to the place of the newer cr500 cylinders . Makes a big difference with the clearance from the exhaust , used a cr500 exhaust too .
@@corradoeaton I think the outlet relocation is a must do on the KX500. I have found a pipe specifically build for the AF builds which has the correct outlet but needs the relocation also. Did you find the PC did clear okay or did you still need to shape the back around the cylinder?
Brian Simpson it cleared well exactly like an 86 cr500 would , I had a coil spring going over the rad hose with a heat resistant sleeve , it worked perfectly . I did have to change the exhaust bends etc but that mod had to be done without making other big changes .
That seems like its twice as much work than converting a Honda... but its definitely twice as cool. Can you explain the whole part that showed changing the location of the coolant port on the jug? What/why? And how much of the frame had to be cut and refabed?
Hi Scott To be honest it was a lot more messing about than the honda cr500's as I have made about 8or9 of those as well (check my other vids). The relocation of the port just meant that I could use the cr500 exhaust without modifying the chamber only the brackets changed . Personal preference really , service Kawasaki makes a U bend out of silicone which is easier but I thought of trying something a little different .

Brad Barclay thanks man I had better songs playing to but RUclips banned my vid idiots , anyway I used a cr500 exhaust (procircuit) from 92-01 had to make some mods to fit it but nothing severe my only big mod was the moving of the water port from the side of the cylinder to the rear like the older cr500s . Nice job, what did you use to clean the crank cases up like that? Or are they new, also what year model frame did you use? An what triple clamps are they? Thanks

Not a dumb question bud "AF" is for aluminium frame , as you probably already know that kawasaki did not make an ally frame 500 neither did Honda , hence why service Gina/Kawasaki started doing them and loads over other people like myself :) Cheers
Two strokes 500cc should able too beat 450 four strokes. Traction is better on four strokes. I think depends how good the driver is and knowing the bike.
No worries bud , it's for aluminium frame as the kx and cr 500's were never made with AF frames . Service Honda/Kawasaki make them which cost an arm and a leg .

bad ass build bro nice work I love the carbon fiber on the frame
amazing work !!
I thoroughly enjoyed this build! Was that a CR500 pipe? Or a "Service Honda KX500AF" pipe? Or?
Baby-Shark GTO 100% correct was a cr500 pipe , and thanks I know the video is a little long winded and RUclips cut all the sound from it .
Thats one serious toy. Grate job.
