The 3 books that changed my life and I would recommend them to anyone 1. Atomic Habits by James Clear ( great tips and tricks to staying consistent and productive) 2. Man's Search For Meaning by Victor Frenkel (really makes you appreciate freedom and being alive in general) 3. The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge (It's about looking at the big picture and not stressing over the small stuff)
I also kinda approach some of these "scientific" self-help books with a bit of skepticism. I love science and empirical research, but in the self-help category it can sometimes feel like they're just trying to appeal to something to give their ideas more weight, even when the science isn't actually that rigorous. And then people look over the lack of rigor because they like what the book has to say. I feel like this can lead some people to following sometimes-not-so-good advice with too much confidence, in part because they have the impression that something is scientifically backed.
Re: Why We Sleep. I did finish it two years ago or so and while I like the "Go to sleep, it's good for you" message it ended up saying that any and all problems in your life are caused by lack of sleep, from anxiety, to weight, to cancer. It felt fear-mongering and later I read that other scientists found some serious data problems in the first chapter. Sleep is good, yes, and I'm more careful about sleeping well now, but this book is not.
I'm amazed how the evidence of data manipulation doesn't seem to have made a dent in Walker's sleep expert credentials. He makes so many absurd and exaggerated claims, then gets proven to be a fraud and yet people keep quoting his book and requesting him for interviews.
All I can say is WOW. This was so helpful. You covered some books I've read, some I've heard of, some I will now read thanks to your review, and some that I know to skip. Many thanks!

Thank you so much for this list! I once tried to get into reading but I ended up choosing a bad book and got turned off from reading books. I started Atomic Habits and I don’t even wanna put it down. I’m trying my best not to take TOO MANY notes. I’ve already gained some life changing insights on why I haven’t been able to succeed in certain things. Every few pages is giving me a breakthrough in my thinking. THANKS
(personal note to self) 13 things mentally strong people don't do tao of seneca atlas of the heart, brene brown simple path to wealth never split the difference man's search for meaning, viktor e frankl the defining decade, meg jay thousand years, donald milller thinking in bets, annie duke 4 disciplines of execution tidying up, marie kondo
This idea of thinking about the value of your time is great, especially for those of us who have transitioned over the years from never enough money to never enough time!
I don't usually comment on videos but I want to say I really enjoyed this. Great video, great details, great pacing, very entertaining and informative. Thank you, Tina.
I found your channel last week and kept checking your videos whenever i had free time. I love your videos. This video is one of my favorites because you can hear and see your enthusiasm and passion to gather and share knowledge. Thank you for changing my life and giving me new things to think of. ❤️
Thanks for this summary Tina, very useful, got me interested in a few but also thankful I haven't read others? Just becoming more sensitive (not in sentimental, but total way) and aware and being able (freeing up; self-awareness, non-attachment) to respond (appropriately) will guide you.
My first book in the self-help space was Grit too! It was pretty motivating with plenty of great stories and sent me down the rabbit-hole of self-improvement/discipline. 4.5/5 from me
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is extremly underrated. It is a genious book about the understanding of "quality". It is not easy to get into it, because the thinking and the interpretation of words differs a lot from day to day thinking. It felt like very deep trip into a genius mind.
I found Mastery to be life changing only after I applied it to the last 20ish years of my life (I'm a lil bit older than you). My childhood, same as you, everything and all things but when thinking about my working life I realised I was always drawn to data and analytics regardless of the role or industry which put me on my Data science journey!
Thanks for the video Tina! One idea for a new video ( well actually 2 ideas) would be to dive in how you manage to read loads of books, having all your obligations, and how you go about taking notes efficiently ( I really struggle on this one).
Read Building a second brain, it might help you with that. Now, in order to read a bunch of books you have to start by reading. Start with a couple pages a day, it might not sound like much but believe me it works.
The mountain is you is one of my personal favourites. It is repetitive sometimes but repetition is important for your brain to remember the information. It is written is a very kind way as well, even though sometimes it’s a tough love. 2/5 is far too little for it
I generally don't like self-help books. As an Aspie, they often don't speak to me. But some of them can be useful, especially when they help me understand NT brains.
Self help books should be a 4 page summary and some flow charts: you have this, do this, did it work? Goto A, else, goto B. Most of these books are just fluff.
i would suggest the book "Body Mind Spirit - A Complete Guide To Unlocking Your Full Potential" What sets this book apart is its balanced perspective on holistic development. It seamlessly combines concepts from the realms of body, mind, and spirit, offering a comprehensive guide for those seeking a well-rounded transformation. The author's clear and concise writing style ensures that even complex ideas are accessible to readers of varying backgrounds.
Tina, you should totally make a digital form and have your audience vote what they recommend based on your input and their experience. This would selfishly help me pick 1 book out all the ones you went over cause I am not a passionate reader haha.
Excellent video! Thank you so much for making it. The number of books is impressive and your pacing made it possible to get through it all. Will definitely be adding some to my reading list.
