Because they're not ready for scratching into late take offs yet. Need those floaters to get in the wave early on. Size is there with Some good sections but over all the waters too deep and there’s a chop throwing things off. Typical California newbie crowd on shore of people who just moved there and have never seen surfers before.
Uh, the waves have size but mostly provide just a big peak, a hairy drop, and then a short shoulder that ends quickly. But really, the guys shown in this video are not the most skillful surfers around. It's kind of embarrassing.
I get your point. IMHO, these guys are still learning. And looks like just dropping in on overhead waves is kind of a big deal. Main thing: They were surfing overhead Steamer's. They get to own that. So right on to them.
Always make sure your board is so big that you can barely turn the thing...
Yea, Middle Peak was on, but it looks like the A-Team took the day off.
If this mush burger is what is considered “on” then little wonder the A-Team were somewhere else.
That's traditionally how you ride big middle peak. It's just a big drop in, gets people used to riding bigger waves
And don't burden yourself or do justice to the waves by having some skill in riding.
This wave is so mushy you can’t really surf it with a regular shortboard.
Gorgeous photography!
Many thanks!
Nice to see the dolphins out in the surf. Seal's are a whole 'nother story though. Not that I don't like them but they are nature's Purina shark-chow.
I don't have much sympathy for the seal lion either.

such a fun wave when the tide's low and the big peak connects!

How often is the surf like this here, looks super fun!
Not so often. You'll need a long period ground swell and no wind if possible.
