    For a minibot, Legacy Beachcomber is solid (hardly any gaps) and with the pinned-on rubbery tires, he's a hefty boy. I'd gladly pay $25 a pop for more minibots in this style and this good.

    This figure is a PERFECT update to Beachcomber, the simplicity, the elegance, the ease of transformation, the groovy-coolness, he's got it all! OF COURSE he's small, he's a little dude! He's just a smooth-talkin', smooth-rollin', peace-loving little fella, and that's all Beachcomber fans (there's presumably up to dozens of us!) want out of a figure.
    I think Beachcomber represents something important in TF as a franchise, the dream of a peaceful future, of the war not ending with one side eradicating the other, but with both sides coming to see that such fighting is a foolish tragedy, even when the 'right side' "wins".
    Also, Beachy-C is based (ironically) on a M1040 Chenowth “Hellfire” fast attack vehicle.

      Well, now beachcomber’s inclusion in the 85 minibots makes sense! The other vehicle modes were some kind of military vehicle, including the Haunabu-style UFO if you go by the lore that it’s a German design from the 1940s.

    I'm loving that the minibots are getting all the love they deserve, but where is my boy powerglide!? I wonder if they'll have him do the heart in his chest thing from his iconic episode "The Girl who loved Powerglide" or if he'll have like...a human alliance figure of her...THAT would be hilarious.

    Fun fact: Legacy Armada Optimus was meant to have rubber Treads on his trailer, but it caused some problems with the transformation, that's why they've changed it but you can see that they kept those fake wheels inside the treads pinned.

    G1 Beachcomber was one of the few minibots I had as a kid and was an absolute favorite. Oddly, growing up, I missed the "stoner" personality, and he was just a laid-back bot who didn't want to fight, but could when he needed to, and that still kinda how I see him today. As such, as soon as this toy was announced, I knew I was going to get it. And now that I have it in hand, I've no regrets. Looks fantastic, lifted right from the cartoon. I also love that they gave him a gun. I may buy a second one to keep in vehicle mode in the not-too-distant future.

    If the POTP transformation ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
    In all fairness, Power of the Primes really does deserve more love. Aside from Abominus (the one that everyone points to as the only good combiner in the series), its good figures include Battletrap (wouldn’t mind seeing him get a rerelease in Buzzworthy; he holds up surprisingly well), Orion/Optimus, Hot Rod/Rodimus (especially in his totally not SG colors), Inferno (a great last hurrah for the CW Hot Spot mold), and the Beachcomber who this guy used as inspiration. It’s easy to bash just because of its bad habits (fembots mostly being the same mold, Starscream being dreadful, the Dinobots being just… no), but it was a decent end to the Prime Wars trilogy. Not a good end (and significantly lesser than Titans Return), but a decent enough one.

  • @RockinRhinox
    @RockinRhinox Год назад +1

    For me it's more like I already have this have this figure. He is really just an upscaled version of the Power of the Prime figure. Of all of the mini-bots who have been "upscaled" to a deluxe Beachcomber is by far the most derivate of his POTP figure. The transformation is almost exactly the same and the only new things this one is brining to a table is a bird and rubber tires. That is not nearly enough different to get me to buy it, I'm sticking with the POTP figure.

    This figure feels like they took the design concept of the Core Class Beachcomber from Power of the Primes, and gave it a bunch of frills to bump it up to a Deluxe price point. I haven't seen a size-comparison between the two yet, so I don't know how much this is upscaled, but this might be a case of "I see the value in the upgrade, but I'm satisfied without it."

    • @Trebleshot
      @Trebleshot Год назад

      While they did reuse some of the engineering, he's not an upscaled version of the previous figure. All-new mold, and much bigger. But being a Minibot, still on the small side for a deluxe. Fantastic update and fits right in with his deluxe Minibot buddies.

    The original alt-mode that Beachcomber had was a 1982 Chenowth "Hellfire" FAV, a military dune buggy. So the pacifist Beachcomber, had an alt-mode based on a military vehicle. How ironic.

    I’ll be honest, even if he is small and kinda basic for a Deluxe is that even a big deal when the end result is just a really good Beachcomber? Like, I pay for the quality of the end result, not an arbitrary size and a quota for number of transformation steps. You could have passed this off on a Masterpiece shelf back in the late 2010s.

  • @RialVestro
    @RialVestro Год назад

    I don't think the issue was expecting anything more from Beachcomber. I think the issue is that he's being sold as a Deluxe class figure but he's not the same scale as other Deluxe class figures. And this isn't even the usual issue of the figures getting smaller over time like other Deluxe class figures in the same wave as this toy are bigger and have more parts than this guy does. He is too big for a Core class class but actually fits in with the old Legends class that they don't actually make anymore.
    Also... I don't understand anyone saying they're paying for rubber tires as if that's suppose to be a good thing. Did y'all forget about RID2001? That entire toy line actually had rubber tires and those figures all ended up deteriorating after about 10 years because of said rubber tires. Those rubber tires are worse than gold plastic, worse than translucent plastic, worse than the chrome on Transmetals, cause I've actually gotten lucky with all those things and not experienced breakage but rubber tires have managed to break on my RID2001 figures from just sitting on my shelf not even moving. I do not expect this figure to survive more than 10 years. Granted my RotF Jetfire is still some how in one piece and that thing has rubber parts I was expecting to have deteriorated by 2019 but those parts are also a bit thicker so maybe it's taking longer for the rubber to deteriorate. Still I've personally experienced more breakage from that type of material than any other type of plastic and there are other documented cases of the same thing happen to other figures using that material.
    The rubber tires is something that sounds cool on paper because real car tires would be rubber but ends up being awful when the stuff just breaks apart over time. You don't even have to do anything to it, the stuff will just randomly snap in half after a while. I also worry about my Generations Blitzwing cause his faces are made of that material so I'm literally expecting to see a faceless Blitzwing sitting on my desk at some point unless I die before he does.
    Anyway I actually think this figure would be worth more if he DIDN'T have rubber tires because if they were solid I'd know he was actually going to survive more than 10 years. If I'm going to pay $25 for this I'd rather have an upscale version with solid parts. To me this is a large Core class not a small Deluxe. And that tells you how much I don't trust rubber tires.