This is so great, thank you!! Already have read some of the books you've recommended before, they were awesome! Can't wait to intorduce some new stuff to my life
Absolutely LOVED this video. You were concise and pretty accurate. I've read like 15 from your list and from those, I can say you have similar opinions to mine. One book I would like to add is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert because that's a book which changed my life! It's about creative living and how you can genuinely feel happy being an artist. So, if you're an artist of any kind (writer, actor, musician, dance...any art!), Big Magic is a must read!
I listened to the full audiobook why we sleep. I agree that it was quite boring but I read it due to quite severe issues with my own sleep. Ironically following some of the advice actually made it even harder for me to sleep while some helped. There is some good stuff in there, but I think it would make more sense to find a distilled version of the book because it is simply too boring in its current state.
Note for self: 13 things mentally strong people don't do (adding to-read) Quiet (read, remember nothing) The Anthropocene Reviewed (love John green, to-read) The Body Keeps the score (have been reading off-and-on, very heavy, will finish) Never Split the Difference (read, might need to re-read) The Life Changing Manga (read the regular version & loved it, why no revisit with the manga)
Hey, Tina! Another Great video! Definitely wrote down at least 10 books I'm gonna read apart from the ones I've already read because of your advice! and which changed my life You should read WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR. (philosophy, storytelling, human values, happiness). ;)
It's funny that you feel asleep to why we sleep because the author is probably glad that it helped you sleep. I am slowly working through it and it helps to read it out-loud
Also thanks for reviewing Jay shetty's book because I was wondering whether to add it to my reading list. I listened to a lot of his calm sessions so it's good to know that it's a lot of fluff.
I got a different message from Robert Greene's Mastery. It was more about exploring your field in your twenties. There are RUclips videos of him explaining this at Google, Oxford or Cambridge.
what you relate to depends where you're starting from, doesn't it? i relate to david goggins because we had similar childhoods, but i wouldn't recommend him to most people i would rule out books from people who are unhappy and trying to therapise themselves, like jordan peterson. contrarily, if you're emotionally experienced then buddhism works well, and most people misinterpret that as a religion
Very honest and good video, but i gotta disagree with "Why We Sleep" I thought it was filled with exciting facts about sleep and wake up calls with how much we should consider the importance of our sleep :)
Thank you for the review! Very helpful. Only one correction. David and Goliath were real people. David was a king of Israel and before he was chosen to be the king, he asked to be sent to fight this giant - Goliath. He was huge and no on could take him on and kill - tough cookie. He was conquering nations and everyone was terrified of him. David didn't rely on his own strength but called upon the name God in his hour of need and God delivered Israel from Goliath that day through David. Also, this is not a myth but a historical fact.
The Millionaire Fastlane is the best book ever written! It totally changed my view of work and help me stop selling my time for money! Strongly recommend"!
I read 3 of Robert Greene's books, but I don't know what he's going on about with _Mastery_ . When I was a child, I was interested in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but I don't see how that is at all relevant to any aspect of my adult life.
When people say this I can't help thinking they got what they needed. That's the point. Get the help you need then move on with your life. If you're stuck reading one after another but not making progress in your life then you're doing it wrong. Here's a short video about that ruclips.net/video/hQB3viVFhPA/видео.html&ab_channel=MarkManson
Due to some reason had to spend a lot of time on non career related serious issues. Feeling so burnt out,insecure/imposter syndrome and demotivated; dont know what to do. Hope someone can drop some advice.
The more books I read (currently at 254), the more reluctant I feel to rate them. Overall, it's just a matter of personal perspective, and there are so many personal biases that I don't believe we're able to take all of them into account. The same book, read at different times in our lives, might evoke completely different feelings. Regarding 'How To Not Die Alone,' it doesn't sound like a good idea to pursue dating without chemistry. If you don't feel anything, no amount of science alone will make you happy. I haven't read it yet, although it has been on my shelf for some time. But first, I need to read '4 Disciplines of Execution' because that's more important to me right now. But you won't read this comment anyway, so I guess I'm just spending time talking to myself 🤣.
Just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago. You seem like a cool knowledgeable person on this topic. So im wondering if you can help me with a question i have. So I am a recent graduate in Computer Science and want to instead go into Data Science industry instead of the traditional Software Developer/ Software Engineer career. So as someone like me who eventually one day wants to work in data science industry, is there an entry level job role that one can apply as a starting point and just get promoted/ level up to a data science in time rather than just trying to apply for a data science position from the get go? I dont mind starting at the bottom and working my way up the ladder. If anyone else have any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it?

