- Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White has sparked major backlash-and it’s not just because of Rachel Zegler’s controversial comments. In this video, I dive deep into why this remake is causing such an uproar, especially when other reimagined classics like Maleficent were widely accepted despite significant changes.
We'll explore Disney’s long history of storytelling, from the original Snow White to the Renaissance era, and how the company’s recent focus on ideology over narrative has left fans disappointed. I also compare the new Snow White to other adaptations like Mirror Mirror and Once Upon a Time, which managed to put a fresh spin on the classic tale while staying true to its essence.
Join me as I break down what Disney got right in past live-actions and why this latest remake is missing the mark. If you’re passionate about storytelling, classic tales, or just want to understand the controversy surrounding Disney’s latest choices, this video is for you.

Maleficent wasn’t trying to push a political message. Its goal was to entertain, not “educate”.
Are you sure? Because even before the culture wars i though that movie made maleficent waaaaay to victimize and the bad guy waaayy too cartonisly evil (even down with having a shitty british acent) that feels more pandering than today standards.
Just like in the joker movie they made the joker into an incel and the rich people into Michael moore characters.
Sometimes the shit you love is just as guilty, if not more than the shit you hate.
Next time you will tell me that the cinderella remake was well writtinen... and its not. Even if its before the culture wars
@@motor4X4kombat I was too narrowly focused on Disney’s current trend to race swap everything, noting they didn’t do that with Maleficent. But, you’re right. Your point is valid.

@@motor4X4kombat na, the youtuber should've compared snow white with Cinderella, a real masterpiece.
@@empanda.123o masterpiece of disaster
Maleficent didn't change Aurora's story, the film switched perspectives to give us Maleficent's story to explain her motivations- we hadn't seen this before so it was well received because it was brand new. The live actions aren't supposed to reinvent the wheel - they were supposed to tell us the same story in a new way. Snow White is changing the story and giving the titular character new motivations we don't care to see. Disney is changing the story for no other reason than to cram unpopular ideology down our throats and we reject it
You're right about that
You said it better than I can. I actually liked "Maleficent",even though some do say that that movie was made when Disney was jealous of "Wicked"

Sure and luke and will will never be aware that vader is his father even if he told him in front of him
To this day, the Maleficent films and Cinderella (2015) are my personal favorite live-action Disney films. I love the Maleficent films for not just flat out remaking Sleeping Beauty, but providing a new perspective on the villain's side and explained how she was. Cinderella was great because it understood the source material and changed just enough aspects of the story so that it wasn't a carbon copy of the 1950 original animated film, but kept the heart of the story so that we still recognized it as the same fairy tale we grew to love.
I loved both Maleficent movies. Angelina was perfectly cast, and I did feel a tremendous amount of sympathy for the character, as would anyone who witnesses trust being violated to such an extent. She was strong, but also openly exposed a vulnerability, making her very believable - not like the phoney-@$$ boss babes Hollywood rams down our throat with regularity these days.
I agree. Both the live action Maleficent and Cinderella movies are my favorites of the live action Disney remakes.
I loved the maleficent films too mainly bc it’s from the villains point of view for once, Disney films are almost always just the same story with different characters and slightly different cercomstansis (no idea how to spell that and auto correct failed me)
Cinderella (2015) is still one, if not, the best LA of Disney and Lily James is freaking beautiful.
@KillberZomL4D42494 I agree. Rachel just isn’t the right role. I’m a Black girl and I am NO WHERE above racism. But they really should have gone with a white actor that isn’t ugly.
snow white is description in the book is "She had skin as white as the fresly fallen snow, her lips were as red as blood her cheeks rosy red as her lips and her hair black as the wood on this window frame her eyes dark as the night in the sky "dark blue" i dont think rachel looks like that at all" Weird Weird Weird Weird Weird
Yep exactly, & you can only imagine what would have happened if the situation was the opposite: with a non-white character all the hell breaks loose, but never vice versa, if one doesn't want to be called bad names in this current "woke society" has to shut up...ah the hypocrisy!🙄
However, all in all I agree with the video, but sort of politely disagree about Zegler, her real life personality is ruining many of the characters she supposedly enjoy to portray on screen, particularly this 1.
