i love it when someone finds Parcels for the first time. you can see the gears working as you listen to them and i've had that same exact feeling years ago.
This band, and especially this recording session, grows on you so quickly. I have probably listened to the entire performance 20 times over at this point, and certain sections even more than that, and infectious is an understatement as I seem to like it more every time I do. Truly a group that is greater than the sum of their parts. They know how important things such as tone, timbre, dynamics, syncopation, harmonics, and just everything else is when making music that will really stick with people. When introducing people to them, I often describe their sound as Daft Punk's Random Access Memories album, played live by Vulfpeck, with Tame Impala crooning. So many clear influences, but they are still uniquely themselves, love to see it.
Really it's the Nile Rogers sound that they (and daft punk on RAM) nail so perfectly. Chucking guitar part is classic Nile. Tied Up Right Now by Parcels and Lose Yourself To Dance (written by Daft Punk and Nile Rogers) are so so similar
Parcels rules. They are “wtf” level good. Also your ability to hear a phrase and play it back in .5 seconds never ceases to impress. Thanks for the insights!
i saw Parcels live recently and i brought two people who had never heard of them. I was in nearly the very back row of the upper balcony and EVERYONE was dancing. it was a total party. super super fun.
Actual progression of my parcels experience from about 2-3 years ago: Randomly pops up: hm these guys sound ok Randomly pops up again: ok theyre actually really good Get into their albums and songs: Im a fan Found the love vol1 video: If I have another child Ill name it Parcels
The Parcels are such an incredible band, I've had the chance to hear them twice already in Germany. The first time was in a small tent on a festival with only about 100 viewers and we were right in the first row, such a pleasure to watch them really enjoy what the are doing nad to hear the live sound right out of those amps! And they also look incredible like everyone of them is born in a different decade starting at 1950.
Ive been flying to different cities to see parcels on tour in the states, I've never felt the floor SHAKE cause of people dancing, its so addictive, seeing them in Philly end of July
Just saw them live here in Asheville. The raw talent possessed by these guys is unlike anything I've ever seen. The instruments.. the vocals.. hard to believe it as you're watching. So glad you covered them!
Just saw them live in Nashville and they put on an amazing show. One of the few bands out there that is truly as good live as in the studio. Thank you for taking the time to check these guys out!
For a second I thought it was the solo is the video and I was thinking wow this is pretty good later and a couple seconds later I realized it was Michael! Very nice playing my friend! Btw…every time you post a blues video and plays some blues in the intro and during the video and break it down I always feel that is definitely your strong point and that you are a much better blues player than you probably give yourself credit for. You have all the feel, vibrato and plus you really love the blues like I do ( or the blues love you lol ) and I think loving the sound and feel and rhythm of those licks with all the awesome bends and patterns and vibratos, makes you a better blues player. Anyway…great video! Mote blues!!
Tis true, I grew up in Perth (Australia) and the number of talented musos here is incredible, but they find it hard to gain traction with such a small market, hence why so many head to Europe/UK/USA, cheers!
Except that Australians don't like them unless they move to another country and gain success here first. Hence why Parcels moved to Berlin and only now they can tour Australia with sold out shows.
... and you got hooked by their music, didn't you ? This vid was the highlight of 2020 1st lockdown. Seen them on stage 1st in 2017, brilliant ! Will see them again in late 2022, can't wait... did you listen to their last double album ? A real journey of its own, amazing
