Hi! I have been following your content on Instagram and have recently been watching and re-watching your videos on RUclips as they are jam packed with useful information. I recently completed my PhD and I am looking into transitioning into academia. One of the roles I am looking into is medical writing. So in the past I have worked as ghostwriter for various third party recruiters of content writers so the pieces I wrote I don't know if they exist on some blog or media page now since they don't have my name on them. In that case how would you suggest I go about creating my portfolio using the tools that you just mentioned?

You could recreate 3-5 of the pieces you wrote - maybe on an adjacent topic not the exact one as before. Once you have created those, you can save them as PDFs and upload them to Contently. It doesn't matter if what you have written is published on the web or not. What matters is that you demonstrate your ability to write.

Hello. Do you have any suggestions for things to write from scratch if we don't have any writing to put in our portfolio? I think it would be weird and inappropriate to just put essays and reports from college. I want to create journal articles, regulatory articles, etc, but I have never been assigned to write one to have in my past work. Should I just look up recent clinical studies and just make up my own?

Pick a topic you know a lot about. And then write a 500-1000 word educational piece on it. Repeat that 3 more times. Proofread for clarity of language and spell-check. Use that as a starting point for your portfolio.

@@TheBoldPhDquick question would I need to include abstracts discussion results section in that 500-1000 word piece so like an essay or lab report or am I solely writing on what I know so I’ll include a subheading of the topic and just write underneath that?

@@Ghost_1486 Here I was talking more of educational articles like you would encounter on VeryWell or WebMD. Not a lab report or paper.

Hello again! What platform did you use to build your own website? I see you use wordpress for your blog. I have a blog dedicated to health and wellness - but I haven't created any content for outside sources. Do you think sharing the link to my blog will be a good move to share with employers for a medical writing position (instead of creating another website with the same articles that are in my blog)? Hi again! My website is built on Wordpress as well. I use the Divi Theme.
For medical writing roles, I think it is best to share relevant/medical adjacent pieces as part of your portfolio. If your blog is focused on this area, then yes, you could share your blog. Otherwise I like to share a dedicated page with curated links to relevant writing.
      I hope that makes sense.