The 3 books that changed my life and I would recommend them to anyone
1. Atomic Habits by James Clear ( great tips and tricks to staying consistent and productive)
2. Man's Search For Meaning by Victor Frenkel (really makes you appreciate freedom and being alive in general)
3. The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge (It's about looking at the big picture and not stressing over the small stuff)
Can’t Hurt Me - David Goggins
48 Laws of Power - Robert Greene
12 Rules for Life - Jordan Peterson
Antozent- they are selling around 150 self help books for the price of one (you’re welcome)
So True 👍🏻
Or sometimes they cite really old ones or they make correlation from several scientifically-backed research themselves
You should approach all things in life with a little skepticism.

2/5 is far too little for it
I liked that book too and I agree, it's really good at least for me.
Great summary! Very insightful and honest. I was on the fence about checking out a couple and some weren't even on my radar. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, this was helpful. I read a lot of the books. However, I like the suggestions for the books I was thinking about.
Thanks. Saved me a lot of time.
Thanks for the video and book recommendations!
Thanks for making the video.
"The One Thing" review was hilarious. Thanks Tina
Didn't even realize the lighting change until it was mentioned LOL great video :)
For anyone who googled, „OG book”, OG stands for Original Gangster. OG is an internet slang initialism used to describe an extraordinary person.
Thank you for this video and your dedication and hard work towards this craft (making abundantly helpful videos) is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Omg I didn't notice it was getting darker! Big thumbs up for the compiling such big list!
really good summary for 64 books. Good vibes from Peru.
Note for self:
13 things mentally strong people don't do (adding to-read)
Quiet (read, remember nothing)
The Anthropocene Reviewed (love John green, to-read)
The Body Keeps the score (have been reading off-and-on, very heavy, will finish)
Never Split the Difference (read, might need to re-read)
The Life Changing Manga (read the regular version & loved it, why no revisit with the manga)
Thank you
that anxiety book narrator makes me even more anxious and somewhat angry 😂
i have to stop here to give you a big thank for your time and effort in making this video
Super fun video! Thanks!
Ok. Pen and paper thank you tina.
If you can read in Spanish I recommend you "Vive con propósito" by Noah J. Brown. It's a classic and great book of self-help. It a top ten.
4:36 OMG so YOU were that infamous asian girl who was always late to the lecture!!! Lol you are a legend
So much good content! Let me save that video so I can come back to it later :)
Amazing work.
Excellent video!
Hey, Tina!
Another Great video!
Definitely wrote down at least 10 books I'm gonna read apart from the ones I've already read because of your advice! and which changed my life
You should read WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR.
I listened to a lot of his calm sessions so it's good to know that it's a lot of fluff.
thank you!!! lotta recycled obvious stuff out there but have to say the good one convince you to do the advice even if its old & obvious :)
❤❤❤ Looking so beautiful as usual.
Thanks for making videos to guide us
Atomic habits and Attached were the most helpful books
just checked out all your five star recommendations - thank you!
That was a good review! Thanks!
I got a different message from Robert Greene's Mastery. It was more about exploring your field in your twenties. There are RUclips videos of him explaining this at Google, Oxford or Cambridge.
This was great honestly thanks
atlas of the heart is amazing 4.5/5 (for me)!
what you relate to depends where you're starting from, doesn't it? i relate to david goggins because we had similar childhoods, but i wouldn't recommend him to most people
i would rule out books from people who are unhappy and trying to therapise themselves, like jordan peterson. contrarily, if you're emotionally experienced then buddhism works well, and most people misinterpret that as a religion
Excellent video. Thanks
I really like your list, made me consider alot of them.
Thank you so much ❣️ I was wondering which book to read you sorted it out and made easy
Thanks for sharing ! absolutely useful video
Love this review! So insightful and succinct. I’ve got a long list of TBR. This would be great as a continued series and/or by genre :)
The Millionaire Fastlane is the best book ever written! It totally changed my view of work and help me stop selling my time for money! Strongly recommend"!
Really good video!
Did you read the books or did u listen to the audiobooks? Are audiobooks just as good as reading?
I read 3 of Robert Greene's books, but I don't know what he's going on about with _Mastery_ . When I was a child, I was interested in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but I don't see how that is at all relevant to any aspect of my adult life.
LOL exactly what I thought as well - I was interested in dinosaurs and pokemon. I'm pretty sure archaeology is not for me though
LOL. Like many things it applies to some but not all.
My life changed for the better when I stopped reading self-help books and escaped the self-help trap.
When people say this I can't help thinking they got what they needed. That's the point. Get the help you need then move on with your life. If you're stuck reading one after another but not making progress in your life then you're doing it wrong. Here's a short video about that ruclips.net/video/hQB3viVFhPA/видео.html&ab_channel=MarkManson
On my way to read thinking in bets 🤠
How do you structure your book learnings?
Would be awesome to learn more about it
All are good books .But I like the 12 rules of life. Must read.
You're awesome, keep it up!
Hey Tina, did you read any book from Robert Green, "POWER" for example, if you did, do you suggest?
Love your content ❤
wow. thank you.
smash or pass - love it 🤣
“101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think” by Brianna Wiest- highly highly recommended. 😊🤗❤️
Outrageously useful video Tina. A++.