Also Halle Bailey had to face harsh criticism, even if it wasn't clearly her fault about TLM live action, but handled it with much more grace & dignity.💜👏
Of course after all the backlash, Disney forced Zegler to do some different kind of interviews, but she remains the same & is working to actively crash the Disney brand it seems...I mean, now - after all that pr stuff! - she should perfectly know what to expect, but regardless, even after seeing how bad this 1st SnowWhite trailer has been received, chosed to ignore it to celebrate its supposed great success & to link DIRECTLY to this comment another very political & divisive 1, even having on board an Israeli actress like co-star Gal Gadot, that left me speechless.
It's totally unprofessional, never apologizing as well, & lest we forget, Gina Carano was fired for way less, double standards much?!🤦

4:54 I'm sorry - but the princesses are diverse: their origins are from different countries (therefore different cultures) of Europe. Skin colour isn't the only thing that makes us diverse!
You want to show people of different colour? Then do it with respect and search for stories in South America or Africa and so on and leave the European fairytales alone.
Next time you state that _Truth,_ don't start it with "I'm sorry"! Say that sh!t with your chest, because it's TRUE! We don't apologize for loving our Western heritage, or for our skin color.
Yes! Disney prove that they can make a story based on non european tales like moana and encanto that turn out to be massive success. Why they didnt do it again?
@@abeleva_vera yea when there are few princesses of colour originally as well, tiana, mula, jasmine? like alll princesses are from different countries.
Little mermaid too, I did like her in the live action but we literally have no ginger representation in the media.. And now the only princess who’s supposed be as white as snow.. They’re also making the same thing with how to train your dragon live action too. They’re Vikings!
What makes me even more angry is the fact that people of color have so many amazing women, both historical and mythological. Like Amanirenas, the warrior Queen!
If they want to create stories that actually represents a strong, independent poc woman, there’s tons of stories out there!
There wasn't a shred of the original Snow White's personality. Rachal is also the part of the problem of the movie's downfall
there was but she made it all about snow white being a damsel who likes the prince like that girl ran away from her stepmother to live with the dwarfs.
@viviennemorgan7217 At least Snow did what Cinderella didn’t. Besides that, she had a good reason to leave. Would you REALLY wanna be locked in your room for the rest of your life, just because she’s mad that you’re prettier than her? Rachel is nowhere as pretty as Gal. Gal is the EXACT OPPOSITE of Rachel. Gal is caring, kind, a good person. Rachel isn’t. Why don’t they just swap roles? Because Disney uses diversity as it’s “cash cow.”

I don't care about what Disney has put out since they cast Annabeth in the new Percy Jackson series as black. I'm a POC, and call me racist if you want but change the main characters to black is not progressive whatsoever.
Even though I had no issue with Halle Bailey playing Ariel, I agree about Annabeth. That made no sense at all.
@@AJGaming-wh8rf
Ariel didn’t make any sense either (you live underwater; what’s encouraging melanin production?), and possibly less sense because unless you want to imply that Triton has had kids with quite a few women, his daughters should look at least vaguely like each other, yet they deliberately cast them as all different ethnicities.
@@John-fk2kyMaking them different ethnicities made no sense either. Disney thought they were being inclusive but people just thought Triton got busy with a lot of ethnic women lmao.
@@John-fk2ky Mermaids are fictional characters and do not exist. It does not matter what race a mythical creature is.
@@AJGaming-wh8rfsame, i dont get why people who makes the live action wants to change everything of the physical description of some characters. like is there something wrong with how where they designed originally, are the physical traits the author gave them problematic for them to change it?.
