Great tips! One more scent tip to add…when I go browsing at a nice design store and find an amazing candle that I love but is outside my budget, I take note of what elements make up the scents (if it is higher-end they will be natural sources). Then I go home and buy essential oils of that kind and make my own concoction for my diffuser. For example, I recently found a sandalwood/rose scented candle but it was $50. So I just bought some sandalwood and rose essential oils, found a ratio I liked in my diffuser, and it smelled just like the candle! Way cheaper - and no smoke or fire involved! Plus you build a nice collection of oils to mix and match over time.

These are excellent tips, and out of mischief I was going to add a translation on why they look high end....
    1) Clutter free; translation; I have 3 other properties and can afford huge storage units to put away things that are out of season or throw out things when I don't need them.
    2) Clean; Translation; we have staff
    3) Big Art; translation; I buy original art
    4) Vintage rugs. translation; I'm from old money and inherited this stuff OR, We're well traveled.
    5) Lighting; translation; we got a designer in.
I swear by white bed linen. Pattern 'dates' a room, and visually patterned bed linen take up a lot of visual real estate in your design.

So I'm going with a more solid feeling and better looking stain nickel finished Baldwin locksets...locksmith is coming today to key everything and I'm working on ordering interior knobs. I also upgrade switch plates as I repaint or finish a room. New nice designed Switch plates are always a must for me. Its something simple and relatively inexpensive to do that helps a room pop a little.

This was very informative and helpful. I will have to admit I am a bit weary of the monotone color pallets but I can appreciate the value of them.

Speaking of scents, if you ever get the chance, visit the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort in New Mexico. One of the coolest things there is the entryway, as you enter they have this beautiful sage scent that envelops all around you and it's really amazing!!! It's a very natural soothing scent (not synthetic) that makes you feel really relaxed!!

I'd like for you to do a video on rustic mixed with contemporary. That's what my house is. I have the two story ceilings with barn wood beams and barn wood trim, and mantel but long rectangle windows. So sometimes it's hard to find a good balance.

Staying at a well run hotel is a great way to get ideas for setting up home but it doesn’t have to be an expensive place. Unfortunately expensive hotels really are the best place to get ideas. If a bathrooom had clever shelf placement shower design I took pictures and used those ideas. Professional designers are hired to do that work. Copy what they do. This is especially important if you are staying in a historic hotel. There are plenty f those in Europe and Canada. Good work girl!

My favorite furniture store has a special scent in their boutiques that I just totally love! I always have a spray bottle of it at home and try to spray it before friends come over or when I want to chill, though since it’s a spray I often forget it. But that’s a really great idea!
I also like the idea with the flower bouquets. But how long do they last, two weeks? That’s a lot of work and money to keep updating them, isn’t it?

    • @PoshPennies
      @PoshPennies  3 года назад +8

you can use high quality faux flowers instead. keep in mind that really high quality faux flowers are usually quite pricey - the positive part is that they last a whole lot longer than real flowers :) there's always debate on this one among designers lol - but i personally have no problem using faux if it looks realistic ♥

    • @Halbmond

@@PoshPennies I’m team faux flowers but I’m also a guy who can kill any plant. Reading it from you gives me the confidence that it’s not a bad solution! Maybe I could use a small real bouquet on the coffee table or dining table where you can smell it, but for other places, faux flowers seem like a good solution. What do you think about dried flowers - are they timeless or a fad? I kinda like them as well ...

Everything was beautiful I am just in love with white but I also love earthtones and particularly the deeper ones as accents Moss is one of my favorites and textures I love I also really adore brass sometimes antique and sometimes hammered and even sometimes just as it is smooth and elegant it’s not too bright and it’s not too doll and it does patina but I prefer it when there’s less patina
It’s funny how I could literally feel a shift in design even though I am no expert by any means I’m live in my car so I’m just watching and learning and listening and I can feel the shift from farmhouse into one more cottage luck it could be English cottage or a blend of that along with French country I just really love old things I love to repurpose them and make them look fresh and new maybe change their styles by over stuffing them a bit that would be my preference I’m in a place to live and maybe I’m doing all this research and imagining because I’m imagining a space that I’m going to manifest for myself at some point after a very long and arduous journey of abusive relationships and a final climax of becoming homeless and having to work and live from my vehicle for the last five years
As far as animal welfare is concerned it’s the upmost importance to me it is how I live my life in every way and how I live my life for the last 15 years I believe that all lives matter and therefore I would much rather go with something that is organic that comes from the plant world and leave the animals be in their beauty and their boldness because they simply are who they are and that is what makes them so magnificent
Thank you so much for sharing this video I really loved it

When I clean my house I put on Glee from RUclips and dance to the music while I’m sweeping, washing dishes, doing the laundry, mopping the floors, making the bed and bathtub- this way I’m not so much cleaning the house as I’m dancing and listening to old music. It does the trick for me. Usually I spend about 15 minutes a day doing these things so my house is always clean - even mopping the floors I do about three times a week.

Hi! I enjoyed your video! Since you brought up outlet covers... what are your thoughts regarding the color of them? I have painted over many of mine, so they disappear, but in other cases, I do not want to do that. I have some neutral walls, and the almond / off-whites will do, but I find that even new ones look a bit dingy, so I go with white. However, the white "pops," so I don't love this option, either, but at least it looks crisp and matches the trim...

Having spent over $2000 on winter goose down duvet, I can’t imagine purchasing another one. This one keeps me very, very warm. I would feel like I was in a sweat box if I had two of them together plus I can’t justify the cost of a second one just so my bedding looks puffier. I do have a quilt at the bottom on the bed and in the summer I use a quilt with a duvet laying across the bottom.
