How to Pass a Medical Writing Test

  • Medical writing tests are a mainstay in the recruitment process of medical writers.
    Employers use them to assess writing ability and competence at interpreting clinical data.
    Yet despite their common use, there’s very little info freely available about what to expect from a writing test, or more to the point - what’s expected from you as the applicant!
    This can be an issue for aspiring medical writers, who are not yet familiar with writing test best practice.
    To help address this issue, I’ve recorded a conversation with Vera Chan (a medical writer and host of the PhD Coffee Time channel), about our experiences of medical writing tests, to help aspiring writers prepare for these assessments.
    In this video you will find out:
    - Why employers use medical writing tests and how they incorporate them into the hiring process
    - The types of tests you might get asked to write
    - What to include in your medical writing tests in order to pass
    Thanks for your insights Vera!

    Really glad to have found this channel. I'm transitioning to a freelance medical/health writer as a side gig before jumping into it full time once I retire from my corporate job. Is there another avenue to use if we have further clarifications ?

    Thank you for these useful tips!! I submitted my completed medical writing test about 10 days ago and have not heard back yet. Do you think it's too early to email them and ask for an update? I really want to know if I passed or not, but don't want to come off as impatient.

    The medical writing jobs you are talking are mostly posted by multinational CRO. Can a foreign doctors who have experiences apply for the jobs ?? Or Do i need working visa to apply even the jobs will be done remotely (Fully Remote) ?

    My tests were only 45 min to 1 hour! How to prep for those?

    • @biomedbadass4064
      @biomedbadass4064  Год назад

      I guess these may have been on site. It can be challenging to prep for these. From my experience I've had to write a short summary/abstract, and a copy editing test during an interview day before. You can practice both of these writing deliverables in advance

    What type of creativity is expected for the pharmaceutical industry?

    • @biomedbadass4064
      @biomedbadass4064  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question. There's a certain 'style' that's expected for all the documents we produce in pharma. Examples probably illustrate this best: search.slidegeeks.com/powerpoint/Pharmaceutical.
      ...So use of icons, and graphics to make the information as visually appealing as possible is important. Hope that answers your question okay?

    Other examples are scientific posters and scientific agenda development. That's what I've been given before!

      Wow a poster for a test is a big ask! Thanks for flagging this as a potential medical writing test subject too