Angelina managed to get her role done 10 times way better than any of the characters that are played by the actors in snow white..... actually scratch that there's BARELY any actors. At least the story change in maleficent made you want to know more about not just maleficent but the creatures in the film, also Angelina Jolie does justice in her role in the film. Gal Gadot makes no sense, and even worse seeing Rachel completely misses the root of the film being the very sprout where Disney flourished. Instead of dissing the film for its "outdated" story 🙄 (God she was such an idiot for saying this) why not work on the fact the character isn't asking for anything, but giving kindness all the way.
rachel thinks that snow white is all about a guy who stalks her like girl it's about snow white and the seven dwarves for pete's sake not snow white and the prince if anyone does some sort of stalking is the evil queen.
And she imposes herself onto the dwarves home and made them do all the work, and that's what she refers to as _Leadership_
I have been ranting about the differences between this Snow White and the 2017 Cinderella and Maleficent for days now, and my husband is so confused 😂 I'm like "JUST LOOK AT THIS CHEAP HALLOWEEN COSTUME OF A DRESS COMPARED TO THE GLORIOUS BREATHTAKING MAJESTY OF THE CINDERELLA DRESS! THIS IS A TRAVESTY" and he's just like "...okay honey. I love you!" 😂
And beyond just the costuming, you're 100% right: people LOVE and have always loved the Disney princesses for their inspirational, above-average virtuousness, kindness, patience, maturity, sweetness, and gentleness. The live action Cinderella and Maleficent are generally beloved because they maintained those traits in the princess. The live action Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin, and now Snow White are generally laughed at and disliked because they took away _those specific characteristics,_ because being endlessly patient, kind, feminine, and HUMBLE is not "Progressive Girlboss" enough.
And I say all that as a 24-year-old woman. I'm a girl who loves old-fashioned princesses and hates the new feminist ones.
Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland were good adaptations to me, both heavily being inspired by old movies but with way different approach and perspective on the story, something that today's adaptations lack
I don't get how the Prince was stalking Snow White anyway? The guy doesn't show up until the very end lol
They have a brief encounter at the well and Snow runs away when she sees him then don't reunite until the end.
Zegler IS the reason it is so off putting, her comments account for 90% of the backlash. People had the same beef with the little mermaid but the cast at least were more restrained. Saying she got caught in the crossfire is very dismissive. Her comments stung. She doesn't get off the hook. If she kept her mouth shut maybe more would be interested, The other 10% is Dinklage and his ego
Agreed, but I would argue that even if she had kept her mouth shut, the backlash to the trailer would have been just as vehement. They still refused _7_ dwarf actors jobs, and they _still_ turned a gentle, kind, humble, hardworking, feminine princess into a "Loud and Proud Progressive Girlboss". We could have seen that JUST from the trailer, where she's singing for the _dwarves_ to work while she does nothing. Zegler only spoiled how bad it was going to be a few months early. The way they're botching the film in the name of DEI is just as offputting without her.
She sort of got herself into this. And Disney just never changes, the mouse only cares about how much money this stuff will make.
@jaanhavi0_0 actually I think they have lost the ability to make a profit with movies. It would have been VERY easy to make this work
@@bletheringfool
Tbh I think it would have flopped no matter what. Even without all the weird changes, bad CGI, ugly costumes, and anything else worthy of backlash, it’s still just another remake. They’re getting so old by this point.
Maleficent worked because they told you right from the get go that “this wasn’t the story you knew” which was literally the first line in the movie.
Maleficent worked, because it was an actual reimagination of it, and not just a redo with the same name.
The problem comes, when you want to make a live action movie of something, you give it the same name, so people will expect it to be the same, and then when its not, well, there's your problem.
rather than change her race, better make another character.. just like spiderman peter parker and spiderman miles morales.. both could work and not change the character and the story.. disney can make another princess from many legends in asia, africa, and south america..
