Cheese and vegemite is a classic mix in Australia, we call it cheesymite and every bakery makes scrolls with it mixed in. Vegemite even came out with a jar that already had cheese in it. But traditionally the thing is a piece of toast, spread of butter, a light spread of vegemite on top and if you want a slice of cheese on top of that. Glad you instinctively picked up on the idea of the cheese and vegemite going together.
Hey, Readiness Rations! Little tip. It has been my experience that when preparing powdered/crystallized drink mixes. Rather you want to consume hot or cold, ALWAYS use a little hot water to disolve the mix, if you have access to hot water. Then add your cold water. This works especially well with older, clumped or slightly expired mixes. It even works if youre in the mood for chocolate milk instead of hot cocoa.
I've seen so many MRE reviews and you are the first one to use the sweetened condensed milk as intended. I have seen *nobody* put it in the coffee or tea, but that's actually what it is supposed to be used for. That and added to oatmeal or museli. The reviews I have seen have had the person put the sweetened condensed milk on crackers or cookies, which of course is good too, but not what it is intended for. I think sweetened condensed milk is delicious and I love to put it in coffee or tea and lightens and sweetens it better than sugar or creamer. It has so many uses though and is such a versatile component, I think sweetened condensed milk should be included in every ration on the planet, just like salt and sugar.
I got one from guy in Guam on Ebay. Menu F. 2018 made. Came in fine in about a week. Only things still edible with caution, was the 2 mains, the mashed potato's, The can of cheese and bread was still OK, oddly enough. The can of peaches was about to explode. Add the entire salt, pepper and ketchup pack to the mashed potato's. Had to toss many items. Choc bar was solid bloom. Good luck, Bro. Nice work, anyhow.
I have always wanted to try the Australian ration. This looks very good. I have seen, to date, 7 videos reviewing an Australian ration (whether 24-hour or individual meal) and I have yet to see one that has the crackers intact. They seem to be the first casualty right off the bat. I think they just crush the package before packing it in the bag.
Two things, the Yeast Extract can be used to make a beefy tasting soup and goes well with the noodles. For maximum flavor with the coffee, put some of the chocolate into the cup, melted if you can swing it with some of the sweetened condensed milk. Trust me, Steve1989 has done it a few times, and I picked it up. I use Bordens squeezey tube and U-Bet Chocolate Syrup with some instant coffee, and its awesome.
I'm pretty sure the chocolate white bits was copha. The white powdery look of the chocolate is due to copha and low liquid content so it doesn't melt in the kit and rehydrate in your mouth. We invented the ration pack so we've had. A lot of practice getting them right. Love me Aussie rat packs
The ration really needs butter or margarine to go with the Vegemite. You did however stumble onto an Australian delicacy. Cheddarmite. Vegemite and cheese. It's so much a thing that places sell bread scrolls with vegemite and cheese. It's better with tasty/matured cheddar cheese however.
If you're "out and about", you put the fruit bar, muesli bar, condensed milk, vegemite, coffee, jam, sweet bikkies, isotonic drink, and milkshake in your pockets for easy snacks. You just suck it out of the tube. Vegemite is salty, it's an isotonic replacement. Suck on the jam and condensed milk for sugar. Pour the dry coffee in your mouth, a suck of condensed milk, and a chug of water from your canteen. Swish it around, that's a latte.
The best way to have mi goreng noodles (indonesian), for me, is to stick the noodles in a mess tin with boiling water and add the 3 sauces to the boiling water. Instead of draining the liquid, eat everything together - tastes superb! Vegemite and marmite which are vegetable based (Aussies love their vegemite) SUCK! Try Bovril rather! (beef based). Sustagen is basically meant to be a meal replacement or meal in a cup. Condense milk is used just like creamer.
Your taste buds must be broken is you think yeast extract is umami. Umami literally means "essence of deliciousness". There is nothing delicious about yeast extract.