Didnt realize watching somebody discover this Live Vol. 1 video for the first time would be as enjoyable as the first time i watched it myself (stopped counting at 40, seriously). I kept smiling all along as i was thinking ‘this is only the beginning man you’re about to be blown out’. So sad to not hear you react and explain the rest of it, please do! It’s my absolute favorite recent album but im not at a music theory level where i can understand how it sounds that good. And there aren’t many RUclipsrs out there dissecting music videos this well, thanks anyways !
I saw them in Mexico City and it was spectacular, the biggest show in their career, 8,000 people dancing for over 2 hours, I can't believe they are younger than me and playing like they are 50.
Yessss! I wish you could react to the whole thing! The transition from Comedown into Lighten Up gets me everytime! Cannot wait to see Parcels in Belgium this summer and in London this autumn! One of my favourite discoveries in years 👌
Long time watcher/subscriber, first time commenting. Absolutely LOVE Parcels. If you can find a live version, you should absolutely check out their song Lord Henry from their most recent album, Day/Night.
I'm so glad to see this and see someone experience Parcels Live 1 for the first time. I think this recording/album is by a long shot one of the greatest pieces of music written in a very very long time. I show this album to every music person I meet and have yet to find someone that isn't completely blown away. It feels so genuine and real. Just some people playing some music and having a great time all while being recorded and mastered in an S tier way. It has always seemed to me that they have listened to every "great" song over the past 50 years and put it all together in one. They have clearly done their homework on what makes a great pop song and it shows. You can hear Steely Dan, Yes, Michael Jackson, Beegees, Dire Straits, Phil Collins, Elton John, etc, etc, etc. and that is only in the first 10 minutes. It is a love letter to the pop bands of yesteryears.
How you just got the spirit of the band so right when you jammed over it at the end is amazing, I love this band and seeing you fitting in so perfectly was really impressive
All them years ago I remember going to the shop to buy the Skull & Roses album, and the store owner said; "Every home should have one". Well, the 1st Parcels album is up there for me.
It’s amazing he sees the music mathematically this guy is super smart must be an awesome teacher. I hope you keep succeeding in your channel and keep doing awesome reviews like this. Very animated and entertaining.
SO proud to be an Aussie. Between Parcels, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and soooo many other incredible bands my taste is tickled perfectly just domestically.
What a Jam you did here, for me a person who knows a bit of music theory has been quite nice to saw how you fit in bymyself regardless you didn't know the solo part for Jules. It is like a premonition that you did. Always will be nice to see people discovering this guys. Cheers from Colombia
These guys are freaking awesome. I saw them live a few months back and it was an amazing show. Such high energy. They are headed for great things! incredible musicians
Don't know If anybody suggested it before: ruclips.net/video/RacxNskxySo/видео.html - A cover they made together with anothother great german band (AnnenMayKantereit - AMK). Both (video and AMK) may be worth to have a look at... 👍
Fuck yeah, I've just seen my favorite vocal coach on youtube react to my favorite singer and now this pops up? You must be kidding me, I love this band. Yes indeed the sun is shining today :) They're so tight and every song of theirs is a vibe :)
Yes. I realize I turned it off RIGHT BEFORE THE HEAT. I know, I know. We do it live, ladies and gentlemen. We do it LIVE :)
doing an entire video would be stupidly long, but please let us know if you watch most of it, because its truly magical :)
If you like this, you should try “You’re Still A Young Man” by Tower of Power
Please do the whole thing
Please
really wish u could do a whole live, but just one or two songs at a time, and post weekly, we would really love that
i love it when someone finds Parcels for the first time. you can see the gears working as you listen to them and i've had that same exact feeling years ago.