5:13 CORSETS AREN’T BAD the way you’re wearing them is. If you wear it with nothing between your skin and the corset, yeah it’s going to be uncomfortable, that’s what chemises and shifts are for! If you’re lacing it as tight as it will go, it will be uncomfortable. Corsets are to give the fashionable shape to a garment, not a size
The sad thing is there are dozens of fairy tales from diverse places that should naturally feature a diverse cast. But, not only did Disney not care to try for one of those, like Pixar's more recent successes, they also don't care to showcase actual diversity. see, e.g., the cgi dwarves.

2026-2025 Live Action Remakes: 👎🙂↔️
Are you implying _The Jungle Book_ and _Pete's Dragon_ are bad? Because they're not.
The big reason is respecting the source material, the live action maleficent (sleeping beauty) and Cinderella worked bc they respected the source and wanted to re make it to appeal to modern day audiences while also showing respect and appreciation for the original which is what a remake should do, all tho remakes are usually quick lazy cash grabs the ones that do it with respect and appreciation for the OG always perform well with audiences, show white bashed the original and had no respect for the original and had this mindset that there version was “better”, the other too movies didn’t have this superiority complex about itself and respected the original while trying to make it more up to date with Modern audiences, show white just went around calling the og bad and stupid and that there’s was WAYY better (news flash it wasn’t) the first too show that remakes don’t have to just be lazy cash grabs trying to appeal to modern day audiences and can honour the original while creating a version fans of the original and modern day audiences can enjoy and that’s why it worked

I always think back to that cancelled CGI seven dwarves prequel film that never came to be; back when they were needlessly chugging out straight to DVD films.
It was apparently meant to show how the dwarves met and how the queen took over from Snow White's Father. Say what you will, but that sounded a lot more interesting than what the current remake's offering.
I know her dress looks exactly like the movie but PLEASE THE DRESS LOOKS SO BAD. There’s no thought put to it, shes supposed to be a princess and while her stepmother doesn’t let her wear expensive things, that dress looks like a costume 😭, give her something actually beautiful PLEASE DISNEY

What I like about maleficent is that when aurora was cursed maleficent is the one who kissed her and broke her curse not some prince charming who just came out of nowhere and is forced to become the love interest of the heroin, no it doesn't work like that as What Elsa from frozen is trying to point out. The curse broke because maleficent grew attachment and love to aurora that's what freed her from the curse, you don't need a prince charming guy's kiss and call it true love.
The biggest issue is the stories are based off of Grims fairytales, which are based on real legends from other countries
In this adaptation of Snow White. Snow White meets a different race of people and treats them like slaves.
How....progressive.
If i may share something about the original Snow white, I have always considered it a very mid story movie ever since i watched it as a child, with a very simple and straight forward story.
(WAIT HOLD YOUR TORCHES)
Then i rewatched a few weeks ago and understood why this movie was so FUCKING GOOD. The animation team worked very hard and it shows, I honestly felt like Ego, eatting the main dish from ratatouie, when watching it. It hit home in all the scenes that are doing story building, even the dwarfs washing up.
I always forget that maleficent is a remake of sleeping beauty. The movie just stands well on its own two feet.
I'm so glad you brough up some of the other adaptations of Snow White. Disney loves to act like there aren't already better adaptations and these live action monstrosities are all we get to have. This was a story they could have expanded upon instead of destroying.
