- How To Edit Hosts File in Windows 10.
Modifying your hosts file enables you to override the domain name system (DNS) for a domain on a specific machine. DNS management is useful when you want to test your site without the test link prior to going live with SSL, verify that an alias site works prior to DNS changes, and for other DNS-related reasons.
Modifying your hosts file causes your local machine to look directly at the Internet Protocol (IP) address that you specify
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

what do i do if my hosts file isnt there in the first place?
@@sushiwithagun same thing just create it on desktop, copy paste whatever text you need into it, then drag it from desktop into the directory it's supposed to be in as shown in this video. Win10 won't let you edit it.

Imagine struggling with trying to get permissions to edit the file, when all you have to do is just move it to a space where you do have permissions, and then just moving it back. Like. What.

For those with administrator permission issues:
Step 1: Right click on the hosts file and select properties
Step 2: Go to Security
Step 3: Click on edit Permissions
Step 4: Allow users to have Full Control
Step 5: Apply
Now you will be able to save the file!

When I try to replace the file, It says you need permission to perform this action.
make sure u are signed in as admin (for example: if you use notepad to edit it run notepad as administrator)

Simplest Way To Modify your hosts file in Windows 10
Open Notepad with administrator privileges. (Right click on notepad and Run as Administrator)
Browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Or paste this into the address bar)
Open the file.
Make your changes. Save.
That short and simple!