Couldn't agree more my friend. In my opinion it's a masterpiece.
I´ve been struggling to listen to anything else, really 😅
@@stephengower3515 Yeah that was originally how I discovered them, but this recording session specifically is what made me fall in love.
this is so accurate after i watch it the first time i kept playing it over! I am also a big vulfpeck fan

That’s what I’m saying! His licks on bemyself fit a little too well 🤣
Finally... someone reacting to PARCELS, god damn, i don't know why this band is not getting enough attention.
they will, give them time..
Exactly my thoughts! This Live is legend level
the video that is being reacted to has 6.7 million views
@@functiontwelve lol I was like majority of their videos have millions of views and they always are touring in big city’s
@@danteortolani9133 I'm kind of afraid that they're not noticed when the band itself is in this prime
i saw Parcels live recently and i brought two people who had never heard of them. I was in nearly the very back row of the upper balcony and EVERYONE was dancing. it was a total party. super super fun.
When he says "YES! Oh, this is seriously good." I thought of the first time I heard Parcels. Such an amazing band.
Actual progression of my parcels experience from about 2-3 years ago:

Just saw them live in Nashville and they put on an amazing show. One of the few bands out there that is truly as good live as in the studio. Thank you for taking the time to check these guys out!
That's the best album of the 2020. Fantastic musicianships and excellent sound design
When you hopped on the groove I got chills "Get on there Mike! Get up on it!"
Classic Australiana right there. The funk is thick, dirty and deep.
Wow! Now that's a band! Michael. . .you sounded so beautifully "Jerry" in those improv solos. Great job 👍
if the band exists when the music industry is in prime (days when beatles, queen, etc still around) they would make to the top
Loved this, and loved to hear you jam over the top!
this was seriously amazing, I believe this was the first time I actually felt the urge to comment on a youtube vid. awsome awsome
Love the groove on the rythm guitar.
5:04 pats face when he pauses it
holy hell you lit that solo up man. amazing
5:52 anesthesia
my favorite band on earth right now
You end up jamming on it bro
Best part was you playing on top. They should be your house band... permanently.
Parcels it’s everything in life
You were dropping some Jerry G goodness right there and you backed off... inexcusable my man.
Yeah man that was amazing lol
the best band in the world
Can you please do a song analysis of Al di Meola "a song with a view" one of the best solos I've ever heard ❤️
Didn't know President Macron had a music channel
your jam at 11:10 is pure gold
Right now it’s Parcels and Mildlife
RIP that shit my guy haha god this stuff is so good.. GET CARRIED AWAY
noooo waaaay that part where you played around 12:09 holy shit
Love your videos man! Id love to see your reaction to marcin. Ive seen your reactions to mike dawes so im pretty sure youll love marcin too!
Damn, this is 80s as fuck. Up there with Mildlife's 70s vibe.
Their most recent US tour had Mildlife opening for them. Great combo. Saw them in Portland, absolute fire!
I wish I could hear Parcels for the first time again
Cheers for picking my request Michael! Watching you read my comment completely made my day.
My pleasure! Thanks for being a Guitargate subscriber!
Great pick Johnny Hancock, Parcels are such an awesome band, I love that they’re getting a reaction video. 👍👍
you jamming on top was absolutely spectacular to watch/hear
an absolute delight! :D
Thanks!!
Was shocked there weren't more comments regarding it. Had the biggest smile.

He slotted right into the song 🤯👌
Best Band in the land, Australian musicians are actually a gift from god himself, their music scene over there has so many talented YOUNG musicians
Tis true, I grew up in Perth (Australia) and the number of talented musos here is incredible, but they find it hard to gain traction with such a small market, hence why so many head to Europe/UK/USA, cheers!
Completely agree. The parcels, king gizzard even the chats. So much good music coming from oz, their investment in music education is paying off
Except that Australians don't like them unless they move to another country and gain success here first. Hence why Parcels moved to Berlin and only now they can tour Australia with sold out shows.
True we got Tame Impala, POND, Parcels, and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard etc.
ALEX CAMERON from Sydney!!
Emmanuel Macron is teaching how to play Parcels

I was there too. Epic show I’ll never forget
After showing Vulfpeck so much love, it was only a matter of time before you discovered Parcels. Thank you for indulging us!
Did Mike give Vulf a glow up?
Parcels live vol. 1 is one of the greatest music pieces I have ever listened to, too bad you didnt watch it all out.
You need to hear the rest, this live is masterpiece!
Yessss! I wish you could react to the whole thing! The transition from Comedown into Lighten Up gets me everytime! Cannot wait to see Parcels in Belgium this summer and in London this autumn! One of my favourite discoveries in years 👌
Redline to Iknowhowyoufeel is an amazing transition too 👌🏽
The best one
Parcels is so good. That whole video/album is incredible
Dang I wanna see you break down the entire 60 min video! I love this band so much and it's so cool to hear your breakdown of it
I love watching people discover these guys!! Seriously so glad they're finally getting some recognition!
One of current favorite bands, keeping funk alive and healthy!
Long time watcher/subscriber, first time commenting. Absolutely LOVE Parcels. If you can find a live version, you should absolutely check out their song Lord Henry from their most recent album, Day/Night.
Yes please do a deep dive, this performance has so much more gold give!