Rachel majorly trashed this classic movie. She insulted the source material, talked about Andrew’s scenes being entirely cut off and laughed it off. I kept watching her interviews and every expressions she showed while spreading insults was just plain disrespectful. A horrible casting and horrible actress. I’ll never watch any movie she is in.
snow white in the classic movie was like 14 just ran through the forest terrified for her life all night then came across a cottage she thought children lived in saw how dirty it was and cleaned it for them then when she found out it was seven grown dwarves and the dwarves found out she was on the run from the queen they al agreed she could have shelter and protection in exchange for cooking and cleaning and they all grew to care for each other those that actually watched snow white and put it into historical context will see that it's actually progressive and timeless not "weird weird"
the modern badass I don't need a man to save me all girls should reject pink and feminine things is way past tired and is obnoxious there's nothing wrong with being feminine nice wanting a man or liking housework
let this be a lesson hollywood don't let your lead actor shit talk the beloved original
Honestly I hated how "Maleficent" villainized Stefan, took away the fairies and Phillip's heroics, killed Leah, and added NOTHING for Aurora. I don't mind Maleficent being sympathetic, but they shouldn't have made everyone else suffer for it.
Disney had the idea to take their animated features and build on them. Most of the early films were tweaked with new ideas. Cinderella, Christopher Robin, Malicifient, Pete's Dragon. Then they got complacent and lazy and started copying them beat for beat. That's why they fail.
Maleficent:
1. best actress
2. Actress loved the character
3. Actress loved the storyline
4. The movie answers all our questions why.
I was kinda skeptical before watching Maleficent, but I kinda like seeing her when aurora was born, and her taking care of her better than anybody else motivated by pure spite,
And then that "you're my fairy godmother" scene just melt my heart man
Honestly even if you do start wanting to see the new Snow White you’d be dismayed from how much the main actor and story direction down on the original, its like they’re embarrassed of their own source material

What I liked about Maleficent is that it didn’t claim to be a prequel or a remake. It was instead a reimagining of the story. A different adaptation of the story that existed for years. Sure it had some nods to the specific animated disney version but it was very clear that the story did not take place in the same timeline as sleeping beauty nor was it trying to tell that same story. It was it's own thing and different. And in my opinion, well done. Sure you may say it's 'the bad guy is the good guy' story but I think it did it well. And I liked the mother/daughter connection Maleficent had with Aurora which helped to heal her. It had passion, a new story to tell that made it worth being made, and was not just a cash grab.
once upon a time's snow white is so amazingly well done, they managed to make her this strong warrior, and inspiring leader they needed her to be for the their story. but they also kept values like hope, love, copassion and most of all family that are inate in her character.
Mirror mirror on the wall, why am I not so fair anymore?
The first Snow White worked because she demonstrated an inner beauty we could all aspire to. You know she would give her all to help someone in need just because she felt it was the right thing to do, contrasted with the selfish, vain, evil Queen. The second Snow White is the kind of person you could see easily stabbing you in the back in order to ensure she got what she thought what she deserved.
In other words, there is very little discernible difference between the new Snow White and the Queen, except the Queen is hot and Snow looks like one of those man-haters you are afraid to even look at because she'll start shrieking about something or other she doesn't like about you.
RZ will end up as a case study on how Studios can crumble based on not knowing their audience. RZ will be black listed if not already. Great cautionary tale for other actors. 😂😂
people also Hate Rachel Zegler for what she had said about Gal Gadot
Mirror mirror & Snow-white & the Huntsman were interesting takes on the fairytale that stayed to the character of Snow-white as a caring, a lovable compassionate princesse who overcomes beautiful but cruel queen.
I don't know. Did Disney tell Rachel Zegler to say the prince of the original film was a "stalker"? Or that new film not being about love is "wonderful?
Maleficent is ironically a mother's day movie
So true. Disney needs to do better. I love the original Sleeping Beauty and I couldn't wait for the live version and I wasn't disappointed. I didn't bother to look at the The Mermaid movie because I didn't really like the changes. Disney was something I always looked forward to and I guess I'm just old. I want them to get with the program and stop all of these changes. They are trying to destroy Disney.
I feel like “Maleficent” worked because the purpose of the movie was to answer the question “why did she do it?” it gives us a dive into Maleficent as a character, to help us understand her motivations. When they reached the point where they HAD to change the story to fit their narrative, they did it in interesting ways, that kept us guessing and wanting to know more about to these characters and lives. I cannot find a single purpose or interest for the new Snow White. They want her character to be renovated into this new powerhouse of what really feels like propaganda. But if you have to completely gut the character to accomplish that, then you’ve completely ruined the character, and the story in the process.