Love me some Vegemite and cheese grilled sandwiches

I’ve never seen someone mess up cooking noodles so spectacularly.
If it can be messed up I'll surely do it
I'm so glad you discovered the cheese, bread and black gold combination 👍💯
haha was pretty happy to see that too

I would have boiled up the muesli like porridge, let it sit awhile, then stirred in some condensed milk.
it's impressive the vegemite on the MRE! it's very aussie stuff! makes AUS proud! keep the good work!
It's enough vegemite for several meals for sure!
awesome, pls keep doing ration reviews from different countries.
2yr shelf life, and it held up pretty well after 6yrs. I'm pretty happy with my country.

If you ever get a ramen pack like that again, put those sauce packs in with the water. They will loosen up right away!
You're not wrong but it ain't right
He making chili oil noodle. If you put the sauce along the noodle water and you drain the noodle water, you won’t have any sauce left 😂

I actually stopped watching the video to make a cup of coffee.
Awesome video RR
alot of those products are actually made in new zealand, the company are pretty awesome, if you order enough they make your MREs to your spec
Nice review that yeast extract when I tried it was brutal 😂😂😂😂
Should I add your sugar and condensed milk to your tap of tea or milk powder
Nice reviews :)
Ive never seen anyone get their hands on the 5 man ration packs that were issued to armour crews. They have dehydrated meals in them too
Yeah you should've put half as much creamer in your tea but it's okay, sometimes I get a little heavy handed with the milk when I'm making a cuppa
Add another pepper, another coffee and change potato's for rice and 1 tea for hot chocolate and that would be perfect.

Nah thats the chocolate blooming where the fat seppates from it over time. If you open a fresh ration they dont look like that
@@KipKil1igan they always looked like that in my issued rat packs and they were fresh.

The amount of packaging/waste in this ration warrants another look at. Such great food. Thanks for the video!
you need to try promite its my favorite of all the yeast extracts a thinner and sweater vegemite
Never heard of it but I'll keep an eye out now!

I've watched Steve1989 do an Australian CR1M before and he also did a New Zealand ration that was similar to it.
Looks great.
Should try your bread yeast extract and Bega Cheese together
You sure you didn’t have a coffee or 5 before filming this?
Try a thin smear of the yeast extract and the cheese on bread.
I know in a ration you get what you are given but if you make mashed potato's off camera try white pepper- much better than black on spuds
I've never thought to try that but I'll give it a shot! Generally I only use white pepper when I make Chinese inspired dishes.
The middle source in the noodles is meant to be a chilli
If you cut back about 76% of the vegimite you’ll find it very enjoyable and it will boost your energy.
It's an Aussie thing, dead horse goes with everything, but is good with mash !!
Yeast extract is Vegemite

Well now I have the taste for butter chicken.
This is an mre I would love to munch
vegamite was developed when the Aussies could not get Marmite from England during the wars.
damn this MRE has lots of add ons, not much real food though. But its more like for a kid with all these sweets.
He is no Steve1989!!
Should never eat it by itself straight out of the tube like that it will put you off
I would say Australian ration is the best in the world
You don't eat muesli dry and its far better to hydrate in the pouch, it comes in Brit rat packs too, its good stuff.
As ex Bucket the napkins are not napkins that's your date roll{toilet paper}
All looked good but , No to the veg a mite !!
The worst thing about Indian food is that it tastes like Indian food.
This MRE is sponsored by McDonald's. The junk in there is hilarious...
Sorry, you were beaten to the punch!
The bag is to throw your rubbish out.
Watch Steve 1989 if you want to actually learn about mre,s
Woohoo! First view
2 nd
Third!
Use the cheese with the cream crackers, vegemite (thin, with or without cheese) or jam with bread!
Your taste buds must be broken is you think yeast extract is umami. Umami literally means "essence of deliciousness". There is nothing delicious about yeast extract.
FRED fecking ridiculous eating device. 😂 But still the most reliable can opener.
