      My father, in the early 1920's, would row out to 'under-the-GG. Once, however, the tide/current sucked him out beyond the Gate, and it took him 6 hours to get back to Chrissi-Field area. All true. I myself, surfed Fort Point back in 1966-67. Had some good waves, while keeping close eye on the rocks. Since it was still military property at the time, the MP's would come down and yell through their bullhorns at us to come out. I just flipped them off. They would eventually drive away.

    • @blakestah
      @blakestah 11 месяцев назад

      Not any decent swell, but a lot of them. Very tide sensitive. Explore it when tides are quite low and you may figure out some of the swell window. Tides also come into play with currents, and those matter also. At the wrong tide, you can get ripped right out the gate and have to paddle to shore on the other side of the bridge.

      If you were to look at a map of san Francisco, you'd see where the bridge goes across the mouth of an extremely large bay , the swells are coming from the west, and this view is looking north across the bay towards marin county, which is mountainous, this place, fort point is right under the golden gate bridge, and , to be honest , rarely breaks and even more rarely that good , and chances are that with a swell of that magnatude it'll be 15 to 20 ft at ocean beach of san Francisco, and 50 ft at mavericks( half moon bay), this is doing quite well for this spot