Was Maleficent (2014) perfect?
No.
The movie deviated a lot from the original 1959 animated film, in regards to its plot. And I’m personally mixed about how well the creators succeeded at doing so. But just like many others here, I actually think Aurora in this remake/retelling (in terms of her disposition), was well done. But that’s mostly due to Elle Fanning‘s performance. Her portrayal of Aurora is far more in line with the character in the 1959 animated movie, really tapping into the more playful and carefree demeanor of Aurora, who dreams of finding more outside of her world with her “three aunts” at the cottage. For 16 years, you could see how she’s really trying to make human interactions, despite feeling almost impossible. Even when she first meets Philip, who is the most normal human being to her, it’s really hard for her to connect, since most of her friends are animals or mythical beings. Despite the many changes to the plot of the original as well as several changes to characters that I feel like just didn’t work, it’s quite surprising to see how faithful and on-point the portrayal of Aurora was. It’s just a real shame that this portrayal had to be in a pretty mediocre retelling of the original story.
But regardless, this is something that I think really needs to be addressed more when doing any type of adaptation, continuation, or retelling of an established IP. I can’t tell you much media I have read, watched, or played, where the creators behind it, takes so much from the original source material, but don’t seem to understand why certain elements were established to begin with, ESPECIALLY IN REGARDS TO CHARACTER. Character is story. Even in fairytales, while the plot is driven by some magical conflict or evil power trying to take over entire kingdom. The story is about the main character’s journey and how will they reach their dreams or wants. Therefore, by shifting the characterization found in the original source, you literally suck out the entire story. You CANNOT change character, yet keep the same events of the plot, and expect the story to remain coherent.
And that’s the problem with a lot of these Disney live action adaptations.
The only thing I particularly don't like about Maleficent is the 3 fairies. Their ages are backwards, the green one (classic cartoon named her fauna) should be the oldest and calmest and blue one (named Merryweather in classic) should be the youngest.
But the story is very good, loves it!!
Also, we should add Snow White and the Huntsman into the topic too. It is very well made, with lots of new twists and it also foretells the story behind Ravenna the Evil Queen motives.
All hail Gal Godot. 🥰
if they cared about diversity so much they could’ve opted for casting an East Asian actress that would fit the descriptions of Snow White??
Sometimes a live action version of the movie isn't needed, this is one prime example of that
Probably because the Fanning never went out of her way to anger the potential audience.
I started hated this remake because the Snow white isn't more beautiful than the stepmother.
But now with all these i will bycott it.
I don’t think the “they were white in the original” matters. For Snow White specifically, It can still be a very light skinned actress of any ethnicity and it still sort of makes sense if you think of the name as a metaphor. As a light skinned Latina family and friends always remind me that I’m light skinned , and that’s fine. That’s just stating facts. It could be the same with her. “Snow White” not in a literal sense but in a metaphorical one. Race doesn’t REALLY have to play a part in why it won’t work.
The problem really relies in the utter disregard and disrespect that Disney has for its audience and it’s stories. There isn’t any nuanced to the storytelling or apparently anything salvageable that appears to improve, not in the filmmaking, or the story or the casting.
They want to make her have a new race/ethnicity, good, fine, as long as she can play the part and treats the character she is playing with respect. You want to hate on the story and character you are portraying, then go play something else and stop bothering the people that love them as they are.
Like white symbolizing being pure of heart or something
Modern audience doesn't exit. The systematic failure of every product targeting it proves it.
The best way to get Disney to stop making these regurgitated live actions is to stop going to the movies to watch them. Simple.
I loved Belle´s dress? Why do people say it was so bad just because she wasn´t wearing a corset?
