      I’m so late to add to this comment, but so many HP actors had incredible careers in British film and on stage.
      Lockhart was probably one of my least favorite roles of Kenneth Branagh. (He did great, the character just…grates like cheese). His work with Jane Austen adaptations is lovely.
      Same for Snape, Alan Rickman.

    The Dowager Countess was arguably the best thing about this magnificent show. All her lines were zingers and Dame Maggie Smith never failed to deliver them perfectly.

      For me, she's unarguably the best thing in that show. For an exquisite rendering of this Maggie Smith character supported by equally interesting costars and a fantastic script, see the excellent 2001 Robert Altman film "Gosford Park".

      I had to google. I didn't think people would win Emmies for such a largely panned show, but many did. Imelda Staunton won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

    Ive never watched Downton Abbey as I don't have a television. But I did go to see the film with friends earlier this year. I'm thinking now that maybe i should see if I can borrow the DVDs from my local library. The costumes are wonderful.

      Je suis fan francais de Downtown abbaye et je vous recommande surtout la première moitié de la série.
      Il y a bien sûr la qualité cinématographique mais j'apprécie particulièrement les dialogues dont l'esprit "cash" est très bien rendu par la traduction. Maggie Smith et son immense talent font merveille avec un texte taillé sur mesure pour elle.
      Le personnage d'Isobel est aussi très attachant, elle forme avec violet un partenariat très réussi.
      Je vous souhaite une bonne découverte .
      Maggie Smith a eu plein de très beaux rôles sa carrière est considérable !

    I read about a famous Hollywood actress who did something like that, adopted her own daughter. As someone said, it was not that uncommon. Also much younger “brothers” or “sisters” to a teenage girl.

      Try to see "That Day We Sang" it's a musical about two fictional characters in the setting of a real event. It's a charming, heart warming film written by the great Victoria Wood.

      In some roles she out-Streisand'd Streisand. Gypsy comes to mind there. Also loved Sweeny Todd, but for me that one is a tie between Imelda Staunton and Angela Lansbury.
