Look's like the Italians know how to make a ration. One of my biggest complaints about other rations is the lack of liquid/ fat in the food.
Being able to eat without having to cook and or source water, and still have the options to cook if no one was shooting at you.
I could easily take this ration and be well fed for 2.5 day's, I would combine the Tuna beans with the Minestrone with the crackers making a goulash. Same with the Beef/Aspic with Ravoli's/ crackers. This would give two good mains, with beverages.
It's good to see the high fat content for both mains, as it is this fat content that will burn slower while releasing more energy into the body.
And the fruit cup for 3 day's breakfast.
Having 3 small bars of dark chocolate would have given this 5 stars for the calorie dense ration, and a bonus of a cordial to sip on after one of the mains.
Damn near perfect ration for being a soldier.

    • @JennyEverywhere
      @JennyEverywhere 3 года назад +12

That's because US rations are still being hit with the "fat free" craze. They'd rather fill it full of sugary syrup than any fat or oil. Fat is ENERGY food. When you're a soldier, you need fuel. Sugar spikes your blood glucose and burns FAST, leaving you feeling starving. The fat in that tuna salad would be a long-burning fuel when you're expending a lot of energy. But the food scientists would rather "save" you from a potential 1 in 10,000 increased chance of getting a clogged artery in 30 years, and use heroic processing to get rid of the fat.
I blame the "food pyramid" that the government is still stuck with until they can change the USDA guidelines. We've known that they're wrong for a decade, maybe longer, but they still push that crap, and that's why there's an obesity epidemic.

@@JennyEverywhere I learnt from 1st hand experience that mountaineering a long time ago leading a team up Mount Rainier, that you never take advice from a White Lab Coat Eugenics like Dr F or {Dr larping} Bill G.
Two of my team mates my future wife, and a buddy heard from 2 Guided noobs that Twinkies at the were the super food for their extreme lightness and high energy density.
Now I thought my future wife had more sense than to trade her high fat, dense protein, high fibre, home made bars, we made just for this trip.
My Buddy also traded his dense Cliff Bars for a box of Twinkies.
i had of course out passed them and I hit the Snowfield 1st as only a guide/s should do.
You can't make it to the snow field alone then I ain't talking you any further in the Hills, was and is my rule.
Anyhoo, we all made to the 1st camp, set up our tents and cooked and slept.
The next day/night we went for camp 2, same thing happened, I was clueless at this point that they had traded noobs their high fat food for Twinkies.
That night while at almost asleep finally I heard both my future wife and buddy rustling through their packs for food, I had a very high fat home made dinner, as they did, however before I went to go into my bag I ate 4.5lbs of fat heavy home made energy bars, they were dense and tasty, bacon/chocolate Sea salt meat bars. Kinda like a fresh Pemican.
As we were to go for our summit attempt that night.
So I went sleep, about 12 am I was awoken once again by both my buddy and future wife, we had our alarms set for 3am, yet it was only 12:39 am, they woke up /when they had burnt off their calories from dinner.
That morning I decided to wait for another night and allow them to eat more and relax more, and acclimated to the thin air, they were quite thankful and I watched two humans like the inside of their Twinky wrappers while I sat back and ate my Home Made Power Bars to this day they still owe me for sharing with them those Home Bar's.
I have never seen two humans so disappointed in their trade, as the Twinky wrappers expanded within the box, two bad both of them threw out the box they come in.
So the individual Twinkies could find a special place to explode within and cover item's with a creamy goodness.
It was 1st time I ever saw a human lick the side of the tent for the creamy goodness, etc, and off a dirty ass tent bag/ sleeping pads etc
      .
When I witnessed that my laughter was so bad and it was so funny, I pissed myself a little, about a cup of pee came out.
You'd have thought they had never eaten before.
I'd love to see these Lab Coat Eugenics go and fight when 5,000 -7,000 calories are needed , yet they only give 2,000. Fuck these Evil NAZI Scientists.

Fun fact: the presence of alcohol in the Italian MRE is due to the geographic conformation of the Italian peninsula. Italy is surrounded on three sides by the Mediterranean Sea, leaving just the northern mountainous regions for potential enemies to invade; that's why boozes were considered necessaries for soldiers, because they had to warm them up in case of mountain fights

If I remember well the new "Italian Ration Pack Project" was presented about 2012 with no cans, less liquid in food, and self heating envelopes. If I remember well, tested in Afghanistan, but soldiers didn't liked it so much.
I don't see a real problem having food with good quantity of liquids (excluding very low temperature territories). A person needs water, so have to bring water with themselves. Finding water locally is not always the best option since possible contamination and realted health problems that can occur.

A lot of the foreign rations are really expensive! Heck, some of the American 24hr rations are about this expensive! They have to be shipped over here. Shipping international is really expensive!

@@hislatestflame7861 Yeah, but for *you,* they just have to load it on a lorry and drive it through the chunnel and it'll be in Dover in a few hours. For *us,* we have to consider the cost of international shipping. Even from the UK, that's approximately $45 (35 pounds sterling) for a single ration, and it'll take at least a week.

Hmmm yeah. So a bunch of accessories and not much in the way of food. What they do have comes from canned food one could buy at the grocery almost anywhere. $250 for one of these? Is it just because it has alcohol? Because I can go to the liquor store. I’m not trying to be a jerk. I’m trying to understand the appeal.