1:22 i'm sorry but i know some women that still likes those old values and doesn't feel bothered by the original snow white or any of the classics, not everyone changed their values with time, most probably did but not everyone, some people still like the classics and their values of love, nurture, purity, elegance and care... it still align with MY values and even the values of my husband
I did not say at any point that these values are outdated, nor do I believe that
I just said the majority felt like that with the rise of feminism at that time
And if anything, people are coming back to these values because being nice, kind and loving is always respectable
@@scenesandstructures thanks for clarifying! that wasn't an attack against you
They should change the name to Evil Queen
and make her the hero
Well, I'm not sure if Maleficent did Aurora's character justice. She was just sort of there.
"weird, weird"....
If they want to keep Snow White true to the themes of the original, but still make her a PoC, do you have any idea how interesting a story of Chinese princess with skin as white as jade and lips as red as peonies or peach blossoms could be? There would even be similar cultural overlap and impact as to the themes of humility and nobility towards those with physical disabilities or outcasts in society.
They chose the best actress for aurora , she’s so fricking adorable and kind ,positive and she LOOKS like aurora
Disney has a diversity problem now it did not back in the 30s 40s and 50s
I quite liked Mirror Mirror, as it did portray the characters in a more real way and more true to the original, although i havent seen it in years. Ive also seen some other people using Snow white and the Huntsman as a good example of how to make Snow a strong character, make her into "the leader she was meant to be" and whatnot and give her something more than a love story, but also keeping her kind and keeping some of her original traits, that make her who she is.
When a young girl is being hunted by an assassin sent by a queen (a queen that abuses her and uses black magic) she needs the protection from 7 strong men. Yes she should clean the house (it’s that or sex). She needs to be useful and earn her keep. These guys are harboring a wanted girl.
Disney needs to examine the story in that way. She also desperately wants to be loved. That’s why she clings to the animals. So of course she would fall in love with a prince. She needs help. This is not a girl boss story.
The dress should have been toned down. It looks like a Halloween costume that takes me out of the story. And basically everything else in the story takes me out of the story.
If yall wanna see more Snow White stuff and evil queen backstory please watch “once upon a time” it’s amazing
I've talked about it in the ending section, I think one of the most beautiful retelling of snow white might be that story, not only great Snow white vs. evil queen story, but also a better Snow and Charming one.
@@scenesandstructures Regina is the GOAT (after season 1)
@trickmonster7905 yeah, there are some patterns in that show too, like how EVERY single villain needed a redemption arc
Maleficent didn't try to re make the cartoon, it created a whole different perspective of the same basic story.
"Worked" is a strong word but it wasn't the worst
rachel zegler as snow white doesn't really bother me, yeah maybe not the best decision since it seems like she hates the movie and but what im most irked at is why did they put her in the most hideous outfit ever??? who was in charge of the outfits? why did they make her dress literal neon yellow?? her dress part looks high waisted her torso look awkward, why is her hair so short? she looks like lord farquaad. and where tf did her headband go?? that was like the most iconic part of original snow whites outfit.... i dont even wanna talk about the evil queens outfit, why is it covered in sequence?? her glass stained crown that she has on looks tacky af... both of their outfits look like party city costumes, even cosplayers do a way better job with a lower budget..
I love how adults complain to a movie for kids.
I like the idea of live action and not making it 100% the same as the original. I would love to know more about the evil queen and her backstory because it would be interesting for er to have another ending instead of her falling off a cliff. However, I looove the original animation and it sucks to hear her talk about the original like that to make the live action more interesting/better.
Let’s be honest here…. Thousands of little girls are going to want to watch this movie and parents will take them. Because little kids don’t often care about politics. Yes we all find her very ungrateful and annoying but I don’t see it taking a hit.
I love the Villain origins story. It gives their reasons depth and an understanding.I feel like Once Upon A Time did a great job.
No one is really born evil…
Poor girl, the poor parenting and her personality had no idea of the magnitude of this destruction.
