That’s a beast of a head unit
It really is! I'll be doing a review of it shortly so stay tuned!
Great video man! I am actually considering buying this exact head unit. I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I really like the radio and all the features over the stock radio I had. Other than the volume level. But the sound quality and volume level is still way better than stock so it's still a win in my book. I also did a review video on it too so if you haven't seen it check it out.
Looks great. Good video.
Thank you!
Fantastic video. Thank you
You're welcome. t
Thank you for watching!
Just a heads up if you’re having GPS issues it’s probably because it’s not on top of the entire dash 😊
I found your channel by searching for Tacoma and the subwoofer model. I also would like to see how you ran the wiring for the subwoofer. Have a similar smaller screen Sony head unit on a Tacoma.
If you look through my shorts you'll see the video of how I wired the amp. If you want to know how I actually ran the wires throughout the truck, let me know and as soon as I can I'll make another short showing that.
@@MattBuildI imagine it's similar to other vehicles and finding the spot to run the wire for the front camera, but would be nice to see if it's something you feel like posting, and it's up before I try myself
Depending on how work goes this week I'll try to get something recorded this week showing how I ran the wires for the sub and the front camera.
The bass controller nob that comes with your alpine sub and amplifier combo the knob just turns the bass up on your sub no thank you dear how do you know I might do that too but I think they give you the Exter bass control knob that way you don’t have to go into your settings if you’re listening to a certain song that you have to add bass and there’s songs that you have to turn the bass down that’s what I was thinking when I seen it and I’ve seen other people have them also👍👍👍👍
I have the external bass knob hooked up for that reason. Sometimes, I just want to adjust it quickly without having to go into all the different settings just to adjust it for 1 song.
What camera did you install? Has it held up? Thanks for the video.
I honestly don’t remember what kind it was off the top of my head. I’d have to check. I got it from a local store and it was pretty cheap just to see if it would work out for me. It has held up pretty well but the video quality is not great. I plan to upgrade that camera in the near future and I’ll probably make a video when I do showing the install and how I do it.
Hi Matt - great video. Can you provide some feedback on how this system worked out? I'm wondering how if this "fixed" the pathetic OEM speaker performance and whether the subwoofer provides a significant benefit.
I did a review video on the radio, it's on my channel. As far as if it helped I believe it did. I did adjust my own EQ and I was able to dial it in much better than the factory setup. I feel that it was a huge help. As far as the sub goes, I would say it's better than the bass in any factory vehicle I've been in, but sometimes I do want a little more. But as far as the space it takes up (very little) and the sound/performance you get I call it a win.
Can you please show how you hooked up and mounted the Alpine woofer?
I will try and make a video show what wires went where. If nothing else It may be a short since it really won't take that long to show that part.
that you , sir

Is there a delay when using Apple car play or Android Auto when selecting an option or a music track ? That's the biggest complaint that people are having
I've used android auto and Apple carplay both using apple music and I've never personally experienced any delay when selecting a track. The only delay I've experienced is if you're connecting to apple carplay or android auto for the first time. After that it's connected the minute it boots up. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
What wires would I need to tap into if I want run a 4 channel amp into the head unit? I’m asking because I got the same setup for my Tacoma
At about 8:35-8:40 into the video I show the RCA's that are bundled up and taped together. Those are the RCA's you would need to hook your amp up to.
Is there an analog adapter for XAV-9500ES so one can see the gauges without an obd2
Not that I'm aware of Unfortunately. The only 2 ways to use the guages is the obd2 plug or the harness I used in my vehicle. If you go to the Maestro website you can look up you vehicle and see if it'll work. But I'm assuming you mean an adapter that allows you to hook up individual guages without the use of the ecm.?
@@MattBuild Exactly without ecm for older cars and projects.
@edvinbeqari7551 Yea there's no way to make it work to the best of my knowledge. The guages wint even work in my son's 02 mustang. We tried.
Hey there mat can you select the gauge that shows your transmission temperature?
Question, I have an access cable Tacoma so I can’t really mount the sub iwhere you placed yours, do you know if the sub would fit underneath the passenger seat? Or is it too tall?
If I remember correctly I tried to put mine under the seat but i don't think it would fit. However I was looking at the Infiniti basslink mini (which is also a great sounding sub/amp combo) and I think it would fit under the seat. I think you can google the dimensions of both and somewhat measure under the seat to double check though.
Hey Matt! Did you order this unit from TrailGridPro? How did you connect the OBD harness to the OBD port? My harness has a 2 ends, one is white and one is black but I have only found a connection for the white end. But my unit does not turn on when I attempt to turn it on. I'm guessing it's because the black end isn't connected to anything?
Hey Josh, I got this whole setup from a local audio shop here in town. With the iDatalink Maestro and iDatalink harness nothing actually plugged into the OBD port itself. Everything runs through the harnesses at the beginning of the video. What year make and model vehicle do you have? Because all of them are different.
Hey there Josh did you manage to get the OB2 to work on your truck? I have the same unit from trail grid pro, and they told me to connect the white cable from the ob2 harness but it doesn't work. I want to see the transmission temperature gauge.
I have 2019 trd off road premium jbl sound system.
Josh you there bud? Lol
If you don't care about using the cubby hole do you just flip the screen the other way?
If you don't want the cubby hole you can just lower the screen. The screen has a ton of adjustment. In, out, up, and down. So you would just use a different set of screw holes that set the screen down lower.
@@MattBuild thanks for your reply
@wb4514 No problem. I try to respond to everyone If I can.
Do you still retain the 360 birds eye view with this head unit?
Mine did not come with a 360 birds eye camera so I honestly couldn't tell you I'd you retain it or not.
@@MattBuild thanks for the fast response
You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Any idea if this would work with the jbl system ? Thanks for the input
I believe it will work with the jbl but you may need different harnesses/plugs. And I believe you'll have to set up the Maestro to work with the jbl I believe. It's been a while since I set mine up. If you're using the Maestro.
Can you still use the steering wheel botton?
Yes all the buttons are still functional. And with the Maestro when you plug it up to the computer to set it up to your vehicle and radio you can actually program some of the buttons to do different things.
@@MattBuild is the maestro included on the package?
So all the plugs and Maestro were separate. I went to a local shop and they showed me which plugs etc I would need to maintain all the factory controls etc. But I had to buy the iDatalink Maestro rr module, the wiring harness that goes from the Maestro to my factory tacoma wiring harness plugs, the Sony adapter they make for the Maestro, and the power antenna adapter for my Tacoma. The only wiring harness I didn't buy was the harness to retain the antenna for my Sirius satellite radio since I don't use satellite radio.