12:10 that solo was killer!
In a weird way this kind of playing reminded me of Marc Rebillet ruclips.net/video/3vBwRfQbXkg/видео.html
How you just got the spirit of the band so right when you jammed over it at the end is amazing, I love this band and seeing you fitting in so perfectly was really impressive
Honestly I wouldn't have been upset if you continued the groove over the son..shit was nice
This is one of my favourite videos to come back to. This album is a product of its time but holy hell do enjoy you loving watching this album
Instant click! Love you Michael, glad to see you spreading some Parcels love as well.
una vez que descubres a parcels, la vida ya no es la misma... Genios
daft punk influenced, presented in the old fashion way. already a fan of them since 2019 lol
TIME TO LIGHTEN UP
All them years ago I remember going to the shop to buy the Skull & Roses album, and the store owner said; "Every home should have one".
Well, the 1st Parcels album is up there for me.
That guitar solo on "Be myself" was so good!
Did Michael ever do a live taking a deeper dive of this?
12:45 and he’s lost in the jam ! 😂 awesome dude !
This sounds was the song that began to left me out of my depression.
It's just sonic serotonin
It’s amazing he sees the music mathematically this guy is super smart must be an awesome teacher. I hope you keep succeeding in your channel and keep doing awesome reviews like this. Very animated and entertaining.
What you're seeing in that live album is virtuosic teamwork
Parcels are so good, listen to their new album Day & Night, it's incredible!
You're not my uncle and you're not the community's uncle. Youre the world's "Funky Uncle Mike"
SO proud to be an Aussie. Between Parcels, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and soooo many other incredible bands my taste is tickled perfectly just domestically.
3:45 You can see the exact moment you think "what did I get myself into"
that moment at 12:10 when Michael becomes part of the band...
What a Jam you did here, for me a person who knows a bit of music theory has been quite nice to saw how you fit in bymyself regardless you didn't know the solo part for Jules. It is like a premonition that you did. Always will be nice to see people discovering this guys. Cheers from Colombia
please do a part two with bemyself
These guys are freaking awesome. I saw them live a few months back and it was an amazing show. Such high energy. They are headed for great things! incredible musicians
I'd absolutely love to see a deep dive into this!
Jesus Christ you're good. my mind was blown from 11:10-12:55

WHY DID YOU STOP? I was jamming so hard and that's my favorite song on the album
Sounds like lucky or starting something. Its good but all sounds the same. Hard to believe people are so mind blown by bland funk
Parcels!! Day/Night Album!!
why you are strangely like Robin Williams? lol
Loved your reaction to Parcels!
Plll💔😭lllz react to *Baekhyun ft Seo Moontak "Hurt"* mv it's a masterpiece especially for the guitar player
What a discovery, MY GOD!!!
It's really nice to see someone who knows what's going on confirming that : yes indeed, there is something special about this set.
Parcels live Volume I saved my mental health during the pandemic
OK MICHAEL ~ with that opening lick
If you enjoyed this, I must INSIST you check out L'imperatrice - Passengers (live) it will knock your socks off.
Fuck yeah, I've just seen my favorite vocal coach on youtube react to my favorite singer and now this pops up? You must be kidding me, I love this band. Yes indeed the sun is shining today :)
They're so tight and every song of theirs is a vibe :)
Parcels, huh? DAYUM. Sprained my finger clicking and liking. Fire brother, fire.
You were really having fun with that one. Great to watch, and hear.