As an aspirational writer and easily bothered person, I hated the original Snow-White because of her total lack of common sense: seriously, who would open to a stranger wandering in woods? Also, the queen's plan makes no sense (becoming hideous to be the fairest of them all) and the prince is just a guy coming out of nowhere. I made four changes in the story and I thinks the result is pretty good.
Number 1: when the queen offers her the poisoned apple, Snow-White (who already survived four murder attempts) guess there's something wrong and she exchanges the apple with another. The queen dies while Snow-White falls into a coma because she touched the poison.
Number 2: the queen doesn't really hate Snow-White but her power-hungry father doesn't want anyone to threaten his power so he mistreats his daughter and forces her to kill Snow-White.
Number 3: the prince is actually the son of a witch living in the woods who helps the first queen giving birth to Snow-White. Thanks to the witch's servants, Snow-White found the dwarves' home and survived the queen's attempts to kill her.
Number 4: Snow-White is actually as white as snow because she has albinism. Therefore, nobody wants her to sit on the throne, not even her own father, so she will have to rely mostly on herself to survive and finally get the power.
There's a way to tell a feminist retelling of Snow White without sacrificing the essence of the story! Just focus more on the relationship between Snow and her Stepmother, the Prince could be a major subplot!
Wasn't the prince always a subplot? It was never the main focus from what I remember. It was a plot point to show how snow white's caring and loving nature, not only saved her but also helped her to have a pleasant life
@@user-zn6vi7yn3r Hell even in the Book the prince was not even a subplot, he just appeared at the end, passing by. He just exists so she could have her typical princess gets her prince ending. He was more of a price, a trophy for her kindness than anything else.
❤ Gal Gadot look gorgeous! Disney should also include diversity in 'Mulan' and negotiate with Rachel Zegler! ❤
Maleficent also gave us an entirely new story. We followed the "villian" and not the princess. Made everyone way more complex.
Cruella, in my opinion, did the same, and it was wonderful too.
The only things that really saved beauty and the beast was emma watson, and the new songs.
The others just- theyre bland, uninspired, and full unnecessary changes. Theyre hard to watch.
The biggest issue is that Disney put this beloved story in the hands of people who hate the original, and believe they can do better. By changing everything they can possibly get away with while still making a buck. The writers, the directors, down to the actress - they hate it.
Maleficent was a respectful reimagining of the original. Aurora's character was faithful to the original cartoon, and if anything, it went to show how truly good and lovable she was. Cinderella was the same. Her story was expanded upon, but her character was respected and left unchanged. Beauty and the Beast and Aladin were a little more iffy, but they were still faithful adaptations.
The Little Mermaid was a failure via trying to push too hard into feminism and not needing any man, even though Eric was literally returning the favor since she'd saved his life... but it wasn't that bad, and I can't blame someone too much for enjoying it.
Joking about cutting all Florian's scenes when that's what an audience would like expanded on the most, calling him a stalker, having Snow White order the ones saving her and giving her food and shelter to clean their house for her... this is a catastrophe.
It's so funny because disney many examples of successfully adopting an animated feature to live action with little to no changes. Beauty and the beast(2017) is one of them. Why could they adopt this original as well?
Snow White fail, but Maleficent still does not work. Maleficent is simply a better movie, but still deliberately damages the original's intention thanks to its closing statement by Aurora claiming that it is the "correct" version of Sleeping Beauty. a very nice way to pay homage to Walt Disney's original vision right? but this in an unpopular opinion, especially here 😂
At least Snow White is following the general premise of the movie it’s based on albeit in a horrible way
Maleficent tried to make it look like one of Disney’s most recognizable villains ever was the victim
Aside from Disney a lot of studios are trying to re write history like in the Bridgertons they don't focus on the period but trying to make it an alternate reality.
The new SW makes a point that a princess shouldn't need saving by a prince. Well, actually, whats so wrong with that? I think its great!
